I ran across this guy a while back performing on Later. . .with Jools Holland. I like his music. "Never Go West"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYRggv-OGSI"Started Out with Nothing"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=113FzU6Uf9U "Diddley Bo"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4GNIAWbUNg

^ Yeah, but you had to get a little dig in, didn't you. FTR, the Diddley Bo is a makeshift instrument that Seasick Steve plays. And considering that the Diddley Bo is nothing more than a 2x4 with a broom wire attached to it, I'd say that Seasick Steve makes pretty damned good use of it and of his other homemade instruments. I mean, the songs are good and they got him on international TV. In any event, for all those here with minds to think for themselves and ignore the self-elected "music/literature/film" critics, just listen to these songs: "Walking Man"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC3rzgprN4w"Dog House Boogie"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNoPNC3ebYQ

^ Relatively speaking, the instrument is, in fact, not all that common. Perhaps you could list for us all the examples of it on recording in recent decades. And I'll wager that there are many here who have never heard of or seen the instrument before watching these videos--but they probably won't admit it. In any event, it doesn't really matter. It seems that your intent is to attempt to wreck or ignore any thread I post here.

It's "diddley bow", fwiw.I can't wait 'til this hooksaw fella discovers the cigar box guitar or the washtub bass.

^ Yes, it's good to see that you have mastered Wikipedia. Seasick Steve calls it a "Diddley Bo," as in the title of his song:http://www.amazon.com/Man-Another-Time-Seasick-Steve/dp/B000CCFFLUBut thanks for trying.

nothing says "master of folk music etymology" like the guy who produced "talking shit about a pretty sunset"
7/12/2010 4:28:02 AM
Should I be flattered that you would think I would need to go to wikipedia to know that?I didn't know what a hurdy gurdy was either, I promise. As for the actual content of the thread, re: the dude's music. I give a solid 5.5/10, but I'm feeling generous.
