I might be moving back to Charlotte after graduation but the city has changed so much I don't know where the good and affordable places are.I wouldn't mind somewhere close to the Arboretum, but is that a good idea?
3/12/2010 12:27:54 AM
Do you know where you're going to be working and what type of crowd you want to be around? Arboretum is ok, but it's going to be a majority of families. If you live in that neighborhood at the corner of Providence and 51, there are some young people that live in the condos though.I live in Southpark and like it a lot. For young people, i'd recommend the following:- Southend- Dilworth- Uptown- Plaza Midwood- Southpark
3/12/2010 12:31:30 AM
I'll be working on Providence Rd, sort of near the intersection at Fairview. South Park would be pretty close, but I'm worried it would be too pricey. What is the rent like?I should also mention that my parents and a lot of my friends are in Weddington, so I'll be heading out there frequently. I wouldn't mind being somewhere in between, which is why I thought of Arboretum first. [Edited on March 12, 2010 at 1:06 AM. Reason : -]

live in that fucking castle at providence and sharon amity.i saw that a month or two ago while i was driving around charlotte looking at the houses i grew up in. holy fucking shit.
3/12/2010 1:23:39 AM
My parents live in Providence Country Club (not member, hate that shit), and I just bought a house of Albemarle Road. No idea for renting, but I know south park area is going to be $$$.

^^that's a church...I wonder what their reaction would be to a Jew knocking on the door and asking if there is a room for rent.
3/12/2010 1:48:32 AM
mY PARENTS LIVE IN SOUTH CHRALOTTE NEAR THE CARMEL 51 AREA. ITS PRETTY FLY BUT THE BAR SEEN IS A LITTLE MORE "HOOD" THAN IT USED TO BE. BUT YOU CAN ALWAYS HOP THELIGHT RAIL DOWN TOWN AND GET KIDNAPPED FROM bUCKHEAD

I hear Charlotte has its own Flying Saucer, is that true?
3/12/2010 3:47:48 AM
That is true, as do many other cities.

I prefer the flying saucer here in Charlotte over the Raleigh saucer.I live in Highland Creek - it is pretty affordable and the largest planned neighborhood in Charlotte. The bad - its about 2 miles from Concord Mills. The good - you have 4 huge swimming pools, gym, parks, greenways, golf course, restaurants.....
3/12/2010 8:57:04 AM
If you're going to be working at Fairview and Providence then my neighborhood would be a good place to live. Look up Bennington Woods, streets are Clavell Lane and Gray Gate Lane. I would also say look at Strawberry Hill at the corner of Fairview/Sardis and Providence. I know that a lot of people live near there when first moving to Charlotte, it's in walking distance to a great Thai place, Fresh Market, Rite Aid, Red Rocks and a couple other little places.

Almost anywhere down West Blvd. would be your best bet.

i'm looking for an area that isn't college-town (i want to avoid loud parties) but doesn't have small children all over the place either. Are there any apartment complexes that attract mainly young professionals?
3/13/2010 12:46:01 AM
hidden valley FTW!

There are a lot of good houses for rent between Park and South, Woodlawn and East. It's a solid location. South is a little ghetto, Park is a little fancy. You can find plenty of places between the two that are pretty good. I live there now and haven't had any complaints. There's the redneck house down the street who sit on their front porch and drink beer too much. There are the lesbians next door (nurse and landscaper). There's the young professional across the street. Great location. Close to the light rail line, close to Freedom Park, close to a couple of grocery stores, close to the Dilworth/East Blvd area that seems to be popular for young professionals. Easy access to the Park/Fairview area. (Shit, I just realized you said Providence/Fairview, not Park. So that's another 10 minutes from your work.)Marsh, Melbourne, Hartford, Auburn all have plenty of places for rent. They probably average $800 for a 2 bedroom house with a fenced in backyard.
3/14/2010 9:19:38 PM
To be more specific I'm working at the Jewish Community Center, any of you who have driven up and down Providence enough times should know where it is.I'll most likely be on my own so an apartment would probably be better than renting a house.

If I had to move to Charlotte, I'd live in Huntersville or Harrisburg. But I like the quiet life.
3/15/2010 2:17:50 AM
Knowing that, you should definitely live at Strawberry Hill to start with. Or Camden Fairview:http://apartments.camdenliving.com/charlotte-nc-apartments/camden-fairview/AptPropertyDetail.aspxhttp://www.strawberryhillapts.com/home.htm

Im not sure about Harrisburg, but I wouldn't say Huntersville is the quiet life.maybe once upon a time but not anymore
3/15/2010 10:24:49 AM
^harrisburg still is somewhat. Huntersville and Cornelius have almost overbuilt themselves and the traffic is horrible.
3/15/2010 11:34:24 AM
Back and forth from Huntersville to uptown Charlotte would be a deal killer for me. No way I'd move there no matter how nice it is if I had to go to work and back anywhere between 6 - 8:30am and 4 - 6:30pm.[Edited on March 15, 2010 at 12:16 PM. Reason : *]

Considering I'm a northern Virginia commuter that grew up around terrible traffic, I suppose I'm numb to the issue of traffic. Plus compared to the dc metro area, huntersville might be a little overcrowded but I neverthought it was unbearable by any means.

Don't know anything about this place, but - http://www.arboretumapts.net/Also - search for apartments in 28270, $650 max, studios or 1br - http://www.apartments.com/Results.aspx?page=results&stype=zip&zip=28270&prvpg=5&Rent_Minimum=0&Rent_Maximum=650&studio=1&onebdrm=1[Edited on March 15, 2010 at 1:34 PM. ^I'll definitely be looking into the Arboretum area, the one you posted looks great price and location wise.
3/15/2010 1:45:02 PM
Look into the apartments/condos north of east blvd and between scott and kenilworth (i think camden leases them). The JCC would be a short drive and those units are really nice. Not sure about the price though...

I wish I could move back to Charlotte...
3/17/2010 9:05:10 PM
I'm in Charlotte this week looking around. just got back from visiting a friend who lives down Park Rd, it seemed like a nice area to look into.

3/18/2010 2:56:11 AM
one area of park road is overcome during the summer months with a bad sewage stinch. I believe it's right there where park road intersects with Tyvola/Fairview. If you are coming from 77 those apartments on the left have to be ruined by it.
3/18/2010 8:03:39 AM
It's actually not that bad. I live at Park Rd. and Archdale. It's a water processing facility, never noticed the smell to be unbareable.
3/18/2010 8:33:36 AM
It's actually right off the Tyvola side right at Park. The smell is pretty damned bad once in a while, but most times I don't notice it driving by there twice a day.[Edited on March 18, 2010 at 9:58 AM. Reason : *]

I have some friends that live at the other end of Marsh near South blvd. They love it because of the short walk to Mac's.
3/18/2010 10:29:02 AM
We are going to visit my fiance's parents this weekend. They live in Myers Park and I really like that area.
3/18/2010 10:35:03 AM
If you like myers park, you'll LOVE hidden valley !!
3/18/2010 11:15:48 AM
hot damn I wouldn't want to live anywhere within the 485/85 area living in Kannapolis suits me perfectly
3/18/2010 1:09:49 PM
^^ HVKings represent!
3/18/2010 1:19:49 PM
^^i refuse to be anywhere near kannapolis or concord. race days are a bitch.the quail hollow area is looking really good right now. i wouldn't mind being somewhere between there and Olde Providence.
3/18/2010 2:18:40 PM
racedays aren't bad. you just have to know how to navigate the area. plus, it's not that hard to stay home for an entire saturday or sunday and miss it completely
3/18/2010 4:41:11 PM
race days are like 2-3 weekends out of the yearbasing your decision on that is extremely shortsighted[Edited on March 18, 2010 at 5:05 PM. Reason : that said, Kannapolis sucks balls regardless]
