I have a Thule Evolution Cargo carrier but apparently I lost the 4 u-bolts I need to clamp down the cargo box to the racks. If anyone have any to sell or if I can borrow the weekend, I would really appreciate it!They look like this.http://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Thule/TH43215.html

Wow...$18 for some U Bolts.Attn Thule & Yakima: This type of thing is why I don't have one of your sweet roof racks on either of my vehicles.

meh, just use zip ties
5/24/2010 6:30:33 PM
Try burke brothers hardware or northern tools for trailer axle u bolts...or just use giant zip ties.

zip ties? will that hold down the large cargo carrier going 70 mph on the highway ?i'll give burke brothers hardware a try...already tried REI, they don't sell it

The large three foot long HVAC ductwork zip ties will. The problem with zip ties is they become brittle in the sunlight and will cut easily on sharp edges.Yeah, burke bros will have what you need. Might cost a little more than $4.50 each though. Bolts are expensive.

wouldn't lowes or home depot be cheaper?

are these square just so they'll fit the square bars, or do you have round bars?also, shipping weight is 2lbs? for one bolt, that seems a bit high...[Edited on May 25, 2010 at 9:02 AM. Reason : .]

they are flat u bolts so doesn't matter what shape the bars are....

If you could find/make a small piece of stiff flat metal you could drill a hole at each end and run a regular bolts through it. This is assuming there are no super tight space constraints.

i'll check out HD/Lowes to see if they have the right width...otherwise i may need to resort to modding it like Skack suggested but it's got to be tight and strong.....last thing i want is the cargo box flying off on the highway creating an accidenttime is running out! i need it this weekend for a trip to IKEA....
5/25/2010 12:03:06 PM
FWIW, while the box would obviously fly off if nothing were holding it on, the design of the box (especially if you're using a deflector, too) generally keep the air flowing above it and pressing it down...the bolts are there to keep it from coming off, but they don't have to be super-duper heavy-duty or anything...any u-bolt of the same diameter will likely be just fine

are you an aerospace engineer? j/k.... anyways if someone can help me out, i'll grab something for them at ikea too
5/25/2010 2:00:28 PM
i'm not, but i understand physics
5/25/2010 2:49:50 PM
...ikea?
5/25/2010 4:15:51 PM
i want some cheap but modern looking things...i can't afford Ecko or Ambiente
5/25/2010 4:51:45 PM
You get what you pay for at Ambiente. But only if it's on clearance, lol.(one of my sofas is from there)
5/25/2010 11:11:32 PM
I bet Agri Supply in Garner would have compatible U-bolts
5/26/2010 12:31:05 AM
thanks for everyone's help....i was able to go to lowes to buy some hexbolts and plates that hopefully will be sturdy enough to do the job......
