I have a 2005 VW Jetta about 60K miles on it now.Brakes are starting to squeal. Do I need to take it in to stealership or is this a DIY job where I can take off the tire/wheel and clean off the brake disc myself.

You will most likely need new pads, and if you wait much longer rotors as well. Cleaning won't do anything...

With the VW you need new rotors as well. They are thin from the factory and aren't good past the first set of pads.I can do this for you, or walk you through it for a TON cheaper than the dealership. Probably 1/4-1/3 of the cost, parts included.

^Yeah, this guy knows VW's. You should hire him and watch/help. It is a do it yourself job, but yourselves may vary.

Brakes are one of those things that you can't really put on the backburner like wiper blades or muffler bearings.
