...I made this huge deal about how excited I was, and how much the book meant to me, how I related to it so much growing up, and all that stuff. People were weirded out by this. Even my parents were a bit miffed--I liked the book a lot, they said, but not that much. I chalked it up to a funky memory/perception issue.

Anyway, I just figured it out. I wasn't remembering Where the Wild Things Are. I was remembering Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day:

http://www.amazon.com/Alexander-Terrible-Horrible-Good-Very/dp/0689711735/ref=tmm_pap_title_0

I was not the cool, rebellious kid with a kickass imagination and a heightened appreciation for children's books illustrations. I was the inappropriately emotional and annoying kid who constantly needed her feelings acknowledged.

^^Hey now. I'd say the need for acknowledgement has at least downgraded from constant to intermittent.

I mean, give me some credit here. I have discovered alcohol after all.

I just remember: "I went to sleep with gum in my mouth, and woke up with gum in my hair." Which I think is how it begins.

You may have discovered it, but you obviously aren't using it.

Drink those emotions away!

Oh god the caterpillar book. I still see that in bookstores sometimes, but it's like... updated.

Probably more mindful of caterpillar rights.

I'm getting my movie, y'all. It doesn't look all that good, but still!

Also, I've learned the correct definition of "miffed" since I made this thread. I'm embarrassed, but whatever, I'm not gonna let it ruin my day.

I remember I won a spelling bee in elementary school and the prize was a copy of "Alexander and The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"
