I think we needed a win tonight to get in anyway, but some of the top seeded teams are probably going to get into the NCAAs so that will open up some spots.

it would be official if the selection committee put out real time updates of who would be in if it ended right now.

I'm just trying to point out that theoretically, a 2 seed in this could not even make it and people are bitching about where we are, who is barely in and how miami will jump up like its a real time list.

NIT-ology isn't Joe Lunardi.

And Quinnipiac got in because they won their regular season and los tin the tournament. The NIT automatically takes teams that won their regular season and don't get an invite to the NCAA.

I hope we get to play ASU at ASU and State beats the Fighting Herbivores by 15 or so. As Lowe is giving Sendek the postgame handshake, he needs to be mic'd up so we can all hear, and say "they don't like you in Raleigh." Then he needs to bust out laughing hysterically.

We could finish off this magical night if the team and coaches all met at center court immediately after the handshakes and broke it down g-funk style while the speakers piped in "JAMMIN ON THE HOT."

Herb is such a dork, he'd probably respond by saying "if it weren't for your championship ring, they wouldn't like you either!"

- solidly in
- on the bubble, in
- automatic bid, in
- on the nit bubble, likely CBI or College Insider tournament bids

FRIDAY 3/12/2010 UPDATE
So, why do I have Rhode Island as my last NCAA at large team? Well, right now I see there being 1 bid to be distributed amongst the following teams: Miss St., Rhode Island, Memphis, Minnesota, Illinois, Dayton, and St. Louis. Of those 7 teams: Memphis has no games left to improve their resume; Minnesota and Illinois likely need to win 1 more game, and are steep underdogs in their respective matchups; Dayton needs to beat Xavier, where they are underdogs; St. Louis likely needs to win two more games; Mississippi St. has what essentially amounts to an even matchup against Florida. That leaves Rhode Island who is favored to get a decent win against St. Louis. Given how the bubble has collapsed in recent days, I think a win here gets URI in, and I think they have the best chance of any of those teams of getting a quality win.

More bad news for NIT bubble squads: Jackson St. lost in the SWAC tourney (last night, duh). Kent St. loses in the MAC tourney and snatches up the 8th automatic bid of the year. Five potential NIT bid stealers remain in play: UCSB (BW), Morgan St. (MEAC), Lehigh (PAT), Sam Houston St. (Slnd), Utah St. (WAC).

The way the new NIT rules are designed, there is a very narrow corridor for an ACC team to miss the NCAA cutoff yet still make the NIT. This is also why the NIT is bleeding money since the NCAA took it over, and one of the reasons the NCAA would just assume expand the NCAA Tournament field.

That said, pull for GT and NC State tonight (even if GT would just bump another team down to the NIT).
