Steve Sansweet is like the Lee Fowler of Lucasfilm.

Wow, three horrible movies and three great movies turned into horrible movies. Awesome!

So apparently, Lucasfilm already has 1080p masters of the original trilogy, made as part of the work on the 2004 DVD release. These are what have been airing in HD on TV. I seriously doubt they are going to do anything other than put those masters right on the Blu-ray as is. It's a shame because there are a lot of documented flaws with that release, and a Blu-ray release would be a great time to fix them. Ideally they would go back to the original camera negative and produce new masters. Unfortunately, Lucas has already pretty much said he his never doing that again, since he was "happy" with the final 1080p masters.

I would like a version where Luke didn't sound like a whiny bitch the entire fucking time.Bonus points if there's an optional soundtrack that has Hamill re-record all Luke's lines in the voice of The Joker.

Unfortunately I'm not sure they'll ever release the "original" versions of NH, ESB, and ROTJ in anything more than an add-on novelty to a larger set.The "special editions" have now become official canon of Lucasfilm, and are considered the only official versions of each film. With that, things like Greedo shooting first are technically now the official story line, at least as far as Lucas is concerned. That's also why (if you have the 2-disc set released containing the un-edited versions) the un-edited versions are labeled as "theatrical releases."What would be perfect is if Lucasfilm went ahead and blew its entire load on this set by placing the "special editions"/prequels on 6 separate discs, the un-edited originals on each of their own discs, and then have 1-2 full blu-rays of bonus content. If that were the case, you name the price and I'll pay it.There is plenty in the redone versions that bothers me, but as a true fan, I don't consider any of it to completely ruin any of the movies for me. Why let the aweseomeness that is the original trilogy be ruined by roughly 10 minutes of newer scenes? I've just never understood the position of people that act like those short changes are enough to piss in their entire bowl of cereal. No matter what the picture is like, I for one can't wait to have full, uncompressed audio tracks paired with each movie...

He'll probably release the special edition versions for the initial blu-ray release, then he'll get everyone to buy the set again by releasing the theatrical release on blu-ray a year or two later.I'm pretty sure he knows that everyone would rather have the theatrical release and purposely exploits that to his advantage. Just come out with statements like "the original copies were edited" and "there is only the special editions". Get people to buy what they feel is the inferior product, then provide the superior product once sales start to level off, knowing full well that the die hards will jump at the chance to get what they really wanted all along. Of course I'm not saying anything new here. It's business.

Special Edition Blu Ray for the Prequel Trilogy should have a "remove Jar-Jar Binks" option and a "Replace Hayden Christensen's voice with James Earl Jones" option.[Edited on April 21, 2010 at 3:10 PM. Reason : Yes it would be ridiculous, but would it be any MORE ridiculous?]

This might be interesting to the nerdier among you:http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.htmlA lot of it is old news about the SEs, etc. but some of the info about the 2004 DVD release was new to me - especially the extent to which George almost doesn't seem to understand all of this digital technology he champions.

The "Special Editions" were awful. Plain and simple. Too much distracting garbage on the screen, horrendous butchering of musical parts. Not once when I was growing up did I think to myself, "Man, Cloud City would look so much better if there were some windows there!". The only redemption came when they released both versions together on dvd so I could watch Star Wars how it was supposed to be. Sadly, I think the blu-rays are just going to be redone special editions. No-fucking-thanks.

Haha. Because all the other scenes where someone is yelling "NO" were so good they just had to do another. Pretty sure this is just a troll attempt though. Will I be buying yet another version of the trilogy?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv666PtpD_M[Edited on August 31, 2011 at 8:17 AM. Reason : -]

Han Solo is a fucking drug runner. He kills duders, get over it Lucas
8/31/2011 8:28:33 AM
Other known alterations: Ewoks now have eyelids, Obi-Wan's roar to scare the Sand People in ANH has been tampered with again, sound mix is more effects heavy now during space battle sequences, Sebulba is now present during the Jabba palace scenes, Jabba has had some facial expression "enhancements", CG rocks added in front of R2's canyon hiding spot in ANH, Greedo and Han now shoot at the same time, effects of Han "unfreezing" from the carbonite have been altered. The only change that really bothers me is the new Vadar "NOOOOOO" being added to ESB, and that won't keep me from upgrading my set for the 3rd time.[Edited on August 31, 2011 at 10:41 AM. If Lucas was smart, he would have a theatrical and directors cut version. And the theatrical cost more as part of some special get up.

This is the only review I will be reading:http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Star-Wars-Original-Trilogy-Blu-ray/19623/BTW it says 6.1, is that what THX is now? Where is the 6th speaker? On the ceiling pointing down? Here we go:
9/3/2011 1:54:12 PM
Then why is there a center front speaker?
9/3/2011 6:51:13 PM
main dialogLeft and Right front are for front ambiance sounds and loud sounds like explosions. Rear channels are not used even closely to how front left and right are. If you are lucky in a movie 3 or 4 scenes will use the rear channels clearly while front left and right are being used constantly; as is the center channel, mainly speaking.[Edited on September 3, 2011 at 7:03 PM. Reason : .]
9/3/2011 6:58:16 PM
Sure 2 speakers can give the effect of a single speaker between them but it's no where as accurate as just having an actual speaker there.
9/3/2011 7:37:18 PM
As three letter acronyms go, THX is only slightly more meaningful than LOL.
9/3/2011 7:38:54 PM
^^ that is all in your opinion. I would much rather spend more money on a good set of 5.1 speakers than have to get cheaper 7.1 or 7.2. Some people can't tell the difference in Pioneer speakers in a car and Infinity. It all comes down to the end user, but to me (I've been around 5.1 and 7.1/7.2 a lot and I mean hundreds of hours) a more expensive set of 5.1 speakers will always beat a cheaper set of 7.1/7.2. In your thinking it might as well be 180.1 speakers so that nothing is a combo of 2 separate channels mixing naturally.Speaking of THX and Lucas: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/THX-1138-Blu-ray/9459/[Edited on September 3, 2011 at 8:18 PM.
