Fiancee going to dental school at University of Louisville. Relocating. Anyone have any experience with the area? I've heard it is similar to Raleigh only a bit more fun on account of the 2 week party that leads up to the Derby.

The best part is that all the locals will still love red and hate blue

my wife is from loo-ah-vul and the first year we were together she still lived there. its a great city and i would agree that its not too different from raleigh...just bigger. do you have any specific questions?

Been there, done that. Left raleigh with a wife...went to Lville so she could go to dental school. Moved back 2 years later divorced. The city is great, just a huge urban sprawl. 4th Street Live, Bardstown Road...its pretty fucking cool. If I had to leave Raleigh, Lville would be in my top 5 places to go. The dental school has some major issues. Drugs are rampant. They like to have "socials" all the time...so if you have a full time job, its gonna be rough. Many of the students get caught up in the party life, but some don't. If your fiancee skips out on the dental school social gatherings more often than not, things will be much better off for you two. ----Just my opinion.

I'm from Louisville as well. I love the city, plenty to do no matter what you like & neighborhoods vary quite a bit depending on where you settle. Let me know if you have specific questions about areas of town, food, parks, nightlife, Derby or anything else; feel free to PM. Only thing is, not that familiar with U of L or the Dental School. Great city, just try not to venture over the river to Indiana unless you have to.

^there are some good places in indiana on the river...don't know about much beyond that though.

^ you're right, I guess I just don't like Indiana as a whole...New Albanian is nice

Louisville is one of the more underrated mid-sized big cities out there. I was surprised...

i went to highschool in louisville and my parents still live there (prospect) - it's a great place to livei'd say in general it's a more fun city to live in than raleigh but not just due to the derbyupdate the thread once you are looking for places to live

KentuckianaLouisville isn't any bigger than Raleigh, but it is more urban/industrial. The population is misleading since they have a consolidated city/county, which is in fact smaller in population than Wake County. It seems more Midwestern than Southern but influenced by both. Obviously a river and more tornadoes.

Thanks for all the great advice, and the words of warning about the dental school. I know the job situation is bad everywhere, I'm just hoping I can find something out there within a few months. Currently I'm a political consultant and managing a campaign in Asheville. I don't know how political the city is, but I'm guessing a career change is imminent.

My friend's wife goes there for Composition. It's a sweet area.

does anyone know of any decent apartments near the Louiville law school? Or any good locations to start looking? It doesn't seem like there are many apartment options like we have in the triangle. I'm moving the end of July.

Moving on Tuesday. I am going to be looking for a job. Have been a political consultant for the past 2 years (P.R./Marketing and strategic communications type stuff). Anyone know good companies to look for work in Louisville, or better yet, have connections?
