what kind of bored ass cop tries to stop people from jaywalking?I'm really surprised those chicks didn't get tased. Chick shoulda just screamed RAPE!!!!Im also suprised he didnt draw his gun. I bet most Seattle cops have never been surrounded by that many black people.[Edited on June 16, 2010 at 11:56 AM. Reason : .]

it was stupid and complete douchebaggery to try to stop someone for jaywalking, of all thingsthat said, she DID break the law and stopping her IS within the scope of his job as a cop...she got uppity because she could, her friend grabbed the cop's arm, and the cop hauled off and punched hershould he have punched her? of course not...should the one girl have caused a problem when he made her aware that she was breaking the law, and should the second girl have grabbed the cop? of course notcops power-trip and some people look for excuses to throw a fit
6/16/2010 12:08:31 PM
I laughed my ass off when I saw that on TV at the bar last night, lol.
6/16/2010 12:17:31 PM
Trying to bust some girls for jaywalking is pretty pathetic, but they started being bitches right away. I think I'm more surprised by the lack of force - in the sense that if it were a guy he was trying to cuff, there wouldn't have been so much of a struggle. I imagine the cop probably would have slammed a guy around a little more. The officer knew he had a crowd and didn't seem to want to hurt the girl. But when her friend came over and started to get in the middle of it all he had to do something- punching her in the face probably wasn't it. Tazing them would have been more fun. ]
6/16/2010 12:18:31 PM
while i agree that trying to ticket them for jaywalking is a little extreme, that is not what they ended up being arrested for. Clearly these two women were obstructing the officer from doing his job, would not listen to reason, and then became aggressive. At this point the jaywalking issue doesn't matter one bit. I see nothing wrong with what he did. But the guy should have been able to subdue the other girl pretty easily, he really let himself get pushed around too long.]
6/16/2010 12:24:02 PM
you also have to realize that in NYC, jaywalking is considered more serious of a crime than assault, murder, or rape.
6/16/2010 12:26:36 PM
^ what about in seattle, where this happened?
6/16/2010 12:30:46 PM
In what bizarre world do we live in where people expect to shove a police officer repeatedly and get away with it?
6/16/2010 12:47:42 PM
Yeah, it was unfortunate but he needed to do something in this situation. He should've used more force on the girl in the black shirt, guy needs to go back to training and learn how to subdue subjects.
6/16/2010 12:47:43 PM
Why blame the cop when he is just enforcing the law which is his job? If we think the law is ridiculous, then we should blame the lawmakers not the enforcer.
6/16/2010 12:51:48 PM
perhaps the girls were standing in the road as if they owned it i like the collective *oooh* at the punch
6/16/2010 12:54:26 PM
6/16/2010 12:57:16 PM
Well, you just have to make it obvious, that's all.If I'm standing there holding my cellphone, it should be obvious.

Perhaps they have never heard of the "plain view doctrine."
6/16/2010 1:27:21 PM
That was just a really awkward video. Two things are obvious from watching it:1) Those people escalated that situation into what it ultimately led to. Sure, the cop was probably being a dick for attempting to write a jaywalking ticket, but it probably never would have gotten to that point if those people hadn't been so ridiculous.2) That cop SUCKED at subduing people. He couldn't put that girl in cuffs if his life depended on it. He was completely out of control of that whole situation. Had he been a little better at his job, then there wouldn't have been an opportunity for all of that to happen. And he definitely shouldn't have punched that girl. What a fucking idiot. He should have used some force on her, but that punch was ridiculous.Dumb cops and stupid people ITVideo.
6/16/2010 1:40:34 PM
im resisting the urge to reply here because ive already been accused of being racist, but look at the actors involved. its just a matter of time before quanell x or jessie jackson or any of those types gets involved, because a 'white' cop punched a 'black' girl.
6/16/2010 1:41:07 PM
The black guys in the back were acting pretty well and helped the cop out with getting the pink girl (punch girl) out of the picture.

haha I read ^^ didn't know what the fuck he was talking about, watched the video, and came back to post ^
6/16/2010 2:25:19 PM
i punch women for cutting my sandwich the wrong way...this is nothing special
6/16/2010 2:25:26 PM
The only issue I see here is that this cop has trouble controlling/cuffing a single female. That crowd could have gotten ugly quick and messing around for several minutes after he threw that punch was a dumb move on his part. He needs some training, a partner, and to grow a pair. Until then, he's not really cut out for what he is doing.
6/16/2010 2:32:18 PM
In NC, if someone is hurt by someone else's negligence, they can't recover any damages. Say for instance a driver who is speeding hits a pedestrian who is jaywalking. Because that person was jaywalking, they can't recover damages from the driver or his insurance, even if he was doing 150mph. NC is one of few states that have this legal framework. However, I don't know if Washington (where this event took place) has that law. Conversely, say I was driving down the road and I hit a pedestrian who was jay walking. There were witnesses who said I was speeding. If Washington is a comparative negligence state, and it went to trial and a jury found that the accident was 70% my fault, because the witnesses said I was speeding, the pedestrian (plantiff) could recover 70% of their damages from my insurance and assets. Did that help?

First, he didn't punch her for jaywalking, he punched her because she was grabbing him and getting in the way. Second, they were jaywalking 15 feet from a crossing only because he stopped a guy who had done it. They were obviously trying to provoke the cop. Third, the "are you serious" guy must be related to Bob "Who are you?" Etheridge. Fourth, it's a bunch of savages, don't fuck with the cops. Yeah, jaywalking is bullshit but they were doing it for a reason, to fuck with the cop, pink shirt got what she was looking for.

The crowd gathering around trying to keep the cop from doing his job.

Yeah I'm glad he could keep safe among those spearchuckers.
6/16/2010 3:31:37 PM
6/16/2010 3:34:13 PM
Yea a lot of people don't know about it. Trial lawyers definitely don't like the way NC is, which is fine with me.
6/16/2010 3:37:35 PM
uppity bitches deserved more than a punching
6/16/2010 3:46:00 PM
To her credit, the chick that got punched decided not to kick it up another notch (with the dude's help), and then apparently stuck around to take her punishment.
6/16/2010 3:58:37 PM
yes if only those uppity negroes had known their place

Nobody (cop or civilian) has the right to harm you. If they put your hands on you, defend your self; fight back until they stop. That punch ended the one attacker quickly and decisively...it was an effective attack. As an LEO you can punch people, even in the head. As an officer, if someone puts their hands on you, you take action. Consequences have actions; a jaywalker pushing you without punishment might lead to her seriously injuring another officer because they believe there is no consequences. Use of force options are not a continuum; if A doesn't work go to B. A rapidly evolving situation requires a reasonably trained officer to make a snap judgement based on their training and experience. Lastly, trying to take someone in to custody who doesn't want to go isn't easy. It is easy to arm chair quarterback. As the video winds down, in my opinion, he could have used more strikes (baton, etc) to gain compliance instead of dancing with her.
6/16/2010 5:26:21 PM
this guy was out numbered. he was doing what was asked of him. that woman stopped actin a fool when he busted that lip.
6/16/2010 5:54:30 PM
Yeah, she did shut up real fast. I definitely don't think the cop was wrong at all. I think she got off easy with a right hook considering he always would have been justified in the use of pepper spray or a baton. I'd rather catch a fist than pepper spray or a baton.
6/16/2010 6:13:04 PM
has the NAACP come out on this yet? judging by what they have been complaining about in the last few weeks it seems like they would jump all over this...their complaint will not only be the white male cop hitting a black female but a white cop stalking out black jaywalkers on MLK Jr. BLVD. That's racism IMO.[Edited on June 16, 2010 at 6:24 PM. Reason : ..]
6/16/2010 6:22:21 PM
Im not going to lie, i thought his use of force was totally justified.
