Old thread was not only two years old but featured some speculative/out of date info. I am going rogue on this one, and here's why:The first name on the short list to direct this film is JOSS FUCKING WHEDEON.YESSSSSSSSSSS.I'm not a Whedon fanboy, but I love what he's done with the X-Men and I know he'd knock the Avengers out of the park.

Man, I like Joss Whedon when he's doing Joss Whedon, but I don't know if I want Joss Whedon's Avengers.

i too read this news a week or so ago and got really excited. and i am also one of those who is completely on board with Chris Evans being tapped to play the role of Capt. America.
4/14/2010 8:37:08 AM
What has he done with the X-Men?V, No shit, I hadn't realized that he's been writing comics while making crappy tv shows. Might have to pick some up and get caught up.[Edited on April 14, 2010 at 9:03 AM. Reason : V]
4/14/2010 8:59:35 AM
Well, I only read the first bit of Astonishing X-Men, but he sent them into an alien fucking dimension or whatever and retconned the death of Colossus, so....
4/14/2010 9:00:36 AM
but then his second story arc completely sucked. who knows which joss whedon will show up for this?
4/14/2010 9:04:07 AM
Actually, the parts I described meet my personal criteria for sucky X-Men stories.
4/14/2010 9:10:14 AM
Are we talking Cathy Gale Avengers or Emma Peel Avengers?I keed I keed!!!He'd probably just cast Summer Glau as Emma Peel anyway...
4/14/2010 9:52:43 AM
So is this gonna be more of that Ultimate universe / Earth-616 mixing and matching bullshit? That has been my only complaint with all the new generation MARVEL shit.
4/14/2010 12:16:52 PM
It's the movie.It's neither 616 or ultimate.
4/14/2010 12:22:17 PM
^thats exactly what I'm talking about. Dunno, I just think I would enjoy these movies better if they stuck to the canons that I know and love.
4/14/2010 12:38:18 PM
Never happens in any comic book movie. There's not enough time, plus canon is usually pretty convoluted and often stupid.
4/14/2010 12:44:53 PM
i feel like Chris Evans has already done terribly in a lot of action movies(push ,f4,f42 =terrible). not sure if it's him or the script that tries to make him the badass and the comic relief. if he put on about 40lbs of muscle and didn't crack a smile the whole movie i'd buy him as captain America.
4/15/2010 7:35:14 AM
he's solid in sunshine

wow. I love a lot of the stuff Joss Whedon writes. But does anyone know much about him as a director? The only movie I've ever seen that he directed was Serenity. I thought it was well written, but it didn't really *look* that great (though it didn't look bad either). I think Whedon will do a competent job as director, but I don't think it is his strong suit.PS* Why did bandit praise Whedon's work for X-Men? As far as I knew he disowned any work on X-Men because they wound up using almost none of the script he wrote.[Edited on July 25, 2010 at 11:17 AM. Reason : ``]

he's probably talking about his run on the aptly named astonishing x-men.[Edited on July 25, 2010 at 12:21 PM. Reason : !]

^^1. Yes, a lot of people know a lot about him as a director. You realize he executive produced twelve seasons of Buffy and Angel. And when you have your own show you can pretty much direct whatever episodes you want. Go watch the following episodes of Buffy: The Body, Once More With Feeling, Restless, Graduation Day pts. 1&2, Becoming pts. 1&2, The Gift, Hush, Doppelgangland, and Who Are You? He probably directed about ten more episodes of Angel, and a handful of Firefly and Dollhouse episodes. And Dr. Horrible.2. I thought Serenity did *look* pretty good. But that's neither here nor there, since you apparently don't know the difference between a DP and a director.3. I agree his strong suit is writing. Then again, I've seen him write and direct more than just one movie.4. Astonishing X-Men, obvi

^ Hey he may be a great TV director. I loved the show Firefly and a lot of other things he's done. But that doesn't mean he will make a great *film* director. And judging from his imdb, it looks like he has only directed one feature film--Serenity. And that film didnt look like a feature, it looked like a TV show on the big screen. And you don't blame the DP for that. Now maybe JW was going for that so the movie would appeal more to Firefly fans. I don't know. Whatever his reasons, it doesn't leave me pumped about the job he will do directing The Avengers. And pointing out that he directed some good episodes of other TV shows (omg he directed an episode of Glee too!!!) doesn't begin to address my concern.Point: I never said it would be bad, I was just wondering aloud about his past effort (singular). So sorry if I stepped on your angel-luvin' nuts, man. PS* Here's a link you might find helpful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_directorPPS* I think thats all I have to say. The '90s taught me many things. Among them, never get in an argument with Buffy fans. [Edited on July 25, 2010 at 2:38 PM. Reason : `` ]
