I'm feeling crotchety tonight after looking at blog after blog with those fucking "toolbar" footer things. Can someone explain to me why the fuck this trend caught on, and when it will die? Even the msnbc.com website has one now.
4/13/2010 10:58:58 PM
Please explain? There are a variety of good uses for a footer.
4/13/2010 11:13:01 PM
i'm talking about this sort of stupid shit:A couple of examples...http://www.orangeinks.com/blog-tips/skysa-add-a-footer-toolbar-to-your-website-or-blog/http://skysa.com/These just happen to be links ABOUT these toolbars while I was searching to find some relevant photos.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 11:20 PM. Reason : also https://bar.meebo.com/][Edited on April 13, 2010 at 11:21 PM. Reason : V go look at one of their stories. the "toolbar" will start floating at the bottom of your browser]
4/13/2010 11:19:51 PM
I'm looking at msnbc.com and I have no idea what you're talking about.edit: Oh, that. It's like 10 pixels, big deal. If it really makes you want to kill yourself: http://noscript.netedit 2: Hell, the msnbc bar even has a link to hide it. [Edited on April 13, 2010 at 11:23 PM. Reason : ]

Good lord, I just wanted to complain about it. That's the reason for the thread... to be crotchety and complain. Get off my lawn.
4/13/2010 11:23:00 PM
wibiya?
4/13/2010 11:24:02 PM
^ YES! that's what it is. it's like web 2.0 crack for every idiot with a blog.
4/13/2010 11:26:01 PM
its what happens when you let dumb people design UIs
4/13/2010 11:34:10 PM
^^LOL. I used it for like 2 weeks. Their tracking tools are quite decent. I thought they were going to be awesome, but ended up quite weak (you couldn't export any of the data - just look at it on their site.)It's now tossed to the wayside. It's sweet for people with 0 skillz.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 11:47 PM. Reason : ^]
4/13/2010 11:47:14 PM
Damn. I must be losing it since this is the first I've seen or heard of toolbar footers. I hope it dies soon, but I'm sure it won't. Most stupid things persist long after they are welcome.
4/14/2010 12:35:59 AM
Yeah, I haven't heard of this either. lol I still don't see it on MSNBC and I had to go to skysa.com to know what it was and what it looked like.
4/14/2010 12:36:53 AM
all you supposed web designers/developers need to get out of your caves more often.this shit has been annoying us web users for a while now...
4/14/2010 1:19:17 AM
oh hay
4/14/2010 8:49:28 AM
not cool, evan.although, in fairness, there's so much wasted space on the layout of TWW that it actually fits here.[Edited on April 14, 2010 at 10:41 AM. Reason : edit]

I don't understand Motoblur. I don't understand the Kin.
4/14/2010 11:03:09 AM
4/14/2010 11:08:21 AM
The UI for Kin looks like a disaster. Like a monkey threw some colors on a screen, and a designer said, "Brilliant!"
4/14/2010 11:15:40 AM
Like I said, man:
4/14/2010 11:20:09 AM
4/14/2010 11:25:43 AM
4/14/2010 11:31:54 AM
i really don't like the toolbars either.i don't really understand the kin or any phone/app/thing that puts all your social networking stuff in one place. what i post on FB and twitter are usually different things, and i don't want everything everywhere all the time.
4/14/2010 11:40:06 AM
4/14/2010 11:54:05 AM
^^ i've seen people use that selective tweets thing for facebook, which is kinda nice. except when you're "selecting" tweets that people still don't care about.
4/14/2010 12:00:51 PM
Not cool, evan.
4/14/2010 12:14:06 PM
WHAT THE FUCK IS AT THE BOTTOM OF MY SCREEN
4/14/2010 12:24:56 PM
EVAN F TW
4/14/2010 12:27:22 PM
Chrome AdBlock FTW!
4/14/2010 12:53:43 PM
4/14/2010 12:58:01 PM
Ironically the wibiya toolbar didn't even load in IE7 that we're locked into on these public PC's Very nice, however.
4/14/2010 1:05:08 PM
doesn't load in IE8 either. atleast not w/ what evan did.
4/14/2010 1:05:52 PM
BATTERIES. When the fuck can I stop having to recharge my electronics so frequently? I'm not talking about battery conditioning or use. I'm talking about the fact that mankind is still relying on AA's, AAA's, and other shit that hasn't advanced significantly in years.
4/16/2010 5:35:21 PM
i LOLed upon loading this thread[Edited on April 16, 2010 at 7:10 PM. Reason : ]

at first, I was like wtf are you doing qntmfred???????
4/18/2010 9:03:50 AM
I hate Windows 7 64 bitNone of my shit works anymore, and now I have to constantly search the internet on how to fix anything since I can't figure it out anymoreand facebook's constant updates can blow my left nut, I have no clue how to do anything on facebook anymore
4/18/2010 9:52:57 AM
1. Ugh damnit evan with your toolbarzz. 2. I'm getting to that point where i just want to buy shit and have it work. I know I could do it myself or build it myself, but at the end of the day it's just easier to let someone else mess with it.
4/18/2010 12:52:56 PM
New one, although it's not a new thing...WHY THE FUCK do DVDs and Blu-Ray discs still have region codes? Enough already!
4/18/2010 1:18:50 PM
I'm beginning to think that gadget bloggers need to hold themselves to standards that are a bit higher than "feces-flinging monkey at a keyboard."
4/20/2010 11:00:33 PM
maybe not a trend, but i hate anything other than .mp3 for music
4/21/2010 9:32:42 AM
the fuck is this toolbar
4/21/2010 9:53:37 AM
4/21/2010 10:50:22 AM
why aren't rechargeable li-ion standard form-factor batteries more common? i ASSUME that they're available, but i've never seen any AAA/AA li-ion batteries that you could throw in a charger (without them exploding or leaking or whatever)i like standards...i like the idea that i can go buy new batteries (rechargeable or not) if my batteries die and i don't have a charger with me (or if they're not rechargeable) and they won't be hard to find or cost an arm and a leg...i like that most of my non-proprietary devices use AAAs instead of AAs, and that i have adapters that will allow me to use AAAs in AA/C/D devicesso why aren't more devices designed to use AAA batteries, in conjunction with the proliferation of rechargeable li-ion batteries?also, any device with a USB port (micro/mini/whatever) should be able to charge the batteries inside of it
4/21/2010 11:41:54 AM
digital TV channels still use the dash system:"Oh hey, turn back to channel 241-dash-2!!"
4/21/2010 1:56:50 PM
WHY THE FUCK is it that when some weird tech thing happens, the media thinks it's necessary to sensationalize it? OMG COPIERS WITH HARD DRIVES ARE GOING TO STEAL YOUR CREDIT CARDZZZZ.
4/22/2010 10:55:11 AM
at this point, i think this entire thread (message_topic.aspx?topic=594391) really needs to be included here. y'all are bitching about a search engine that updated its look. good god, you're going on like it's fucking Facebook.
5/9/2010 7:18:33 PM
Fuck you sonny boy. Back in my day computer fonts were easy on the eyes and classy enough for the ladies.[Edited on May 9, 2010 at 7:30 PM. Reason : And suspend whatever cock gobbler put this footer toolbar in here.]
5/9/2010 7:29:26 PM
Oh really, sonny?[Edited on May 9, 2010 at 7:31 PM. Reason : ^ it was evan, lol]
5/9/2010 7:30:48 PM
That's more like it, boy.
5/9/2010 7:31:28 PM
That damn ribbon in everything Autodesk and Microsoft...really? Does PAINT need a damn ribbon?
5/10/2010 8:38:24 AM
Cell phone towers... lol
5/11/2010 11:57:41 AM
^^at least they added the most basic of features to mspaint to make it ALMOST functional. i mean, before you could barely even zoom in or out
