Hello Colleagues.

I recently graduated from UNC School of Dentistry, with a degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery, with honors. Now before you question why I'm here, I went to NCSU for undergrad, and graduated in 2006 with a degree in biological sciences.

I am taking a licensure board that will take place in Alabama (but it allows me to practice in NC). If you qualify as a potential patient, you'll have airfare covered, hotel stay covered, meals, and $250 just for participating. If you are selected to be a patient, you'll also get a free filling.

The examination is on Friday, August 13th, and you'll be expected to fly down the day before (Thursday August 12th) or ride with me by car, stay the night in Alabama, get up first thing in the morning, and participate in the licensure process (it ends at 1:30 pm), and then you'll be on your way back home. I need 2 patients for the examination, but I am taking 4 patients with me. That means only two of you will get treated. If you don't receive treatment, you will receive an additional $100.

Per the examination rules, you must be reasonably healthy, no allergies to latex, not taking bisphosphonates (for osteoporosis or cancer). My expectations are that you are a reliable person, of good moral character, and you must be available for those two days.

The ideal patients are those of you who recently went to a dentist, and due to financial matters, you are not able to afford treatment. If you had a recent round of full mouth x-rays taken within the last 6 months, that's a plus. You will need to be worked up by me to see if you are a suitable patient for the boards. Work up will possibly include x-rays, and clinical examination. I am in the process of making arrangements for this.

I will not provide fillings just because you "want one." You must have a need for a filling.

when do you need to select the participants? Im scheduled to go to the dentist in a couple of weeks and get full mouth x-rays. I may need a filling

The exam isn't until August 13th, but I'm going to go ahead and look now. When you get your full mouth series and clinical exam, the dentist will make a determination of what areas you need a fillings in, if you need them. If you don't mind, maybe you can get a copy of the x-rays (if he/she uses digital x-ray--they can just print them off) or email it to me once you have signed off consent to do so.

It's CITA, it's a regional board exam...they administer the licensing exam for several states (about 12 states), and so to take it in August, I have to go down to Alabama. Next time they do it at UNC is next year.

The patients are no guinea pigs...it's a legitimate process in which they test you to ensure that you can handle any live clinical scenarios that happen during a routine dental filling. I assure you, I'm quite qualified to perform these procedures...I've treated over 300 patients, and graduated with honors. They (CITA) screen potential candidates, i.e. you must be a current dental student with good standing or a doctor who has completed dental school.

at University of Alabama; sorry fillings cannot be re-done for this exam.

I have done this before for Dental students and I would like to tell you what a positive experience it was for me.

Basically, you go and sit in a chair and they work on you and every so often you have to go to the "grading area" where the big wigs will grade the process. If they pass the step, you go back and forth for the rest of the procedure. I learned a lot just from being there. I probably would do it again; however, at that time I will be too pregnant to travel. Also, the fillings they put in are black and not the white ones.

If you don't need a filling, you don't get treatment. It's a professional and ethical obligation to the public.

lol, I'm paying to have the filling a dental student did for his board exam re-done. Wish I'd found you instead of this guy.

Warning: If Novocaine wears off quickly this process will suck for you. I had to yell at the fucking examiner to get them to quit poking at my tooth because I was feeling EVERYTHING.

I regret you had a negative experience with that--was it a lower tooth that the student did? Inferior alveolar blocks are not the easiest injections in the world to do, and it has about 50% miss rate.

upper tooth. It's not bad as long as you realize that due to the extra time needed for the inspections you will probably need more than one injection. Novocaine doesn't last as long for me as normal either.

random question: what kind of exams do prosthodontists have to take (well, assuming you know)?

I had a real nice guy from Wilmington do something for me (obviously, not his license exam) but he wasn't as good as others have been at smoothing off whatever material it is that he used to cover up the hole he made in my tooth. The typical smooth (yet narrow) space between my maxillary central incisors is so tight and wonky that it's hard to get even that thin, "glide" floss in there.

Otherwise, tooth looks good (it was an internal bleach)
