what what what!?
2/20/2010 2:29:26 PM
These graphics look awesome! Can't wait.
2/20/2010 2:38:24 PM
screw graphics, just make the AI faster.
2/20/2010 2:56:52 PM
Should be interesting: they're talking about shifting away from stacks and instead having one unit per spot with variable strength in each unit. Also having missile units be able to hit from a standoff position.
2/20/2010 3:20:40 PM
What we have heard of the combat system so far reminds me of older war games. Hell, the new map itself is straight from a war game (Hexagonal map!). I remember back when I was younger dreaming of a Civ + Panzer General hybrid. Should be interesting.
2/20/2010 4:07:22 PM
I playing this since civ1 wat they need is a civ like game where u make decisions w the same input a real monarch would have. you know, like u just chit chatting with courtiers and playing badminton and kaotowing generals come up and feed u little bits of info and u have to decide wat do. then later in the game u might actually ride out and see ur new armada or maybe go visit some duke and inspect his vassalicious army.
2/21/2010 5:37:28 PM
^this is a strategy game not a RPG
2/21/2010 5:39:50 PM
^^does it take a lot of effort to sound that stupid?can't wait to get back into this. maybe i'll fire up some fall from heaven in the interim
2/21/2010 6:10:55 PM
My brothers used to play this game (civ2) and would never let me play. It was very convoluded and a lot to manage with timed turns. Sometimes I would get the map and play co-pilot telling them what every unit did. They all say the new games suck. ^^^and then we can start typing with it and go civvvvvvvvvvv EXPANSION PACK EXPANSION PACK PACK PACKI'll stick to roller coaster tycoon and sim city 2000.
2/21/2010 6:24:46 PM
god fucking damn it, I'm falling so behind the gaming curve, I haven't even played four yet
2/21/2010 6:32:13 PM
Played 1 and 2 a bit, ok I guess. Got 3, love it, havnt played 4 yet. Might skip it and get this one.
2/21/2010 7:24:11 PM
Civ 1 is a classic! how could anyone not like the original?
2/21/2010 7:42:40 PM
Civ2 was probably the best, for its time, but whoever says all the new games suck is full of shit. The new games offer so much more depth. I have played all of them since the original, and speaking from personal experience, have loved every last one. Can't say I've been disappointed by any of them yet, so this will definitely be a purchase for me this year.
2/21/2010 7:49:38 PM
I played every game of the series. My problem with the new games is that there's so much shit going on I tend to get bored and fall behind because I'm not micromanaging the hell out of my civ. The first two games were all about war--that was my strategy, anyway.
2/21/2010 8:10:25 PM
the screenshots make it look like its based on settlers of catan
2/21/2010 8:57:51 PM
that's like saying a ferrari is based on a kia just because they have similar base functions
2/21/2010 9:08:43 PM
madman, the micromanaging bullshit ended with the later versions of civ3. it was prolly solved by macros before that but i not that hard. goalielax, plz don't criticize me in any context even if "fall from heaven" whatever that is (i going to take a look) ameliorates it, i just very sensitive person even /b/ not desensitizing me but i trying. ur gym-teacher attack does not compute.
2/22/2010 6:17:43 PM
^what?
2/22/2010 6:20:23 PM
^^does it take a lot of effort to sound that stupid?I'm still playing the hell out of both Civ II and Civ IV. Looking forward to seeing more details about this.
2/22/2010 6:59:17 PM
I was addicted to civ2 and civ3 in high school.
2/22/2010 8:14:30 PM
sid meier continues to ruin my life
2/22/2010 10:23:26 PM
lullz still has the civ IV resources (horses etc) with the same graphics, though i bet this will be changed.i hope they make mountains at least usable by cities, for either resources (minerals etc or production) also some level of disparity between era units needs to be increased a little.the hexagonal map definitely adds something though!'ranged' effects are from civ III and II? (not sure about II, been a long long time)[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 2:12 PM. Reason : s]

There were like 3 different Civ2's because of a controversy. There was Sid Meiers Civ2 that had the really cool wonder videos and Advisor Videos and Elvis. There was Civ2:Call to power that I never played, and there was my fav Civ2:Test of Time which had this Extended Civ mode where u went up in technologies WAY past modern era to the point where it was insane w mechwarriors and aliens and teleportation.
2/23/2010 5:55:00 PM
if u liking civ, u might also liking Europa Universalis Rome
3/14/2010 3:33:25 PM
When are they going to make an Alpha Centauri 2?
3/16/2010 3:31:53 AM
we need a new age of empires damnit
3/16/2010 8:27:33 AM
Hopefully in Civ V a helicopter can't be beaten by a maceman.

lolol I lost a tank to a fucking warrior once in civ 2
4/11/2010 8:35:39 PM
^Maybe that Warrior was a Na'vi and took the tank out Avatar style
4/11/2010 8:38:32 PM
i used to play civ2 all the fucking time. played a dinosaur scenario a lot. some space one a lot. if I wasn't in a scenario I always played the biggest real world map, usually as the americans. I'd get pissed if the sioux or aztecs appeared on US soil. I'd always name my cities based on what they were actually near. Denver, Miami, St. Louis, Seattle, and LA were always beastly cities.
4/11/2010 8:43:43 PM
But did you have a Raleigh and Durham? My favorite maps were always the real world maps. But I also felt that was cheating a bit because I knew where land masses were regardless of the fog of war or undiscovered black outs.
4/11/2010 8:45:19 PM
Yeah, I usually play the world map on Civ IV. The Chinese have the best access to resources, hands-down.

Do want!I wish they didn't totally eliminate the religious aspect of the game tho. I think it plays a legitimate part of history and it's implementation in Civ IV was useful.
6/15/2010 2:59:19 PM
I didn't hear about the religion part, but I think it is a bit disappointed. Love it or hate it, no one can deny that religion is an integral part in the evolution of human civilization. I thought their implementation worked reasonably well in Civ IV: it was enough to get the feel for real religious blocks and the sort of divisions it created while at the same time serving as a source of culture.
