One of my best friends from my NCSU days is about to have his son any day now. Of course I'd like to get them something special to commemorate this momentous event and it seems appropriate for it to be State based (especially since she's UNC and Duke ). I'm pretty sure that 'GroupThink' will come up with a better idea than I could.Help me TWW! Aaaaaand go!

There's an NCSU store off of Wade Avenue in the same shopping center as Whole Foods. Go there and buy an NCSU onesie/creeper, or one of those cute little NCSU baby caps they have. It's cold now so they'll be using the little toboggan/cap things. They're bound to have baby stuff!]

How about a bottle of jack, wrapped in red and white paper.[Edited on February 12, 2010 at 12:50 PM. Reason : .]

I'd avoid things like pacifiers or bottles because chances are the kid will not like it. Babies are really particular about that kind of stuff. We got NCSU baby bottles and pacifiers and they ultimately got thrown out. logo'ed clothing items are a good bet though. They tend to be fairly expensive, and with new parents having to buy so much stuff, sometimes it's hard to stretch the budget to spend $15 on a piece of clothing that would be a fraction of the amount for the same thing without a logo. We appreciated all of the state clothing we got, and passed them on to other friends who were state alums.

^ agreed. If you want to buy stuff in general that is not State related, get them diapers (any size because they'll be used eventually), lotions, baby wash, etc. All of that is guaranteed to be used. Or just get a target gift card. Seriously. My wife's family got our baby girl so many damn baby outfits that she grew out of them before she could even wear some of them. My wife even made a conscious effort to have her wear something new each day. If you are dead set on getting clothes, get stuff that is 6 month or older sizes. The parents won't be able to use them right away, but they will likely need those sizes more than the newborn stuff.[Edited on February 12, 2010 at 1:42 PM. Reason : sfd]

If you buy 6mos clothing, keep in mind the baby will be 6mos old in August and will not need a sweater, pants, and boots

i usually dont gift baby clothes since they're over-giftedbut don't most people include a gift receipt? i always do, if nothing else than a matter of courtesy. if they dont want the shit i bought them i want them to at least get something else with the same $ amount i spent!!and good call ^ haha

alcohol and pain medicine

gift cards are typically good for new parent's. Diapers are probably the most useful item, but make sure to include a gift receipt so that they can exchanged. Different brands of diapers fit differently, so they work for some babies and not others.

apparently, condoms.

or a coathanger

i agree with not getting pacifiers or bottles, they will probably not be used. i think state onesies might be a good idea or even some bibs. target gift cards are always useful but i guess you're trying to personalize it more.

i would get them a card, when you open it up on the inside it would have a picture of the mustard guy saying "you fucked up"

the last few friends i have that have had babies actually got very little clothing, BUT everything they did get was for 0-3 months. don't buy 0-3 months and like previously mentioned, take into account what season it will be when the child is 3-6, 6-9, etc. months.

damn, people are all picky with their children. i say just get them a bolt of cloth, and as the kid grows they can cut it off in new sizes, like wrapping a present.it's not like the kid is gonna care.
2/12/2010 7:56:58 PM
^exactlyand if the kid is gay, get them unc clothing

I got my nephew a state onesy thing... but my sister in law is an avid tarholes fan.i dont think that present got within 3 feet of the kid!

That sleepbag is awesome. Am I the only one that chuckles at the site of baby paraphernalia?
2/13/2010 2:19:57 AM
i don't think you can ever have too many clothes for your baby. they get changed like 50 times a day.
2/13/2010 9:54:32 AM
NC State penis cover. seriously, if they make them. It's like a little sports cup that you put over his peter while you are changing his diaper so if the cool air makes him whiz everywhere, it blocks it.

one thing that I really wanted was a NCSU diaper bag. When our daughter was born we received SOOOO much 0-6 month clothes. It was insane. She outgrew a lot of things before she could wear them. Don't buy pacifers or bottlesDiapers are good but some people prefer certain brands. We prefer Luvs but pampers and huggies work just as well. Giant boxes of wipes from Bjs/costco are useful, just get the unscented ones. The bookstore has adorable NSCU sweatsuits (i think they started at 12 months)Hats, socks, bibs are all useful and you can never have too many of those.

My sister makes custom baskets. Here is one she made for an expectant girl. It cam with 6 onzies, a set of towels, baby oil, baby powder, pacifier, 6 pairs of socks, and more. She has done other animals. Let me know if you are interested. Obviously for a boy, the towels wouldn't be pink.

I like this NCSU diaper bag:http://www.broadbaycotton.com/Diaper-Bags-Baby-Shower-Gifts-For-Him-Or-Her_3084_2.htmlI think even a guy wouldn't mind carrying that around hahaha:
