6/15/2010 10:23:59 PM
Why is it a """""non-violent"""""" protest?
6/15/2010 10:29:10 PM
wow, this video is really pissing me off. I mean really, if you believe what these guys are preaching you'd think getting rid of busing was going to send us straight back to segregated schools. And can all the black preachers stop trying to sound like MLK? I want some diversity in my preaching.
6/15/2010 10:39:18 PM
6/15/2010 10:56:30 PM
the liberals are split between the perceived racism of not manually diversifying schools versus the environmental impacts of busing kids 45 minutes away from and to their homes twice a day.
6/15/2010 11:07:09 PM
^^ Re-reading I guess it sounds a little like I'm trolling. I do realize some schools will virtually be segregated just b/c the neighborhoods they are in are mostly black. But these people are trying to make it sound like we're going to go back to 1960s segregation and everything they fought for then will be lost.I'd like to see some evidence that this "diversifying" is even working. You can bus poor students to schools in rich areas or vice versa all you want. But does it actually have an impact on those students? Or are we just averaging out everything so all of the schools look like they're doing alright, but the poor kids still drop out.
6/15/2010 11:35:54 PM
If you read the article, him and his cronies during a recess sat down in the board of ed's chairs at the head table and refused to move.
6/15/2010 11:37:34 PM
He and his cronies(other religious leaders I believe) took a turn speaking and refused to yield the podium after their allotted two minutes. After 20 minutes the board canceled the meeting, at which point the protesters sat down at the board table, likely because they were tired of standing up and headed to jail regardless.I'm not sure this issue warranted a sacrificial arrest. But those kids in East Raleigh are fucked, any way you look at it.

SE Raleigh is one of the best Schools in the state? What are you using to measure with?http://www.ncreportcards.com/src/servlet/srcICreatePDF?pSchCode=562&pLEACode=920&pYear=2008-2009Looking at test scores I would say they are average in the state and well below other schools in the Wake county district
6/16/2010 9:56:55 AM
Test scores and school rankings would seem to indicate that what you say is not true.http://www.wcpss.net/test-scores/nc-abcs/2009/high.htmlhttp://www.wcpss.net/test-scores/
6/16/2010 9:58:27 AM
ok, so the test scores are low now under the current busing plan. what if you stop the busing and the scores go up...will you support it then?further, I was only speaking to schools from a facility standpoint. they are nice schools that hire from the same pool of teachers as everywhere else. SE Raleigh attracts kids from all over the county. there is also some onus on the students to "learn."
6/16/2010 10:04:36 AM
I fully support community based schools.
6/16/2010 10:12:28 AM
I oppose busing as well. But all schools should be held to the same standard.I propose we transfer the entire faculty of the highest scoring schools to the lowest performing ones each year. How many teachers would resign in protest supported by rallies of whitebread PTAs? The resulting brain drain is de facto segregation.
6/16/2010 10:19:37 AM
you are implying a lot of 'what ifs' and hypothetical situations to support your claim, but I will play.what if minority teachers didnt want to switch schools? are they also racist against their own race?
6/16/2010 10:23:35 AM
They are indeed. Teachers are the property of the government and should do as they're told.
6/16/2010 10:25:33 AM
