Is it possible to have NCSU still forward mail being sent to my @ncsu email account if it's been 2 years since I've graduated?
6/3/2010 11:16:58 PM
no.and you're no longer getting e-mail there at this point. it's all being rejected.
6/3/2010 11:21:33 PM
Accounts are deleted one year after account deactivation.

Also, just to be nitpicky... why the hell does everyone call it webmail? Webmail is the goddamn interface you use to access your e-mail. E-mail != webmail.
6/3/2010 11:51:25 PM
But even if it's deleted, I would think they have the capability to re-create the account just for forwarding purposes. I have a unique userid, and I am thinking this should be possible. The reason this is important for me is because I have a couple old websites which are registered with this email address, and its the only way to recover my passwords. Also found something about an @alumni.ncsu.edu address:
6/3/2010 11:59:08 PM
They have the capability, but that would cost money, as it would take someone's time to accomplish. They're not going to do it for you under any circumstances, and there's no point in asking. The alumni e-mail address is whatever@alumni.ncsu.edu, and has nothing to do with your unity account. It's not even being run by the university.
6/4/2010 12:02:26 AM
What if I submitted an application for grad school, which allowed me access to my unity account up until the summer of 2009? Is it possible that one year has not expired yet? Who would I contact?
6/4/2010 12:05:21 AM
the only way you're getting it back is if you're a current student or employee. it's that simple.
6/4/2010 12:08:23 AM
6/4/2010 12:13:36 AM
Would it work if I signed up for a DE summer session II course and then dropped it immediately for a refund...would this work?
6/4/2010 12:13:44 AM
$20 paypal transfer to anyone who can make that happen.
6/4/2010 12:14:56 AM
you'd have to keep it until the semester actually started, IIRC.but still.... you should have thought about this a long time ago. everyone knows their unity account doesn't last forever....well, at least, before we went to gmail, it didn't.
6/4/2010 12:15:33 AM
and you're being a dick for trying to make the university do work for you because you didn't plan./thread
6/4/2010 12:17:32 AM
You're right about one thing, I didn't plan. So I am now willing to help stimulate the economy and maybe even create a new job for someone, so long as the university is willing and able to recognize me as a customer by allowing me to pay them for this service.
6/4/2010 12:33:27 AM
that's not going to happen. ever....unless you re-register for classes and pay tuition. or get hired.
6/4/2010 12:34:56 AM
Just when we thought the  capacity had already been reached...
6/4/2010 12:35:32 AM
You're no longer a customer of the university. They're not going to take your stupid $20 to let you have your unity account for 5 minutes. Over it, get there.
6/4/2010 12:40:29 AM
So be it, registration is the cost I will have to pay for my piss poor planning. So now does anyone have a course recommendation for someone with a background in computer engineer & electrical engineer and an MBA? An interesting online business class would be nice. Maybe project planning to really teach me a lesson here.
6/4/2010 12:43:30 AM
So you can cancel your registration on the first day of classes, get your money back, and play the university for chumps. And people wonder why tuition costs so much.
6/4/2010 12:45:05 AM
you must really be desperate if you're willing to pay $850 just to get your email back for a semester.wouldn't it be easier to contact the operators of the aforementioned websites and explain your situation?
6/4/2010 12:45:22 AM
No kidding. And it's not like you're the only person to ever sign up for something iwth a school email, and then graduate.Hell, you're not the only person to fail to plan for this, either.

This thread really brought out TWW's weaksauce douchebags
6/4/2010 1:20:44 AM
don't students get to keep their NCSU email if they have switched over to gmail?
6/4/2010 10:19:49 AM
yesso, sign up for a class..get your email going and apply to transfer your account over to gmail. i applied while i wasn't enrolled and they never did it..applied again after classes had started and they did it within an hour or so. so yeah, you could do that, then drop the class

I called the help desk the other day to ask about the rollover to gmail and lifetime accounts. The guy said that is the plan, but he doesn't know when it will be implemented (lifetime accounts, that is). I graduated in May and I'm really hoping they change the policy before my account expires, but I'm worried they won't
6/7/2010 7:13:31 AM
People still use AOL?
6/7/2010 7:36:44 AM
^^wat? NCSU gmail is already out... been using it for months
6/7/2010 8:17:05 AM
^Yeah, I have it too, but at this point the lifetime account POLICY hasn't been implemented. From what the guy at the help desk told me, at this time gmail is still subject to the same 4 month, one year deactivation, deletion (respectively) policy that squirrel mail is subject to, but lifetime accounts are the ultimate goal.[Edited on June 7, 2010 at 5:55 PM. It won't always work if you get hired by them, either. I graduated in 2005, took an extension job this January and they had to make me a new unity ID. Odd part is that my employee ID number is the same as my student ID number was and my tax information from when I was a student employee is still in the system. Just not my unity.
