We better get some serious poll skewing going...
3/14/2010 10:06:30 PM
votedPOLL SKEWERS UNITE!
3/14/2010 10:20:17 PM
voted.those are definitely my 2 favorite of all time
3/14/2010 10:33:31 PM
Laettner because I remember it happening and I was alive when it happenedIts the 9/11 vs Pearl Harbor argument
3/14/2010 10:34:46 PM
UNITE!!!!!!!!!!i've already voted thrice
3/14/2010 10:36:59 PM
Voted! Our buzzer beater was way more significant. For one it won us the national title (I know Duke doesn't go on to win it without Laettner's shot, but ours actually won the national title game). Two it wasn't your ordinary buzzer beater. And three it helped us beat Phi Slamma Jamma which had two of the NBA's Top 50 players of all-time.
3/14/2010 10:45:00 PM
voted. hope we win but i won't be watching because i hate that show.
3/14/2010 10:46:27 PM
Voted but we almost certainly won't win.
3/14/2010 10:49:59 PM
if you look at the percentages in previous rounds...is Laettner's shot that much better...or did we just jump in the poll skewing a few rounds later than Duke fans?
3/14/2010 10:53:30 PM
^^^ you hate SportsNation?!?!?!are you American?
3/14/2010 11:01:12 PM
I voted for NC State, but the other one was just as good if not better because it was a win/lose shot since there was no foul.
3/14/2010 11:01:13 PM
^^he probably just hates Cowherd
3/14/2010 11:10:37 PM
i dont really get the hype on the laettner shot. it was a jump shot from the free throw line. the inbound pass was more impressive.
3/14/2010 11:15:38 PM
It comes down to whether or not you think a great fadeaway bucket by one of the winningest college players of all time is better than a Cinderella team miraculously beating a huge favorite who had 2 of the top 50 NBA players of all time on their roster.Either way, we all go to NC State. You know who to vote for.
3/14/2010 11:23:07 PM
^ this.
3/14/2010 11:28:54 PM
I remember seeing Laettner's shot win a similar contest before. It may have been a best damn sports show countdown or something like that.
3/15/2010 12:04:45 AM
Miraculous shot to win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP > Miraculous shot to win an Elite 8 game.
3/15/2010 12:39:21 AM
best buzzer beater thread ever!
3/15/2010 9:26:09 AM
i voted for Laettner's shot because it was a great childhood memory.
3/15/2010 9:58:14 AM
it's sad when our own people can't vote for lorenzo charles.
3/15/2010 9:59:13 AM
If anyone on here is not voting for Lorenzo'z put back, then go fuck yourself. Seriously this is an NC State board and you probably went to / currently attend / or dropped out of State at some point. Who gives a shit if you actually watch Laettner's shot live? Big fucking deal.
3/15/2010 10:53:35 AM
just thought i'd mix it up this time
3/15/2010 10:56:42 AM
Go fuck myself for voting something that I remember happening vs something I'm suppose to feel a part of by association simply because I enrolled at the same school 21 years after it happend? Go fuck myself because I'm basing the answer on my personal experience rather than the TWW caveman hivemind of Duke = Bad and State = Good?Go fuck myself because I refuse to base my State fandom in events that occured so long ago that none of the current roster or myself was even an embryo when it occured?Yeah, lets blindly push everything State. If you waver in your support of everything red and white for even an instant than you're a fucking disgrace [Edited on March 15, 2010 at 11:01 AM. Reason : x]
3/15/2010 11:00:47 AM
exactly, go fuck yourself ya prick ya
3/15/2010 11:07:24 AM
Let's not even mention that was the game Laettner stepped on Timberlake's chest. Intentionally. Had that happened today, he'd have been thrown out and suspended a couple of games. If he were playing for State, there would be NCAA sanctions and assault charges.A lot of people argue he should've never been in the game to make that shot. Doesn't change the fact that he did and it won the game. That said, I voted for Lorenzo cause that was waaaay bigger than Laettner's shot.
3/15/2010 11:12:49 AM
^ amen. people seem to forget that laettner was the ultimate prick.also, national championship upset >>>>>> elite 8 game. seriously, i think the kansas shot two years ago was more impressive than laettner's. it's just that there's a shitload of dook fanboy drones out there that have somehow inflated the significance of that shot. oh, and if you go to state yet still have any sort of allegiance for duke, you're hopeless.

its all relativeI'm weighing personal experience more than most of youI suppose you all think Gone with the Wind is the greatest movie of all time, and think FRD was the greatest president, and still get teary eyed when you think the Greensboro Sit inLive in the present[Edited on March 15, 2010 at 11:29 AM. Reason : x]
3/15/2010 11:25:29 AM
Be honestFRD was a good one
3/15/2010 11:30:50 AM
If I'm living in the present, Evan Turner's shot to beat Michigan was the greatest shot in history.
3/15/2010 11:32:58 AM
Unfortanately, the question specifically asked for the best NCAA Tournament shotI just wish people were capable of putting their loyalties aside and answering the question, as a good colleague of mine here likes to say, OBJECTIVELY
3/15/2010 11:35:54 AM
I just polled my office.5 @ random.4 for Lorenzo's shot1 for Laettner'sNone were from NC State.
3/15/2010 11:39:49 AM
Objectively: A Cinderella story buzzer beater to beat the one of the best teams in the nation for the national championship is better than two good teams playing in the elite 8 game. Name on the jersey of all 4 teams doesnt matter.
3/15/2010 11:42:25 AM
Its a matter of opinionIts fine to think the Charles shot is superiorBut don't think its superior simply because its an NC State play, like many here are saying to doThink its superior because it is the better, more important play, which you can definitely argue it isThats all I ask
3/15/2010 11:46:11 AM
^truly
3/15/2010 11:47:55 AM
well then you shouldnt choose just because you were alive for the duke shot. choose it because it was a more meaningful shot and a better buzzer beater. follow your own criteria and not be on both sides of the fence.
3/15/2010 11:48:00 AM
My main argument against Charles' shot was that it was a broken play and a fluke airball. If the shot hits the rim at all, they lose. The Laettner play was a brilliantly executed 3/4 court heave, dribble and turnaround jumper. I'm siding with the execution of a play here rather than just a 1 in a million happenstance play where State was more lucky than good. Its debatable, thus the reason for having the poll in the first place, but thats my take.
3/15/2010 11:55:33 AM
no thats not your main argument because the first thing you said was it was because you were alive for the duke shot and then defended it multiple times. this is the first time with this defense, so it looks like once you got called out you decided to back track. just stick to your argument and tell everyone else to screw off, its your vote. but i still am 100% for nc state shot.
3/15/2010 12:00:36 PM
Pearl Harbor, Gone with the Wind, FDR...50-60 years before you were bornCharles' shot...a few years before you were bornyour analogies are terrible
3/15/2010 12:04:21 PM
Nice catch, you got me
3/15/2010 12:04:42 PM
If laettner was a step slower getting into position, or the dude guarding him got a finger on the pass, duke loses. the what if game goes both ways. When it comes to great buzzer beaters, luck is always a factor. The end result is what's important. I realize you are just trying to be a contrarian troll, but your shit is weak.

3/15/2010 12:05:26 PM
Jaybee is a WV fan?
3/15/2010 12:07:55 PM
Listen, folks, if this wasn't up for debate, and the Charles shot was clearly superior, why would ESPN bother running a poll in the first place? I'm willing to bet that the Laettner shot wins the National vote by at least 10 percent
3/15/2010 12:09:00 PM
ill take that
3/15/2010 12:11:11 PM
^^It's sports, so it most certainly is up for debate, and completely subjective. what's not up for debate is the fact that your reasoning is nonsensical.
