CGI doesn't count. Choices:The Little Mermaid (1989)The Rescuers Down Under (1990)Beauty and the Beast (1991)Aladdin (1992)The Lion King (1994)Pocahontas (1995)The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)Hercules (1997) Mulan (1998)Tarzan (1999)I gotta go with Aladdin first, then Lion King. What brought this up was me stumbling across a critic saying that Beauty and the Beast was the best of that era, because Beauty wasn't the generic damsel in distress type. Lame.

Aladdin.Little Mermaid had the best music.

Little Mermaid counts in that era, because it was the first in the resurgence of Disney back to making awesome movies.I mean, compare the movies from Little Mermaid on to the ones from the previous 15 yearshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Disney_theatrical_animated_features[Edited on June 21, 2010 at 3:33 AM. The Lion King and TarzanThe Lion King was overall the best imo. Everything about it was done very well. It's one of the best movies of the 90's imo, not just animation. None of the other disney animated movies break into those ranks for meI really liked Tarzan personally. It had a little different style to it and they did some really cool stuff with it animation-wise (check out Deep Canvas).Deep Canvas clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZA6nitNeYwthere have been some old (and newer) disney pencil tests posted here, if anyone's interested:http://www.penciltestdepot.com/[Edited on June 21, 2010 at 5:55 AM. Aladdin

#1. Lion King#2. AladdinThose 2 rankings with animated movies are pretty much locked in for me. Even with the CGI, those 2 are pretty much locks for the top 2 spots. But after those two Beauty and the Beast would be pretty high on the list of animated 90s ones, probably competing for the #3 spot with The Little Mermaid.

You are crazy out of your head on drugs if you think The Lion King is better than Aladdin.

1 The Lion King2 AladdinThose are the only two non-cg disney movies I'd stop to watch if I was flipping through channels - with the exception of The Emperor's New Groove (2000) and Pocahontas (cuz she's hot).

lion king sucks. the music blows balls and the characters are annoying. hakuna matata is one of the gayest things i've seen in a disney movie.1. aladdin2. little mermaid3. beauty and the beast

I don't understand the Beauty and the Beast nutswingers. I mean yeah Beauty likes the Beast because he has a gentle side (as opposed to him being just another "hot prince charming") but other than that difference it's just kind of lame.

The Great Mouse Detective, Jungle Book, and Robin Hood are better than any of the 90s movies (including Aladdin and Lion King).

1. The Lion King2. Aladdin- More emotional story (I don't get misty-eyed at any point in Aladdin, but show me the scene where Mufasa is laying there dead and Simba is trying to wake him up...)- Aladdin has some great songs, but Lion King has a better soundtrack overall.- I hate to use it as a positive, but Lion King has better voices/star power. Robin Williams and Gilber Godfried are great, but they can't touch the all-star cast of Lion King. James Earl Jones, Matthew Broderick, Rowan Atkinson, Cheech Marin, JTT, Nathan Lane. Hell, I just found out that Rafiki was voiced by Benson! (Robert Guillaume) And you can't tell me that Jeremy Irons isn't a perfect villain.

Ferngully is such a horrible fucking movie, I wanted to strangle robin williams' bat character so bad when I was a kid.

Looks like a fairly weak decade. I don't understand the infatuation most people have with Little Mermaid and BatB. Not a big Robin Williams fan.Guess I'll go with Lion King or Mulan.
6/21/2010 10:03:41 PM
Other than The Little Mermaid, all of these feel really dated to me...something about the "all-star" casts and the crossover radio hits makes them seem more like relics of a specific time than Disney's earlier stuff.
