Terrible news for Oregon

Masoli is suspended for the entire season after pleading guilty to felony burglary today.

They would have been right in the title hunt this year.

nice. Now Tennessee MIGHT have a chance against them. Doubt it though, because they will both have new QBs now and Tennessee lost a LOT more this off season.

"Big Ten should take lesson from ACC's expansion woes"

The perfect example in that regard is the ACC. The league’s acquisition of three Big East teams in 2005 and 2006 so rearranged the landscape that the governor of Virginia at time — Mark Warner — ultimately emerged as the primary power broker.

Duke and North Carolina, the two schools that account for about 99% of the ACC’s reputation as a basketball kingpin, weren’t wild about the idea of adding so much as a 10th team, much less zooming to 12.

Schedules had to be revamped across the board, travel expenses in minor sports soared, and any semblance of a “conference family” was forever abandoned.

So much ill will was created among the old Big East clan that pre-raid relationships will never be restored.

At the end of the turmoil, the ACC wound up a weaker basketball conference, roughly the same in football and with a baseball “championship” tournament that prohibits four teams every year from even competing.

Kind of ridiculous he's making that much, especially considering he hasn't won a championship as a head coach.

NCAA will rule on USC Friday per Colin Cowherd

He said they were lumping the basketball and football programs together with their ruling, which can't be good. Apparently, the NCAA will be informing USC of the ruling tomorrow in private.

Lane Kiffin has always been a fucking douchbag and it speaks even more negatively on the USC Athletics department that they would go from "Pete Carroll" to some hand-me-down from the Raiders.

I hope USC fails big time this season in football! Cant fucking stand kiffin!

Masoli dismissed from the Oregon football team. What a fuck up.

The article doesn't mention it, but College Football Live said the reason for the dismissal was he was cited for marijuana possession.

Wow, that guy is delusional

I see a lot of resemblance in the way that we used to have a lot of hype with those teams under Chuck, but could never turn the corner. I don't see how they do this year with Yates or the other guy.

It's true that their defense will have a lot of picks this year. However, we put 31, 41, and 28 on that supposedly great defense the last 3 years. Color me skeptical.

It didn't really seem like Tim Hall was the one sucking off UNC, he was just quoting Phil Steele. It's also a beyond ridiculous assertion that UNC could contend for a national title this year.

they might have a top 25 WR unit

but they also have Yates throwing to them

so they don't even have a top 50 passing attack

I just don't understand why people would go out on a limb and predict anything worthwhile for UNC football. When they had Mack Brown and were having legitimately excellent seasons they never won the ACC, much less a national championship. But after two years of 8-5 (and three losses to State, LOL) they're gonna run the table? Come on.

They start with LSU and GT. They haven't figured out how to beat RW, their offense isn't any good and their defense should be very good, but I still feel that it is getting more hype than it deserves after losing to NCSU and Pitt to end their season last year.

If UNC's WR unit is Top 25, then ours is Top 10.

I kind of hope that Yates gets injured in the LSU game, and Brenner comes in and sucks it up since so many UNC fans think that he's worlds better than Yates.

Two Volunteers charged in bar fight
By Chris Low
ESPN.com

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Police are continuing to investigate an early morning bar brawl Friday allegedly involving a number of Tennessee football players that left an off-duty Knoxville police officer unconscious after being kicked repeatedly while he was on the ground.
Freshman receiver Da'Rick Rogers, one of the Volunteers' most heralded signees under first-year coach Derek Dooley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
Also, sophomore safety Darren Myles Jr. was arrested and charged with assaulting a University of Tennessee police officer, as well as resisting arrest and evading arrest, according to an affidavit.
Rogers, 18, was released on $1,000 bond later Friday morning, and Myles, 19, was released on $2,000 bond. It was not clear if either player had an attorney.

ESPN.com's Chris Low writes about all things SEC in his conference blog.

• Blog network:
College Football Nation

DeBusk said he anticipates there will be more arrests once police are able to speak with Knoxville Police Department officer Robert Capouellez, who remains in a Knoxville hospital and is undergoing treatment for a head wound.
A second victim, whose name has not been released, also was sent to the hospital and was being treated for multiple injuries.
Debusk said Capouellez, 24, was hit in the head while trying to break up a fight in Bar Knoxville, which is located on the Cumberland Avenue strip near campus. The fight had spilled outside, and Capouellez was knocked to the ground and kicked more than once before the suspect ran away.
"We've heard that anywhere from seven to 10 people were involved in the incident inside the bar, and we believe the majority of them are associated with the UT football team," DeBusk said.
Police have reached out to Dooley, who was out of town. A school spokeswoman said a statement from the university would be released later Friday.
An affidavit regarding Myles' arrest stated that a university officer identified himself to Myles at Bar Knoxville, after which Myles fled on foot.
When the officer caught up to Myles and attempted to place him into custody, Myles broke free from the officer's grip and struck him in the face. Myles was later taken into custody by the Knoxville Police Department, which turned him over to university police.
This is the second time Myles has been in trouble. A projected starter this coming season, Myles was charged April 18 with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public intoxication following an incident at another nightspot near campus. Dooley handled Myles' punishment for that arrest internally, though that criminal case is still pending.
Among the other Tennessee players police have questioned or plan to question in connection with the brawl are defensive tackle Montori Hughes, receiver Denarius Moore and safety Janzen Jackson. None of the three has been charged.
The Vols may end up having more than just legal problems, too. Sandy Morton, co-owner of Bar Knoxville, told The Chattanooga Times Free Press that the Tennessee football players received "VIP status" at their bar and didn't have to pay a cover.
NCAA rules stipulate that athletes aren't allowed to receive any extra benefits or special arrangements such as discounts at restaurants or bars.
Morton also told The Times Free Press that they typically don't have any issues when the Tennessee football players come in, but on this occasion, they had a problem with another patron at the bar.
"I don't know what happened, but several of the guys started beating up the other customer," Morton said. "I want to guess there was seven to 10 guys beating up this one gentleman. All the security then rushed in and were trying to break it up. My husband saw them picking up bar stools and starting to swing them. We got them out the door with security."
Chris Low covers the SEC for ESPN.com. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Hate to say it but I find myself wondering... if UNC did somehow escape this season undefeated would they even be invited to the National Championship game?

On the one hand I really don't see any ACC team being invited to a NC game any time soon, regardless of their W-L record. On the other hand it's UNC, I could see them picking a 10-2 UNC over an undefeated Boise State for example.

Makes sense. If they are banned from post season play there's really no point in ranking them.

I see the opposite... Assuming there aren't two other undefeated BCS conference schools out there, I guarantee that ANY undefeated ACC school would get into the NC game, no doubt at all.

I agree. Unless Alabama, Texas, or USC (oh wait, n/m! ) goes undefeated also, I can see an undefeated ACC team going.

Although the 2 loss LSU team that went to the NC game still baffles me.

To their defense, FSU was still in their dominant years at the time. Most teams in the country would have had a hard time winning the ACC in that era. The ACC hasn't had a team like that in 5 years...so the conference is pretty much up for grab these days.

I got in on Heather Dinich's live chat:

Quote :
"Mike (Winston-Salem)
UNC is getting WAY too much hype this off-season. Some analysts are throwing them into the national title contender mix? Please. Yeah, the defense should be good. But good QB play is required to be a contender, and we've all seen what TJ Yates is capable of. Given their coastal division schedule, I can't see them getting more than 9 wins total. In fact, I see at least 6 toss-up games. What are your thoughts?"

Boyd isn't as good a passer right now as Parker is, but my Clemson buddies raved over him and weren't too worried about the QB situation with him waiting in the wings if Parker did decide to leave.

They compared him to Dantzler type of player.
