season is picking back up. Figured I would make a thread.Got about 2 tourneys in the next month, Im guessing State has about the best deal on range balls.$7 for the big bucket...unless anyone knows of a better deal around.

^Par 3 on Highway 401 between Garner and Wake Tech charges $12 for a bucket on 250 balls.
4/16/2010 12:33:21 AM
do any courses in the area do league play?
4/18/2010 9:57:44 PM
Par 3 uses cut up Pinnacle and Rock Flite for their range ballsno thanks
4/18/2010 10:14:03 PM

5/14/2010 12:34:12 PM
looks like hes out to play paintball instead of golfbout to get the new Callaway IZtour in the next few weeks...Ive used Cobra for the past...5 years. Should be a good switch though.
5/14/2010 1:39:47 PM
I heard that eagle ridge has free range balls now that they're under new ownership. I have no idea if theres any truth to that.

I went from hitting these for 8 or 9 years:to hitting these:I loved the 300s for as long as i had them...but I wanted to take more advantage of modern technology. I was a 1 handicap in HS now playing to about a 3 or 4, so the increase in forgiveness and distance is a big plus. I went from hitting my old 6 iron around 185 to now hitting it 200 yrds. The burners are truly unbelievable. They don't look as good as the 300 at address, but that's okay by me right now due to my lack of playing as much as i used to. So if anyone is skeptical of the hype around the burners...trust me, they are VERY good[Edited on May 14, 2010 at 2:49 PM. Reason : d]

I got a Burner driver yesterday...it is amazing...I want to try out some buner irons, I got some Pingeye2s but they are getting old and warn out
5/14/2010 9:22:47 PM
got titleist ap2 irons. taylormade r9 driver, and a taylormade 3 wood and hybrid. still need three wedges. thinkin' 52, 56, and 60.
5/14/2010 9:53:09 PM
Does anyone else absolutely hate these ginormous drivers that companies are coming out with? I guess im old fashioned and like the smaller sized driversI have a titleist 975 D and a lynx black cat titanium, both of which are about half the size of these paul bunyan fuckers out today. I probably lose 10-20 yards on drives but I hit the ball long enough that it doesnt matter.
5/14/2010 10:05:50 PM
I've got an old TaylorMade r540xd thats quite big enough, these new drivers are getting a tad too big. I've been thinking of looking at some new irons to replace my old TaylorMade rac-ht's, I might take a look at those burners.
5/14/2010 11:04:07 PM
Got a taylormade R9 460 driver a year or so ago. That club is HOT.
5/15/2010 12:14:10 AM
I used to like smaller head drivers as well until I hit Cobra drivers. I got the Cobra S9-1 and absolutely love it. I get awesome distance along with a very forgiving face, its hard to switch back once you try the newer drivers.

5/21/2010 5:35:11 PM
I am fond of Callaway and Titliest. Side note. 16 year old from Texas shot 68 today to be in the hunt
5/21/2010 7:28:58 PM
Cobra 3&5 wood is what I usebut then again I hit Cobra better than any other club when it comes to fairway woods and drivers.

so I am into watching golf, my friends are golfers, and my pop pop died and I inherited clubs. I have played twice with a girl and I shot a 131 and a 116 on the same course back to back weekends. I have no driver. Should I play a little more with these clubs and get a little better before I buy my own clubs? Playing golf is expensive but the job I am about to take will help me afford it, unfortunately I will be working 8-5 though so only knights play or hitting range balls? My girlfriend wants to start playing with me and she has her own clubs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

get some range balls...do you live in a house or a condo/townhouse?find a 50 yard or so patch of grass and take your pitching wedge and learn to hit it straight and clean with a half swing...do that and then bump up to 3/4. then once you have that mastered go to full swing.I find most people have trouble making solid contact and swinging too hard. Watch a video of someones swing in slo-mo such as Ernie Els or Retief Goosen...someone with a solid swing and learn EACH and EVERY bit of that swing...frame by frame. replicate that.the range is a bad place to start because you will just keep reinforcing your bad habits.start small. you didnt start shooting basketball from the 3 point line, you warm up with layups then go outward.
5/21/2010 9:33:48 PM
Thats the thing, I am not that bad to be honest. To shoot 131 and then drop 15 strokes without even hitting a range on a tough course at Beau rivage I feel as if I am the type of person who could shoot 90's then get serious. I just wanted to know what to do about all the other stuff.
5/21/2010 9:37:15 PM
Whats wrong with your game then? what keeps you in the 100's?if you are shooting 30 over...you ARE that bad. 20 isnt too bad 10 is a helluva lot better...Par is good/great depending on the course and tees. What is the limiting factor in your game? Im not sure I am understanding.

I ran across some information relating to clones today. Anyone have any insight/opinions on them?I was looking at the Callaway X-22 clones (Gigagolf Powermax GX922) as a possible upgrade to my heavy no-name brand irons. $150 shipped for a full set is a pretty decent price for a custom fit upgrade. I'd spend at least $250 for a set of used irons custom fitted.

played Lonnie on Wednesdayplaying it again on Sundaygoal: stay out of the 2,000 sand traps
5/22/2010 12:27:02 AM
^How is it this year? Did they make any changes over the winter? Roll the fairways smooth? Shape the bunkers and get out the extra sand? i really want to like that course but it was mighty bad last year because of some of that shit. I'll be back at the end of the summer to try again.
5/22/2010 9:36:23 AM
i didn't get a chance to play there at all last season, so I can't make a comparisonalso....Wednesday was the day after that pretty big rainstorm, so the traps were a little packedenjoyed the fairways though!
5/22/2010 10:05:36 AM
last year the fairways were still bumpy as hell from the sod they laid, which is fine, except every other golf course in america that sods its fairways like that will water the piss out of them and roll asphalt steam rollers over them once or twice to flatten out the bumps. The sand traps also needed to be shaped some, I think I hit in 3 or 4 and had a fried egg in all of them. I am glad they went ahead and changed #3 to a par 5 though. Makes use of the back tee and its a great par 5 from that distance...horrible par 4.
5/22/2010 10:28:25 AM
you would think that with our turfgrass program, they'd be on top of the fairways
5/22/2010 10:38:07 AM
Number 1 is really the only hole that should be rolled right now. The rest are all pretty good. You can be in the middle of the fairway on 1 and get some strange lies. Greens are in very good shape and rolling true. They have installed fans on 4 and 14, but it is too soon to tell if they are helping. Last year, it was hard to see what they were going for with the bunkering style, but now that things are starting to grow in a little better, you can see the bigger picture a lot better and there are a few holes on the course where it actually does look like pine valley which is what they were going for. Number ten specifically.
5/22/2010 11:15:30 AM
Michelle Wie making headlines again today...
5/22/2010 2:13:30 PM
Course has a long way to go to be pine valley. That is literally one of the greatest golf courses in the world. There are 20-30 in NC better than LP. I do remember that #1 was the worst fairway last year, but its good to hear that the rest have flattened out.
5/23/2010 12:08:15 AM
it's gonna be soggy as hell out there today, assuming we get to play2 hours may not be enough time to stop raining and dry up a bit
5/23/2010 9:26:07 AM
opinions on Lochmere?
7/17/2010 11:12:25 AM
^ I'm not fond of it, it's just a mediocre layout and usually crowded. Can't comment on the condition right now haven't played there in a while. More of a traditional country club type layout, but not a very exciting one. I think it's cheap though, my top picks in the area for the money are Lonnie, Neuse, Eagle Ridge, and River Ridge. I hear Chapel Ridge is really good too, but never played it.
7/17/2010 11:59:49 AM
I played at RGA yesterday. Was pretty fun. It is way cheap after 5pm. I rode holes-1-9 and then they let me go on and play 10-13. Got there at 6 and played 1-13 and 7 and 8 for a second time. Update on my scoring like i told the guy before. first round ever 131second round ever 115third round ever 99 ( last friday at bear trail golf club) and then shot 50 on the front 9 at RGA. Still playing with crap clubs, but does anyone know the special deals around this town? I must have searched all over the internet.
8/7/2010 8:49:34 PM
Lonnie Poole and The Neuse are both $25 after 5 all you can play, with cart.I think RGA is $20 to walk all day long for students.
