not that it was ever really worth a damn... but i think this year leaves no doubt that the NIT is only around to sell tickets.

lolBut to respond, if you're referring to UNC's inclusion AND their being given a 4 seed, yeah, I'd probably agree with you.[Edited on March 15, 2010 at 8:55 AM. Reason : ]

I mean the old fart who runs the NIT on the NIT selection show says "only expand the NCA tourney if it is the right thing for college bball dont do it for the $"this is just after he includes UNC and UConn in his bracket stating how great the tradition ($ draw) it brings to the tournament and how they had to invite them....what a joke.[Edited on March 15, 2010 at 9:15 AM. UConn is 64 in the RPI, which is higher than 60% of the field... They definitely should be in this tourney and not just because of money. UNC on the other hand...[Edited on March 15, 2010 at 9:20 AM. Reason : x]

Actually it was around to sell tickets back before they guaranteed the non-at-large bid worthy small conference regular season champions bids, and any ACC team with a .500 overall record was in. The last couple of years the NIT has only been around for "fairness" and have lost money. Now they are adding UNC as a 4 seed to offset the money lost on those teams.
3/15/2010 9:27:09 AM
which is funny because unc fans didn't even show up to the acc tournament

I thought this was pretty outrageous, too. It reminds me of Notre Dame football a few years ago. I think that if you are one of those schools, you go to the postseason no matter what, as long as there are no concrete rules to keep you out.

^Never underestimate the size and commitment of the UNC Wal-Marters. I live in the Triad, and I can assure you they're EVERYWHERE

It'll be interesting to see how many folks show up for that game.Carmichael's only got 8,000 seats to begin with.
3/15/2010 4:50:05 PM
^I think thats why the game is in Carmichael...give fans a reason to go. When was the last time their mens team played in Carmichael? Plus if people dont show up, then its only, for example, 3000 empty seats rather than 17,000 empty seats.

bawww

The main reason that the game is in Carmichael is because of the renovations to the Dean Dome which started after their last home game.

It turns out I'm going to be one of those losers at Carmichael today.....at least it won't be my money spent on the ticket
3/16/2010 9:39:59 AM
if the nit wants a big money team it is THERE RIGHT to choose one. this is a business. without ratings theres no basketball bc theres no money.

fuck unc. as long as they lose ill be okay with them making the tournament though. i think a 16-17 record looks better than a 16-16 record.with that being said, if they win i will be furious
3/16/2010 11:58:07 AM
^not if they lose to miss state. 17-17=16-16
3/16/2010 12:02:38 PM
She's right. UNC has to win two games to finish above .500 and lose one to finish below .500.
3/16/2010 12:04:50 PM
wow, a 16-16 team and fucking W&M got a primetime game on espn and at UNC. at least they're selling tickets and commercials.]

3/16/2010 10:15:37 PM

3/16/2010 10:23:19 PM
They announced here at carmichael that we won and no one booed. I actually heard cheers...maybe that was the other pack fans.
