I think the "Seinfeld Curse," where all the stars of the show have had limited or no success on TV after that show, just shows that the true genius behind the Seinfeld sitcom was Larry David.

i hear you - it's sad that seinfeld can't even sell out a show anymore and Julia Louis-Dreyfus hasn't been carrying her own sitcom for 5 seasons.
3/6/2010 11:41:20 AM
Isn't that the issue with every sitcom that ends? The chemistry between the characters is what makes it funny, not always just one individual.
3/6/2010 11:49:21 AM
except that curb your enthusiasm is a repetitive show that gets old after you watch three or four episodes.
3/6/2010 12:05:59 PM
^i disagree, all of season 5 was great. its gotten kind of old since then though.but yeah, very few sitcom actors get good deals after their hit show is over...Friends is the only exception I can think of.
3/6/2010 12:17:16 PM
I've only seen about 4 or 5 Curb your Enthusiasm episodes, mostly from the earlier seasons, but at least this show stayed on the air.
3/6/2010 12:19:50 PM
curb your enthusiasm is an excellent show i'd put up there a few notches below seinfeld.
3/6/2010 12:27:35 PM
in no way does CYE get old.
3/6/2010 1:45:25 PM
Every Curb episode has the same plot. That's not to say it's not enjoyable, but it's formulaic show.
3/6/2010 1:56:04 PM
following a formula /= same plot
3/6/2010 2:02:52 PM
seinfeld was also the same formula every show
3/6/2010 2:07:39 PM
3/6/2010 2:09:58 PM
it does get repetitive and larry david being larry david gets old
3/6/2010 3:53:09 PM
no again
3/6/2010 4:03:52 PM
yeah, that's just false
3/6/2010 4:05:58 PM
i would finish the seasons of CYE but I feel there are better things to watchbecause i get tired of his personalitybut i do respect his work
3/6/2010 4:10:34 PM
Eh, I won't argue that Larry David was vital to Seinfeld's success, but Jerry played a big role in getting the series on the air. He's more "marketable" than Larry David. Haven't watched the Marriage Ref, but it sounds like a terrible idea anyway. Also this:

3/6/2010 9:36:09 PM
^you define success by awards?Every time I see a Jerry Seinfeld appearance he seems less funny to me these days. However, to say he was nothing without Larry David is pretty stupid. He was producing awesome stand-up years before and independent of his association with Larry David. If anything has caused a downturn in his output, its massive success and having a wife and family.
3/7/2010 6:01:46 AM
It is a gauge by industry standards, so yeah Julia Louis Dreyfuss has enjoyed success after Seinfeld. Seinfeld is a funny stand up comdedian, but the thing that made him work on the sitcom was his supporting cast. Take funny comedian with no acting ability + surround him with acting talent = one of the best sitcoms to date.
3/7/2010 8:51:57 AM
having funny standup has very little to do with sitcom success. And for our purposes I'm going to define success as not getting your shit cancelled. Even Julia Louis-Dreyfus had one show http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watching_Ellie that got cancelled.
3/7/2010 10:57:48 AM
3/7/2010 11:12:34 AM
Larry David is one of the most inherently funny people of our times and a god damned genius.
3/8/2010 2:29:15 AM
^^^ To that point, Watching Ellie got cancelled twice, once as a single camera sitcom and once as a three camera sitcom.
3/8/2010 7:13:07 AM
They're all hacks. Larry David included.
3/8/2010 8:52:13 AM
3/8/2010 9:28:46 AM
LOL
3/8/2010 9:34:08 AM
3/8/2010 10:23:03 AM
Straight up?who says that?
3/8/2010 10:33:47 AM
3/8/2010 10:34:58 AM
Its a thread about Larry David and Seinfeld; how could it not be full of fail?
3/8/2010 10:39:57 AM
3/8/2010 10:45:46 AM
3/8/2010 2:30:22 PM
Are you implying that anyone that plays or played WoW is a failure?I would also like to see that claim's relevance to how un-funny and lame Larry David and his productions are.oh, and rad biceps brah!
3/8/2010 2:37:23 PM
^^not true about the $1.7 bil. While it sold for that, he didn't make $1.7b.
3/8/2010 2:39:44 PM
Yeah, I fumbled some numbers on that one. It was a 1.7 Bil dollar bucks deal. Dude's estimated worth is in the ballpark of $300 Mil. Which ain't chump change for a guy who made the bulk of it scribbling jokes on a napkin.
