Anyone who has taken this course before, I know they teach you on stance, delivery, etc. but do you know if they actually grade you on your stance, or delivery is correct, etc. or they only grade you on your score in games and tests? Basically are you allowed to bowl your own way?

I took it with Kidd. Your grade was based on the final, which consisted of a written section (multiple choice), and a game IIRC.

So they don't care how your style of bowling is? If you are not in the proper form, etc. you will not be docked ?

they're all like this
i think the exams are standardized between sections

we had a written exam and bowled 5 games, our final grade was based on the exam score and the average of the 5 games... that's it.

Eh the guy I had was stricter, he had a different syllabus and everything, and our bowling average over like the second half of the class had to be like 10 pins higher than the other coaches for the equivalent grade, I barely passed the damn class, took the fun out of it.

I took that class Fall '01. It's where I found out what was happening on Sept. 11. I got to class later than usual that day, and no one was bowling because everyone was crowded around a T.V.

True story! (But I don't think 9/11 was on the final exam. Just a short written exam and our average over a few games like someone else said. I think I took the class with Kidd, but that's been a while.)

I took it with Derue (sp?)... Our only grades were a written final and a grade given to us based on our scoring average. He didn't really care about our technique as long as we knocked the pins down. Definitely take it for credit only... Even though I did well enough to get an A, it took all the pressure off.

^^ Only take it for a grade if you are damn good and pretty confident in yourself.

Take it with Kidd, get an easy A. He teaches you the "proper" way to bowl and dislikes seeing people do the curve balls, but I don't think he'll take off your grade unless you are doing it consistently. He likes people to do it his way.

I just don't want to take it for credit and then end up somehow getting an A and then only get an S for it

it's a PE. 1 hr isn't going to change your GPA one way or the other by the time you graduate. Just take it for credit and don't worry about your grade. I never had a a PE where you wouldn't get a S if you just showed up for every class and participated.

I switched it to credit and it was probably a good idea and since PE is allowed to be taken as credit only, I might as well take advantage of it. They are expecting you to not be able to get an A in PE classes.

Exactly who expects that?

I took three PE classes (softball, bowling and fitness walking) and made an A in all of them.

ok, to the guy who said you can pretty much get an S if you go to every class, if you go to every class but still get the lowest score possible on the physical skills portion, can you still pass?

I may end up getting a U in the class, right now from practicing in class my average will get me the lowest amount of points possible which is 42 out of 70. I would need to get 28 out of 30 points on the final exam in order to get the S (70). What is the final exam like? does anyone remember the kinds of questions asked in the past? thanks.

If you fail, you are fucking pathetic. I was the worst bowler in class by a fucking mile and Kidd still passed me. Just go to class, have fun, and chill the fuck out.

unfortunately the teacher I have is very serious about grade and is not afraid to fail people. For example he even takes -2 points off your grade for each day you do not show up, I have shown up for every class so far so that won't be a problem but but next week is the beginning of the physical skills testing. I was going to take it with Kidd in the fall but it does not work well for my schedule.

Anyone else think it is rediculous how performance is such a big part of the grade? all PE classes need to have at least a participation grade worth at least 30 percent. As long as you show up and pay attention/participate in class you get full points on that section.

I think overall performance is bogus if it's not compared to your original skillset. But... it never works like that.

a lot of people apparently if you look at the distributions. they probably dont know they can take it for credit only or may not know how to change the grading method

... or they're not physically awkward and actually capable of making an A in the class.

The instructor I had, Kidd, looks just like Jim Mora http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwq7BYOnDrM

I remember you get extra credit for bowling over a 200, or beating his score. Rest is based off average. There was also a tournament at the end of class for extra points, but all the scrubs got handicaps. I'd say its an easy A if you are decent at bowling.

^ Yeah found out today that there will be a big curve if your avg is not very good, so I think I will be able to pass.

took this class online, practiced several times a week at Pleasant Valley (synthetic wood) had my own ball, shoes, etc. played with friends all the time and averaged 180...

went to Western Lanes on test day and found out that the lanes were hardwood...couldn't break 105 in 3 sets

Only C that I ever made in college

The lanes are old and worn out. The place is garbage too. No wonder they never gets any business.

They need to eventually build a bowling alley inside the university. A lot of other schools have one.
