Earthdogg posted this in another thread, apparently indicating a "liberal lean" in this forum. Frankly, I disagree. In an attempt to actually get some empirical data to definitively answer this question, please answer the following survey:You are a:A. Libertarian -B. Republican -C. Independent -D. Democrat - GodE. Other -

Yep, that's exactly why I like him.

^^That would have been a terrible classification. What are we talking about, political ideology or party affiliation? They aren't the same. Ideologies vary substantially within the Republican and Democratic parties. Republican is not an ideology, though.I'm a libertarian (note the lower case l) and an independent.[Edited on March 26, 2010 at 1:48 PM. Reason : ]

Jesus Christ, you people complicate things so much.
3/26/2010 1:52:54 PM
No, you simplify things too much.
3/26/2010 1:56:14 PM
conservative libertarian
3/26/2010 2:02:21 PM
You'd think TWW is "left-leaning" if you listened to conservative talk radio all day. If you have been literally anywhere outside of the south, you won't hold this opinion.

Another flaw in your experiment: Few will admit to being a Republican. They will say Independent or Conservative or something else. But then you will find those same people shitting on Obama or frothing about gun laws in another thread.
3/26/2010 3:37:21 PM
^Exactly. My boss opposes the healthcare bill, thinks we're headed down the road to socialism, voted for McCain, is pro military, Christian, and says he is an independent.[Edited on March 26, 2010 at 3:38 PM. Reason : ]

just because you disagree with Obama, doesnt make you republican

*checks off every check box for republican issues**claims he is an independent*
3/26/2010 3:41:42 PM
The point being that the Republican label is toxic b/c they have been acting like idiots lately.
^^All hail to Obama

it's embarrassing to be a republican these days. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to associated with a party that stands a very real chance of putting forward sarah palin as their next presidential candidate.I'm a registered independent, but I have voted for primarily libertarian candidates (when available) in the last two elections. I don't really post much in the Soap Box, though.

fuck off with your old as dirt thread, especially the way you are handling ityou arent just tallying up peoples responses, which would be fineyou already have your mind made up and you're essentially just jacking off to claming people are republicansthis is a perfect example of why The Soap Box is 100% garbage
3/26/2010 3:52:28 PM
It's embarrassing to be a Republican or a Democrat. If you're blindly accepting whatever your party masters tell you to, then you should be ashamed. Politicians of all stripes have fucked us over. Stop thinking that it's just "the other guys" that are the problem.
3/26/2010 3:52:39 PM
^^I've tallied everything everyone has said so far.
3/26/2010 3:53:37 PM
Really, I think TWW does have a leftleaning bias, but look at the demographics. TWW is composed of college educated dudes age 18-30. Don't be surprised if your average soap boxer voted Obama in 2008.Really, I am surprised the board isn't **more** liberal than it is.
3/26/2010 3:55:16 PM
yeah you have but you're also judging peoplewhatever, i'm not gonna shit up your shitty thread anymorehave a good weekend
3/26/2010 3:55:38 PM
The thread is relatively pointless, mainly because it's based on a statement from Earthdogg. The Far-Right has such a large persecution complex that any voice against them is magnified to a flood of people trying to drown out their voices.Anyone loud advocate for the Right is going to naturally perceive the Soap Box as being overrun with dirty liberals, even though it plainly isn't. Granted that it slightly shifts back and forth depending on the day's issues, but overall the Soap Box is pretty balanced in it's insanity.
3/26/2010 3:57:05 PM
my views are more complex than the common political labels can describe. so... e?
3/26/2010 4:00:14 PM
3/26/2010 4:01:14 PM
Another point of contention I see with God's original premise is that even from the title he talked about sampling for a "liberal lean" and then only gave us choices between party affiliations.
3/26/2010 4:02:03 PM
The better question is which type of error do you find acceptable, Type I or Type II?In the first, you fail to reject the null hypothesis when you should have (you help everyone, even those that don't deserve it for fear of leaving someone out that does.)In the second, you reject the null hypothesis when you shouldn't (right leaning - you oppose helping those that don't deserve it, therefore miss opportunities to help people that sincerely do).You can break most social policies down into these two groupings, and they are highly correlated with our prominent political parties. So which error is more acceptable to you?[Edited on March 26, 2010 at 5:28 PM. Reason : (and type III errors, asking the wrong questions. You can choose that too)]
3/26/2010 5:26:25 PM
conservative libertarian. I agree with Republicans until religious issues like abortion and stem cells get involved.
3/26/2010 5:34:22 PM
We already had the self identify as right/left/whatever leaning thread like 3 months ago and it was nearly break even on the numbers on both sides. But there were plenty of complaints because some people considered themselves left leaning on some issues, right leaning on others, and had other thoughts on other issues. So I think the party affiliation tally might be more interesting because it hasn't been done as recently, and because while it is over simplifying things, there is no ambiguity as to what party you are registered with right now.
