Has anyone else been watching this travesty?
5/30/2010 10:42:05 PM
Michael Douglas is an authority on stuff apparently.
5/30/2010 10:52:31 PM
I watched about five minutes of an episode the other nightThey cut to their expert, Donald Trump, and I changed the channel
5/30/2010 11:18:32 PM
i like this show. i ignore anything the celebrities say b/c most of it is just vague bullshit anyway. other than that piece, it's good i think. i started recording them today but for some reason they skipped episodes 3-7.
5/30/2010 11:25:33 PM
the one excerpt I saw had Michael Strahan as a historian
5/30/2010 11:25:36 PM
last night they had melissa etheridge & some guy from pixar. i don't think they're trying to play them off as experts though.
5/30/2010 11:26:38 PM
i had them set to dvr but i have a hard time finding time to watch 2 hour shows
5/30/2010 11:45:15 PM
5/31/2010 2:08:02 AM
^^they all run an hour each on the history channel on my tv... now, they did run like 5-7 episodes back to back to back. maybe that's what you're thinking.
5/31/2010 10:31:23 AM
5/31/2010 11:22:50 AM
yeah i'm pretty sure they were all two hours, at least they showed up that way on my guide. i watched the first one and just deleted the rest
5/31/2010 11:35:16 AM
they arent bad, I am not recording them, but if they are on tv, and nothing else is on, then I will watch. I've seen 2 or 3 of them and dont see why they would be considered a "travesty" So what if there are a few celebrities giving their opinions, it doesnt take away from the story, which I find pretty entertaining/interesting
5/31/2010 4:17:21 PM
travesty? I've thoroughly enjoyed this series.
5/31/2010 4:49:21 PM
I don't see how you can tell the story of America's history while excluding the War of 1812. Seriously, WTF? Also a bit shady to exclude (entirely) WWI Otherwise, not too bad.
6/2/2010 8:17:46 PM
The season finale and millennium episodes were 2 hrs. The slavery, dust bowl, colonial, episodes were not.
6/2/2010 9:22:52 PM
^Yeah they were. I've watched every episode and they're all 2 hours a piece.
6/2/2010 9:48:00 PM
They did the life thing, and showed 2 new ones back to back every sunday, cept they combined them in to one show. When they rerun during the later weeks, they are split back in the hour long episodes.
6/3/2010 12:23:32 AM
i kinda excited about this, wish it would hurry up and DL
6/6/2010 3:10:14 AM
As a complete history of America obviously it's going to be lacking because of the low number of episodes. And yeah, the celebrities are annoying. But the information the shows do provide is interesting, and a lot of it was stuff I hadn't known previously. Baron von Steuben's career in Germany derailed by rumors of gay stuff? Statue of Liberty sat around in pieces until Pulitzer started a fundraising drive? I did not know these things. Thus, I like the show.Plus, at least it's actual stuff about history instead of inane reality shows about pawn shops and marksmanship.

I loved the stat that was like "Between 1825 and 1925 2/3 of Norway's population immigrates to America", trippy.
6/6/2010 6:17:22 PM
don't forget about trucking stuff on roads too, that is history as well.give me jesus, nazis, or civil war please
6/6/2010 7:05:16 PM
lot of Bank of America commercials. I wanted to watch it, but when I tuned in it was just all about how BofA made America. Then it cut to some celebrity and I changed the channel. North & South was much much better.

Pawn Stars and American Pickers absolutely belong on the History Channel. They deal in nothing but history.
6/7/2010 11:55:49 AM
it has interesting facts and figures...but not comprehensive enough for the quality they are trying to achieve. They portrayed the Civil War segment that the war was about slavery...they missed an opportunity there to teach a younger folks a valuable lesson.
6/7/2010 12:31:38 PM
that there's much more to history than "war"?
6/7/2010 12:44:58 PM
^^^I guess for those two I just meant to say I didn't like them Yes, you are correct that they do deal in history lol.
6/7/2010 3:17:29 PM
^^yes...and that the civil war wasn't about slavery
6/8/2010 12:51:38 PM
^ ugh, not this shit again.
6/8/2010 1:10:20 PM
The whole series was nothing but a big commerical for BoA and a lecture in revisionist history.^ I couldn't hardly watch the civil war episode because of that. All they said about the civil war was that it was over slavery and then they cut to Al Sharpton and co.
6/8/2010 1:15:06 PM
agreed - i was thinking "ugh, not this shit again".If the Civil War was about slavery, then Lincoln would have released the emancipation proclamation from the beginning. However, he waited until the North could not find a way to win the war, and then did it - effectively bringing the South's 'economic engine' to a halt. The chick from Rutgers is a nappy headed ho as well.
6/11/2010 11:10:43 AM
lol don't make a good point then hurl something tinged like a racial epithet at the end of itit demeans your argument
6/11/2010 11:22:54 AM
^^the show did a halfway decent job explaining the economic incentives, how the north was hypocritical from benefiting from the south, and southern motivation to remain independant. i think you may have missed the part where they explained the timing and reasoning of the emancipation proclamation. i think your criticism is based more on some already held opinions as your last sentence made apparent.
6/11/2010 11:50:59 AM
maybe everyone should read The Killer Angels.
6/11/2010 1:53:33 PM
^^^,^^ LOL. grasping at straws
