Ah Ha! Gotcha! You thought I was talking about James Cameron's Avatar...

I used to watch the cartoon here and there, but it was lame at times. I think the movie will be just as lame if not more. M. Night Shyamalan flicks have been going downhill in the past few years.

well it might be okay because he is not writing the plot so no really lame plot twists

Wow. Currently sitting at 6% on rottentomatoes. I was planning on seeing this. I'll have to read some of the reviews.

Disappointing. The graphics looked pretty cool but not worth sitting through if the movie is horrible.

I somewhat had faith in Shyamalan as a non-writing director.

I guess not.

I'm sad.

The show is good.

so, in this case, it's like saying a movie based on a book adaptation is better as a book....

Remind me again how fictitious people on an imaginary world are supposed to map to real-world ethnic groups.

C'mon, Frosh. We're talking about a character with an Indian name and a Tibetan origin story.

Next you'll tell me Roosevelt Franklin isn't black.

Anyway, the important thing is that hopefully this will be three strikes for M. Night.

I had this argument last night. I agree that the actors and actresses should ideally resemble the characters. If the character has olive skin and dark hair, cast a dude or dudette who has the same, right?

But you can't call a motherfuckin' cartoon character from Pretendland Asian. You wanna show me on a map where in relation to fucking China the fucking Fire Nation lies?

Culturally they were all Chinese with some Indian in the show, but ethnically it was impossible to tell. Seemed like a mix to me.

I never saw Unbreakable, but I thought that the consensus was that Signs and the three films after it were all terrible.

Somehow I forgot Lady in the Water, which makes four consecutive strikes including this one.

Other than the incredibly stupid water thing, Signs is tolerable.

I think Unbreakable was a great flick.

I didn't like signs
6th sense was good the first time, but has absolutely zero repeat playability

Anyone see this yet? The trailers made me want to see it but the reviews have put me off. I've got a friend that saw it and liked it, of course there are only two movies in the history of movies that I've ever heard him be critical of: Catwoman and Star Trek Nemesis.

My best friend has watched the entire animated series and loved every minute of it, and he's trying to get me started on it as well. He just sent me a message warning me to stay away from this movie. I thought he was joking, but he's quite serious.

i just finished the first season of the animated series. i have not, however, seen the movie. that being said, here is an excerpt from time's "10 questions" with m. night shyamalan:

What's the most difficult experience you've ever encountered on a shoot?

Airbender was my longest movie. Three-quarters through the shoot, I lost my grasp on everything. I came on the set and there were 600 extras battling, and i just got exhausted. I felt like I'd lost control of the movie. And that was a scary moment.

I can't believe this movie is somehow being received worse than The Happening.

$150 million beat from him? The movie is doing fairly well financially. That critic does not understand the movie business. ~$40 million in a weekend is no slouch, it will make back the budget in no time.

And The Happening is hilarious and Wahlberg's is a performance for the ages.

I'm pretty sure M. Night was legitimately setting out to make a B-Horror film in The Happening.

and he made a super funny movie.

The Happening, Unbreakable, and The Sixth Sense are successes, and Signs I guess. I don't remember Signs much.

and The Village is slightly over-hated, but still not good.

I saw it, it wasn't great but a lot of that stemmed from the fact that i had just finished book one of the anime like 2 days prior

i feel like instead of a live action it would have been better if they had continued the story after book 3 with an animated movie

they could chronicle aang rebuilding of the 3 remaining nations and zuko's search for his mother in the opening act then a well timed and executed attack plan on the fire nation capital by a group still loyal to fire lord osai or maybe a strike against the members of the order of the white lotus, hell if they did it right they could have set themselves up for another series or at least a franchise of movies.

My major problem with what they did do is that they made book one into one movie, doing so they left out so much of the character development that it was hard to really understand the motivations of the characters so that when you get to the part where iroh turns against general zhao it seems so out of the blue
