Hello,Although decent when it comes to networking concepts, it has been a while since I've done anything with serious with it. I do remember quite a bit, at least I thought so. A friend of mine today threw a question my way that left me...umm...feeling dumb. The question was, "give me a c-block of IP addresses"Although the question seemed pretty easy to anyone who understands networking, struggled.....to make things worse, I couldn't find a damned thing explaining it. So, of course, I turned to TWW for help.Any thoughts, fellas?

google class C subnet. i'm assuming that's what he meanty=staticx=not staticy.x.x.x = Class A, /8 subnety.y.x.x = Class B /16 subnety.y.y.x = Class C /24 subnetbasically.[Edited on June 27, 2010 at 9:28 PM. Reason : asdf]

Although I understand what you typed, he rejected my explanation.Class C which uses the first three octets as the network ID (static) with the last octet being the host ID. He rejected my response.sigh...anyone wants to take a jab at it?

why did he reject your response, exactly?

He said my answer is incorrect...refused to give explanation. I have to believe him since he has a Masters in Networking and works for Cisco.I know there are plenty of networking experts on here, someone offer an explanation!!!!

Only certain combinations of addresses are legitimate "C-block" addresses:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classful_networkBitwise:Class C192. 0. 0. 0 = 11000000.00000000.00000000.00000000223.255.255.255 = 11011111.11111111.11111111.11111111 110nnnnn.nnnnnnnn.nnnnnnnn.HHHHHHHHso, 192.0.0.0 through 223.255.255.0 class C's are all legitimateThis does not include the private range of 192.168.0.0 through 192.168.255.0[Edited on June 27, 2010 at 10:02 PM.
