Going to vegas soon. What are the games with the best odds? I have heard that you should play craps and bet the pass line? Have also heard that blackjack can be one if you play with the strategy card?.....will probably head on down to the sports book as well.

if you're gambling with any intent of not rifling through your bankroll, practice the games online. learn basic strategy for BJ (the little cards they sell for like $2). they'll let you sit at the table with the card but you'll want to at least familiarize yourself with the ins and outs before sitting down. try to find a cheap craps table with not a lot going on, like in the middle of the afternoon, for your first time. busy tables can turn into a cluster and if you're not comfortable enough to catch a shitty dealer when he "forgets" to pay you (which can happen), you're not going to have much fun.it's intimidating the first time you walk up to a table so if you can get to know the subtle nuances of your game of choice (ie 6 deck BJ vs single deck, etc) it'll make you that much more collected when you sit down. personally i play the shit out of blackjack, a little roulette and not a whole lot else.

set a limit and have fun. when you hit your limit, walk away. if you go up double, walk away. drink as many free drinks as possible while playing.

Learn the rules of the games before you walk up and make bets that make you look like an asshole

if you are going to play craps, go to Casino Royale. It has a $3 come/pass bet with 100 times odds. Every other table will have a $10-$25 minimum with 3, 4 or 5 times odds. "True Odds" are the odds paid behind the line, where the casino has the smallest edge. As a result, you want to put as little on the come/pass line (depending if the point is established or not) and as much behind the line as you can afford to gamble and enjoy yourself. Obviously, you need to hit your number once a point is set before the roller rolls a 7. In that case, you'll win the odds.4 & 10 - 2 times odds - bet any amount5 & 9 - 1.5 times odds - must be even amount behind the line/on odds6 & 8 - 6/5 odds - increments of 5 or house gets the edge when there are uneven splitsIf you are learning how to play, just wait til the table craps, play a come bet with a wager behind the line and wait for your one number to hit before 7 hits again. If you win a time or two, then consider playing the pass bet, which is equivalent to the come bet, only you can bet it after a point is set. The dealers will tell you if you need to bet more money to get true odds.

Blackjack (IF you know what you're doing and make all the correct plays) and roulette (depending on how you bet) offer the least risky odds.My theory is that, in addition to always having a statistical edge, the house has the advantage of never going broke. You have the advantage of being able to walk away at a time of your choosing (as long as you don't go broke) instead of having to play all night. In other words, in a game with the odds pretty close to even (potentially roulette or blackjack), you will probably be up sometimes and down sometimes...it's going to fluctuate. Therefore, you can make money if you walk when you're up. The trick is having the discipline to do this.Personally, I prefer to do my gambling in the stock market.

the last bachelor party I went to out in vegas, we packed out a pai gow table and had a blast. a little money goes a long way and if you tip big early, the waitress will keep the drinks flowing. think it was the first time in history a pai gow table didn't have an 80 year old asian lady sitting at it.

if you win a bet on the roulette table, don't take your chips until the dealer has dealt out all the winning chips and removed the marker.i did that and looked like a total n00b
4/17/2010 3:29:29 PM
Pretty sure that roulette has some of the worst odds in the casino, right up there with keno and slots. Blackjack with basic strategy and certain craps bets are the ones that offer the least house edge. No other game will there be only a .6% edge (double odds on the pass line).
4/17/2010 5:23:15 PM
I have read that craps gives you the closest to 50/50 odds. I also found it fun. Granted, I still lost.
4/17/2010 6:05:31 PM
can i get a refund if I lose all my money?

Just a general money saving tip, the ATMs in casinos charge like a $5 fee. So figure out a different way to get your cash! Also a casino ATM will give you the largest denomination of bills available. If you withdraw $200 you'll get two $100 bills. That way you're more likely to plunk it all down on one game. Don't fall for it! Use the change machines to convert yourself down to ones, fives, or tens. You'll bet less so the money will last longer.
4/18/2010 10:48:11 PM
^ get USAA and get the ATM fees reimbursed every month
4/19/2010 9:13:49 AM
^Also useful for strip club ATMs. ATM SURCHARGE REBATE $15.00RE: Roulette. I guess it depends if OP will be playing on a single zero wheel or not. I know AC had double zero (perhaps only because I walked up to the lower limit wheels). Upon further research, it also looks like they only take half on an even money bet wrt 0 or 00, so it's like 2.5% edge. Single wheel w/Euro rules it's like 1.3% so you're right, he could probably find a wheel with pretty even odds.Sidebar: If you're going to chill at a roulette wheel with a buddy, please don't do retarded shit like bet against each other red vs black or even vs odd.

4/19/2010 10:32:20 AM
the only single zero wheels you'll find are $100+ / spin tables, in sections you wont be going into anyways.

Casino Royale is a cesspool but one that you will frequent if you want the best statistical advantagePersonally, I prefer to take the slightly lesser odds and do my wagering in a locale that doesn't smell like urine, mildew and rubbing alcoholIf you're there on vacation, skip it

The last time I checked, blackjack has the best odds. Learning how and when to double down and split are your two advantages over the dealer. I think it's completely foolish to insure anything less then a 20. And if there's an option to surrender, don't do it, play your cards. If you're unsure of what to do, ask the person sitting to the right of you, they are the one that gets screwed over if you hit/pass incorrectly. It only takes one person to screw over the whole table, and if you have a bad egg at your table, sit out until they leave or just move to another table. If you ever get a 50 cent chip, toss it to the dealer as a tip and don't play it, makes for more confusing math. Let It Ride has some of the worst odds, skip that game.Don't sit at a table situated near an exit, those are cold tables. On the contrary, the best slot machines to play are ones near the main entrance. They are programmed with better odds, with the idea that the winners migrate into the casino and spend more money. This was just my experience, but the only slot machines I seemed to consistently hit on were the ones in the airport terminal. In general, if you just don't know what to do and you' don't mind looking like a n00b (as opposed to throwing away your bet), ASK THE DEALER! They get paid no matter what you do with your bet, but happy gamblers tip more and come back to spend more.
