I have the back off of my LCD tv. I need someone to come replace 5 capacitors on the board and solder new ones in place. I can buy the capacitors myself, just need somebody to come and replace them. BYO Soldering supplies. Let me know, thanks. I've got some pics of the ruptured caps if you are into that kinda stuff. Also if you have a good connection for capacitors cheap let me know.

all you need is a desoldering iron and a decent soldering iron + solderanyone with an EE background can do it in their sleep.

the hard part is finding out why the caps blew in the first place.
5/28/2010 10:43:27 PM
^ya, that.I've never had a replaced cap work after being blown. Just replace the whole board off eBay.

high ripple current + heat + electrolytic = fail

ok back from vacation, i will post some pictures later tonight late. The caps are off a Samsung LCD that from the factory has underpowered capacitors. They recalled a few of the TVs that have bad capacitors but mine did not fall within the recall. Long story short my tv has the same bad caps and had the same thing go wrong the other recalled ones did, however to me Samsung shrugged their shoulders and said effYuu.

that sucks, they are usually pretty good about that sort of BS

I had the same thing happen to a 1.5 year old Samsung I have. I paid some dude off craigslist $75 to come out and replace them. It's been working fine now for the last ~8 months or so. All the forums I read on the subject said Samsung was notorious for shipping their LCDs with crappy capacitors.[Edited on June 1, 2010 at 12:59 PM. Reason : Maybe $50, I can't remember. I remember thinking it was pretty cheap.]

Try it yourself, sounds like a fun project.

i was geared up to do this myself but check again with samsung. my tv is 2 years old and they are driving out to the house to replace the entire power supply board for free tomorrow.
6/1/2010 11:27:28 PM
works like a charm now the tech replaced the power supply circuit board. no charge covered by samsung
6/2/2010 9:34:45 PM
Awesome, good on Samsung for stepping up.
6/2/2010 9:46:35 PM
i was gonna offer my mil-spec soldering skills

careful about them replacing the powerboard. It will have the same underpowered capacitors in it. IT needs to have 25V caps in it and not the underpowered 10V. This comes directly from the repair company that i called to get a quote, then told them i would fix it myself. They will just rupture again in 1.5 - 3 years. Also my TV is 2 months outside the recall that was probably on yours. Samsung does not want to fix mine because it was manufactured 2 monthes earlier.....eventhough it obviously has the same crappy capacitors.

Where is the TV? Is the card already removed?
6/4/2010 6:19:39 AM
TV is at my house in Durham right north of Briar Creek. The board is still on the TV held on by 4 screws with about 4 connectors, one on each side. I can unplug and unscrew board or it can remain at my house.

6/10/2010 1:58:33 AM
btt I just got the caps in, ready for somebody to take the old ones off and solder these new ones in place.
6/15/2010 10:04:57 PM
If nobody on here is willing to do it, you could mail it to me. If you pay for shipping both ways, Ill just do it for free for you.
6/16/2010 7:03:40 AM
^ thanks, If anybody locally can do this let me know. I have the caps in hand now and I can bring by the TV/board to your house/shop and pay you in cash, beer, or the going semi-legal tender. I hope not to spend too much but if all else fails I may go buy solder and desolder equipment and give it a shot. Thanks for the look and shoot me a PM. The Sony Trinitron CRT has stepped up to the plate and is going strong for now.
6/16/2010 3:04:24 PM
Wow, nobody has stepped up? Just bring the board and the new caps to me, I'm about 10 minutes from you. I have all the proper equipment and I'll have them replaced in five minutes or so. You can give me a few bucks or a beer or something.

6/22/2010 9:19:23 PM
If you really cant find anyone to do this, I really dont mind. Shipping on the board by itself wouldnt be bad.

DID IT WORK DID IT WORK
6/23/2010 1:23:01 PM
just got the board back in, cover on, and hooked back up...I dont think i have ever jumped into the air at the site of the Ellen Degeneras show before but it was the first thing that came on that screen...Nice work Quinn, 4 new caps on and it was a piece of cake. After watching what quick work you made of it, maybe I'll try my hand at soldering next time. A+ work, thanks
6/23/2010 3:08:50 PM
