All of the other cigar threads are old and none of them really had any info good enough to have them brought back from the grave, so we'll give this one a try and see if it'll stay alive through the summer smoking season at least

I'm back on a cigar smoking kick, so hopefully I'll be able to try some new stuff and post about it once every week or two

I just made a trip up to RJ Tobacco in Brier Creek and picked up:

-Oliva G
-Oliva V
-Rocky Patel "The Edge"

I've had the Oliva's before, and they are probably my 3rd favorite brand of cigar, behind Padron (any type, but especially the serie 1926 or anniversary) and Opus X. Unfortunately RJ tobacco was out of the Padron and Opus X so I went with the Oliva's and then the owner of the store recommended the Rocky Patel. I've never had any of his cigars before, but I might try it out tonight and report back.

Earlier this week I smoke my last Padron from my humidor. It was just the standard cigar, not any of the special series or anything, and it is such a good cigar. I'll definitely have to make a trip up to Tinder Box to pick up a few more sometime soon.

theres not much better than cracking open a good beer or scotch, lighting up a cigar and kicking your legs up on the back porch on a good summer evening

What are you guys smoking?

Here's what I have on hand:

1. Punch Rothschild Modelo (I enjoy them very much for a cheap smoke)
2. La Gloria Cubana Wavell Maduro (Never had any of this brand before)
3. Macanudo Maduro Diplomat (Not usually a fan of the Macanudos, but this one got great ratings so I thought I'd give it a shot)
4. Rocky Patel The Edge (Excited about trying this, have heard good things)
5. Ashton Classic 8-9-8 (A gift. I'm interested...)
6. Cohiba Crystal Corona
7. A 5 pack of Quorum Little Q's. I enjoy these for a shorter smoke. Love the Nicaraguan style.
8. Some small Partagas cigarillos.

Like I said before, my favorite smoke so far is the Arturo Fuente Hemingway. I also really really enjoyed the few Padrons I've had, but I'm not sure which ones they were. Haven't had a bad one though.

I am gonna have a cigar or two at Jax's later tonight. If anyone wants to join, I can bring a few extra cigars.

I have a Punch and a Macanudo Maduro (not sure about the types of either) sitting in my humidor for whenever I run low on my good stuff and want to smoke something different.

^it really doesnt cost much to get a decent cigar. Anywhere from $5-10 will get you a very good cigar, $15-20 will get you near top of the line stuff

I smoked the Rocky Patel Edge tonight. It tasted great; it was really mild but flavorful. My one gripe was the burn. It didn't burn very evenly at all. Kinda made me a little mad. That said, I'll probably try it again since I enjoyed the taste, but I hope the burn is better on the next one.

I meant to also add that it went really well with some Jim Beam.

Had a Rocky Patel vintage 1990 stick this weekend and it was freaking great. Nice smooth, creamy flavor, great construction, and it looked wonderful. The burn was a little wonky, but I was smoking it kind of fast. A friend gave me one, and I would certainly buy another.

Also had a Perdomo Habano Broadleaf Maduro this weekend. It was also excellent.

Smoking cigars with Cubans is a fun learning experience.

When do you guys usually smoke?

I do it on the way to work in the morning, with a hot cup of joe.
If I'm grilling for more than 10 minutes, I will.

I can't do it often near the house, because my wife gets sick really quickly off of the smoke, so it's my car a lot of times.

oh, and 100!

^^ I love the Hemingway cigars. I find they pair extremely well with Islay scotch. (Talisker 10 and Bowmore 12 are my personal favorite)

I havent smoked a cigar in about a month, pretty disappointing. I actually looked at my humidor for the first time since my last smoke this morning. Dealing with a baby is hard

Its too damn hot outside now to smoke one. I wish I had a nice screened in porch with a fan

^the Tinder Box at South Park mall, in Charlotte is incredible. they have a back smoking room, complete with deep leather chairs and sofas. I used to go back there once a week and smoke. Pretty regular crowd that was there, great conversation. I highly suggest it, if you are going to be in Charlotte that is.

I just got some more Edges today in the mail, and should have five Acid Blondies by the end of the week.

http://www.cigarbid.com is awesome

on a sadder note, I opened up my humidor yesterday and noticed some white..."fuzz"...on the roof...so it looks like it may have a little mold in it...

alcohol and DI with a sponge to the thing....then I'm letting it dry out and season it later...hopefully my sticks won't dry out too badly.

I guess I'll just throw them in a plastic container for the time being.

So my pops went to Aruba a couple of weeks ago and brought back a box of Aruhiba's. I don't know if you can get them in the states yet, but if you know anyone going down there on vacation, I would highly suggest them picking up a box for you.

http://www.aruhibacigars.com/

Edit: It looks like you can buy them online from that site now - but note that they are MUCH cheaper if bought in Aruba and brought back.

Just noticed a tiny spot of mold appearing in my humidor...

I think I caught it early enough to save my stock, but has this ever happened to anyone? Any suggestions/recommendations?

My boss at work gave me a Montecristo Habano No. 2 Friday to celebrate my decision to stay in the Navy. It was the best cigar I've ever had.

A week ago, I would have said a cigar is a cigar, regardless from whence it came. I've had a few Cubans in my life (before I started smoking cigars regularly), and I never found them very different from the RPs or the Arturo Fuentes that I smoke now.

That Montecristo Habano, though, changed my mind.

I don't know if I can wait until the Castro bros kick the can so we can get those cigars legally and cheaper.
