baseball sucks who cares
7/13/2010 9:57:12 AM
^ me, because i'll have to hear about it nonstop for the rest of the season
7/13/2010 9:58:28 AM
what an asshole, now when i watch the all-star game they're going to talk about him the whole fucking time. probably try to give him some gay ass on field tribute too. fucker couldn't have waited til tomorrow?
7/13/2010 10:01:19 AM
Fuck off douchebags, take it to chit chat. One of the best professional team owners of all time. RIP George.
7/13/2010 10:05:42 AM
agreed. great owner. takes a lot to be able to throw unlimited funds at your team's deficiencies.
7/13/2010 10:07:45 AM
While I hate the Yankees and their spend to win strategy, Steinbrenner was good for baseball and every fan wishes their owner would do what Steinbrenner did (i.e. do whatever it takes to win).
7/13/2010 10:09:17 AM
^^ yea give me a team with no limit on how much i can pay players and I can win world series too
7/13/2010 10:09:40 AM
wonder what they'll do tonight at the all star game...i've always liked him but yey i hate yankees, but you can't deny this success :
7/13/2010 10:10:47 AM
yeah all the hate for Steinbrenner needs to go elsewhere. He might have come across as a jerk, but by all accounts he was quite the philanthropist and would do anything to help his team succeedRIP "The Boss"
7/13/2010 10:16:10 AM
What is wrong with you morons? Are you really shitting on a RIP thread? I thought Skip Caray was a douche to the highest degree but I didn't shit all over his RIP posts...[Edited on July 13, 2010 at 10:17 AM. Reason : if you feel the need to troll about this, move to the CC thread.]
7/13/2010 10:17:03 AM
my thread was first
7/13/2010 10:25:32 AM
I've seen trolling before and even enjoyed reading some of it, but this is a tad too soon and too far. All because the guy spent too much money on his baseball team, big fuckin deal
7/13/2010 10:25:53 AM
He absolutely lived for winning. You cannot deny that. Nothing mattered as long as the Yanks won. Money was second to winning for the Boss. Every sports fan would kill to have an owner like Georgie run their team. He did whatever it took to build a winner.RIP Boss

And he was temporarily banned from baseball for trying to dig up dirt on Dave Winfield and this pretty much directly led to the dynasty of the late 90's... Most of us, especially the Yankees fans, know this...But I see no need to troll people about someone who has recently died. You certainly don't have to respect him, pay your respects to him or praise him in any way but the trolling is just low-brow...As a Mets fan, the team whom he hated more than any team in baseball, I have nothing but respect for what the team did under his ownership. He was a shrewd businessman above all.[Edited on July 13, 2010 at 10:31 AM. Reason : x]
7/13/2010 10:31:01 AM
I hate the Yankees, but I respected Steinbrenner. that's all I have to add to this thread
7/13/2010 10:31:11 AM
are you really saying good riddance to Steinbrenner because of Watergate tie ins? maybe its time to let that shit go.
7/13/2010 10:32:20 AM
His sons are going to be more of a monster than he ever was. He earned his fortune and worked his way up. His sons were born into it and have a sense of entitlement. The worst is yet to come.
7/13/2010 10:35:42 AM
WHY WOULD GEORGE STEAL FROM THE YANKEES?
7/13/2010 10:46:41 AM
Let's see what I got today. Ham and cheese again. And she forgot the fancy mustard. I love that fancy mustard. You could put that fancy mustard on a shoe and it would taste pretty good to me
7/13/2010 10:51:31 AM
RIP George

Never liked the guy, thought he was a bit of a jerk, but he did whatever it took to win and was the type of owner you want to have for your team. You know that it had to come sometime though, he hasn't been near as prominent out in public as he used to be.
7/13/2010 11:43:34 AM
^^ ahahahahahahaha
7/13/2010 11:51:59 AM
DONT TROLL ABOUT THINGS THAT AFFECT ME DIRECTLY
7/13/2010 12:09:25 PM
One too many calzones for lunch?
7/13/2010 2:25:21 PM
Even if you don't like the guy he will be missed one way or another. I didn't like the Yankees at all but he was a good villain to have in baseball for all of us who like teams with owners who don't spend that kind of money. RIP.
7/13/2010 4:20:17 PM
its always weird to me to hear Andy Petite and his redneck as shit voice... just doesnt fit him
7/13/2010 4:27:18 PM
Joe Torre sounding pretty pumped about Steinbrenner dying
7/13/2010 6:40:40 PM
I hate the Yankeesbut baseball needed Steinbrenner for the last 30 years.
7/13/2010 6:48:49 PM
i surprised there isnt a thread for this death from each teams perspective

2009 - Rockies, Cardinals and Twins were in the bottom half in payroll and made the playoffs.2008 - Rays and Brewers were in the bottom half and made the playoffs.2007 - Cleveland, Arizona and Colorado were all in the bottom third in payroll and made the playoffs.2006 - Minnesota, Oakland and San Diego were all in the bottom half in payroll and made the playoffs.Consistently, year after year, small market teams not only compete but make the playoffs at a high rate.
7/14/2010 2:30:01 PM
To be fair, only Minnesota and Colorado appear twice on that list, and neither one in back to back yearsThe point being, its much harder to form a CONSISTENT winning team with limited funds...when your margin of error is smaller, teams that make the playoffs barely make it, by a game or two, so when they regress to the mean to the next year, they'll find themselves out of the postseason. They don't have that cushion of not playing their best and still winning 95 games like the Yankees or Sox.[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 2:37 PM. Reason : x]
7/14/2010 2:36:12 PM
At the same time, not a one of those 11 teams won it all and only Tampa and Colorado advanced to the W.S.[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 2:38 PM. Reason : ^Pretty much]
7/14/2010 2:37:03 PM
Only the Yankees really have the money to cover up their mistakes. Even the Mets and Red Sox can't do that which is why they adhere to budgets relatively close to their peers in the league. And in the last decade the Marlins and Diamondbacks have won titles, and when the White Sox won they were 14th in payroll. All I'm saying is that it's possible. Fans of teams like the Royals and Pirates want to bitch and whine but the fact is that they are hampered by poor decisions more than anything else. The A's, until recently, were in it nearly every single year. As have been the Twins.** and everyone knows that winning in the playoffs takes a fair degree of luck.[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 2:43 PM. Reason : x]
