I got rid of my old shed and built a bigger one the other year.
I went from a shed that was 6x6 w/ no power to 10x14 with power. Oh and my wife said it had to match the house. We got it done in two weekends. I ran the power in the winter. That was the crappiest part of it all.

I also did my storage building and a fence. As soon as I got it the way I wanted it, we decided to sell. The plus side, I made money on my improvements.





I plan on doing another storage building, fence, irrigation system, landscaping, etc. at my new house.

both of those storage buildings are sweet.

I did also build my home but I wont count that as a do it yourself project because that is what I do for a living.

I built these built in bookcases a few months back. I did it in 3 sections and literally had to make one fit with the sledge hammer. Turned out pretty nice. Somewhere for my wife to put all her books and whatnot. I have one little cubby on it for my stuff

- Cleared off 2.5 acres of land where house currently is (see pics in gallery).
- Built 8x12 shed with loft.

Going to work on building a wrap-around porch this year. Will sub out any work we don't want to do ourselves (I'm not laying the block myself, that's for sure).

This spring/summer, I get to reshingle a roof, install a door, and install new gutters. I've never really done handyman work, but I'm looking forward to it!

this was my do-it-yourself project from last summer (with some family help).

24x36 shop with 14' wrap around shelters, 18' garage door opening, story and a half, water and power.

cool project, alot easier than working on the house because the inside didn't have to be finished. this project lead to a couple of drinking afternoons because i didn't feel rushed, as i did when built the house 2 years earlier. good times.

this summers project is going to be asphalt on the driveway. of course, this doesn't involve me at all because i can't lay asphalt, but its going to eat all my money--thus no projects. no wait, i'm going to install a mantle on the fireplace in a few weeks, but thats about it.

Here is my progress on the fence around the garden so far. I have deliberately left 2 ends open so I can get the tractor in to turn/till it one last time. Then I will close in both ends and put a "gate" at 1 end. I want it to be simple enough that we can take it down / put it up each year, but still tall/strong enough to keep animals out. If it works this year, then next year I am replacing the wooden posts with metal ones.

Here's 1 project I did when we moved in. Had to remove some shelves that were permanently installed directly into the drywall. Had to patch, texture, and paint the wall. And then added some shelves and doors to the built in entertainment center

Next up: For some reason our place came with carpeted bathrooms, so I want to rip that out and put in some stone tile. Might as well replace the toilets at the same time.

No pictures yet. But finishing up a little renovation of the foyer:

Scraped off popcorn and put on a hand-textured mud finish, painted it white.
New light fixture.
Removed ugly brown wood tile-mimicking laminate, replaced with 1/2" rockboard and slate.
Painted paneling and trim.
Painted the walls.

Need to finish painting the trim, then dry wipe and seal the slate. Then there will be pictures.

im not nearly this handy

i was proud of myself for diagnosing and fixing my dishwasher. nothing like ripping your first appliance apart and actually have it working later.

i also redid part of the yard to turn it into a garden. the rock retaining wall leaks water/mud like a bitch though so i lost some of it. still, a 10x20 pit of eroded mud into a mulched area with a few plants wasn't so bad.

It's not actually that bright. I took that picture with my cell phone, and the camera on it sucks. The stone is actually tan - light brown.

The house we bought has one of those recessed TV nooks over the fireplace. Its big enough to hold a 36" widescreen I think, but 1) the TV I have for this room is 42" and 2) I don't like having the TV set up that high and didn't want the TV on that wall anyway.

I had been trying to figure out what to do with that space. I had considered hanging a picture or something over it, but the picture would have to be a lot bigger than I would like to hang up. I had also considered trying to drywall over it before we paint that wall (the fireplace wall is going to be the accent wall in this room). None of that really got me excited.

After thinking about it some more, its actually a pretty nicely done little TV nook, not just a square cutout, so I think I am going to install some floating shelves inside equal to the width of the opening and it will give us a place to store some photos and statuettes we have that currently keep the mantle a little too crowded. I think I am going to have white shelves like the trim on the fireplace, but paint the inside of the nook a different shade of the same color we are using on the rest of the wall so that it stands out a little bit. Might even run some low-voltage accent lighting in there. We'll see.

An outdoor kitchen would be sooo awesome! I'm jealous!

Not sure if this counts, but in a few weeks, we are going to fix up our chicken house (there are some rotten boards on it), re-wire the outside of the coop, run an electric fence on the top of the wire, and get some laying hens! MMmmm...fresh eggs!

we are on the downtown raleigh alliance home tour in May so I have been getting the yard right. It's looking good so far. Easy to make it look right when you own .088 of an acre and the majority of that is a house and garage

Just to give a better idea, this is the tv nook I was talking about earlier. Still considering installing some shelves in there and installing some accent lighting on the backside of that front arch. That wall is going to be painted sort of a flat wine-red color and I think I will paint the inside of that nook a differ shade of that or a different color and paint the shelves a semi-gloss white like the fireplace.
