I haven't touched a sewing machine since middle school. I'd also like to learn a bit about pattern designing. Anyone have recommendations on where to take lessons? I thought about Wake Tech but don't know if it would be worth the drive out there, especially if there's stuff closer to the NCSU/Cary area.

i want sewing lessons too, i've found what seems like a great place in houston but i know you dont live heremaybe try a meetup.com group?

Honestly I didn't know people still used meetup I think I would want something with more structure though. Homework and crap like that to keep me motivated. Apparently Wake Tech does some sewing lessons at Knightdale High School. There's also these two places:http://www.sewuniquefabrics.com/http://www.berninaworldofsewing.com/but it looks like they make you bring your own machine

call and ask, you never know, they may let you rent one! ^ that bernia link says you can use their machines but you have to bring some special bobbin or buy one there for $2.50http://sewcraftyhouston.com/move to houston!! this place looks so funthe CC class is prob your best bet at this point, at least to get you started. i'd love to get to the point where i can do simple alterations & MAYBE one day make my own dresses so they fit me in all the right places, or be able to make alterations on store bough dresses... OH TO DREAMbut i feel like its a huge obstacle since i have no one to mentor me, i wish i lived closer to my grandma [Edited on May 21, 2010 at 10:30 PM. Reason : sdjksdjf]

I think Joann has classes as well.If you want to get a TWW class together I could teach it. Don't have an extra n00b machine though, just the heirloom embroidery POS my mother forced onto me to ease her guilt of selling my machine without asking me first.

I teach a sewing class to high schoolers. What do you want to learn specifically? Are you interested in sewing clothes, crafts, or doing repairs?

I'm interested mostly in sewing clothes. I'd also like to learn how to draft patterns eventually. I have an idea for a tote bag I want to make but not sure where to begin
