Does anyone have previous experience living and working within the downtown area? New job opening and I'm just looking for ideas of where to live.

I can think of someone who might be able to help you out
4/20/2010 4:44:29 PM
not quite what I was looking for but funny none the less
4/20/2010 4:53:48 PM
Its really awesome. I haven't lived down there or worked there but I know people who do and they love it.
4/20/2010 5:17:38 PM
Bump. Will be there next week for work. Staying near the airport. Strip clubs? Bars? Hookers? Restaurants? Ice cream shops? Not interested in whatentheeverfucktheycallbbq.

For Ice Cream, go to Mike's located on Broadway. That is, if it's still around. I was there just before the big flood a few years back. Also, check out SATCO near Vanderbilt for eating. You'll thank me later.
5/22/2013 12:09:27 AM
Unfortunately I'm only there from 7am Thursday till 9pm on Friday. And both days will be full work days. Ill see what I can get too. Thanks!
5/22/2013 6:41:00 PM
lol @ satco and mikes. Not bad places but obviously tourist food.
5/22/2013 6:45:42 PM
There must be a lot of hot Vanderbilt student tourist chicas then...
5/22/2013 8:05:27 PM
Well think about it. Where would you eat if you were an 18 year old bookworm from new york?I'd also give good odds that the girls you were looking at were USN students because they always go there anyway (I almost taught there).
5/22/2013 8:16:27 PM
Nashville is only about 1.5 hrs north of me, I've been there a few times. Good call on passing on their "BBQ", especially if you are used to NC style. NC BBQ made me such a BBQ snob.I've been to a handful of restaurants, I really enjoyed BB Kings (live music but then again tons of restaurants in Nashville have live music) and some decent soul food. If you are looking to stuff your face and have a few people that you are eating with, check out Monell's in Germantown.

wstcoastwolf lives in nashville, despite the handle.

Great timing. G. Garvins Nashville episode of RoadTrip is on right now.

I lived there for a few years and knew a few tdubbers.

Try the chicken at Hattie B's. Go to Pucketts for breakfast and get the southern stack. There's a famous old place near Vandy that serves burgers on French rolls, it's pretty good too. And check out the Flying Saucer; same idea as the one in Raleigh, but in an awesome location in an old train station and with better looking waitresses.
6/5/2013 9:04:24 PM
Having started this thread it's pretty much spot on with recommendations. Satco is good late night food but that's about it. Monell's is good but be prepared as it's served family style so you sit with other people. Hattie B's is better that Princes as it doesn't burn you up. Bar near Vandy is Rotier's and the burgers on french rolls are good. Parking at Flying Saucer is horrible. Best breakfast is Le Peep out in Belle Meade. For a good burger try the original Sportsmen's out in Belle Meade too.

best burger is at whiskey kitchen. its above a top notch steakhouse and they take the scraps to make their burgers. they also use whiskey in everything.

I have lived in Nashville for over 4 years. Awesome town. I live in the Hillsborough area and can walk to lots of bars and restaurants. 12 south is another neighborhood close to downtown that is really blowing up. Feel free to hit me up with any specific questions.

BTTTI'll be in Nashville for work 8/30-9/1, staying at a hotel in the Gulch, then maybe staying at my cousin's place in Clarsville for a couple days after that. What do I need to check out? Looks like some good recommendations in this thread, but I'm sure stuff has changed in the last 3 yearsextra credit for family friendly places since I'll have my wife and kids with me

Pancake Pantry is great, but be prepared for a line out the door and down the street(though they do put water jugs out there for people in line). I also enjoyed "Eat Love Biscuit" as a solid breakfast/brunch spot. Then there are the classic family-friendly stops: The Parthenon, Country Music HoF, see a show at the Grand Ole Opry, tour The Ryman, checking out concerts, and I think you can walk around the new venue/ampitheater downtown on the river. I went out there last summer but wasn't focused on family-friendly things, so more music/breweries/honky tonks/barcades/etc.[Edited on August 18, 2016 at 9:04 AM. Reason : .]

I absolutely love this city. That's all
8/18/2016 10:10:14 AM
^^ I forgot about the Parthenon. Good idea. That whole park is pretty cool.

second loveless cafe, that place is amazingly good. If you go on a saturday or sunday morning be prepared for an hour wait minmum, but it was cool little shops you can explore while you waitalso everyone loves hattie B's for hot chicken but I personally like Big Shakes way better[Edited on August 22, 2016 at 8:29 PM. BTTTSome good ideas in this thread...I'm going to Nashville for the 1st time with a few people for my bachelor party weekend. Leaving this Thurs and staying thru Sunday. Staying at a house along the Cumberland River, so some good recommendations for outdoor type stuff would be cool. Looks like The Gulch/Pie Town area is good for a decent concentration of breweries to walk to. Kind of worried there's a Rock N Roll Marathon on Saturday, so I might have to plan around that. How's the minor league baseball team?
4/24/2017 12:12:51 PM
You will see more bachelorette parties in that weekend then you'll see the rest of your life there that is for SURE!

Bump. I'll be there for a long weekend and I haven't been since college and won't hardly recognize the place, I'm guessing.

Nah, that would be Austin, Texas without a doubt.FWIW, I enjoyed my time there last weekend. If I were in my early 20s and wanted to live in the South again, I would pick it over Raleigh, Charlotte, and even Atlanta.

Like 10 years ago sure. Nashville is top 5 for sureThat being said I wouldn’t mind living there
