everyone knows the acc isn't that great this year....but the talent that we're pulling in next year, especially guards, should raise the level of play quite significantly

3/17/2011 4:38:43 PM
pitt's even letting unca hang. turrible.
3/17/2011 4:40:19 PM
^^yeah lets just rank every team in the top 25 and then when they lose its because they are playing all ranked teams
3/17/2011 5:05:04 PM
of course, the other argument is that their conference tournament is a week long. uconn played what, like 5 games last week?
3/17/2011 5:06:33 PM
I have het to see a stat where the title matches the post
3/17/2011 5:53:58 PM
^^yeah, and the best teams only have to play 3 days to win it all, just like in the ACCto me the BE is always overrated to me[Edited on March 18, 2011 at 12:08 AM. Reason : .]

So far we have:(1) Pittsburgh(2) Notre Dame(3) UConn(3) Syracuse(4) Louisville(5) West Virginia(6) Georgetown(6) St. Johns(6) Cincinatti(9) Villanova(11)Marquette
3/19/2011 12:33:43 AM
The only real surprising loss was Louisville. That was inexcusable but a healthy Knowles is important -- still need to win that game. Georgetown and St. John's each lost their second best player down the stretch. I know Wright came back, but he wasn't close to the same player.Villanova sucked the last half of the year. No real surprise there. It kind of sucks that they had so many teams in that two more teams will automatically be out by the time the weekend ends since they play conference teams.

Using the number of conference titles as your sole, or even major ranking point doesn't make a lot of sense. The ACC is very top-heavy with Duke and UNC. Once you get past those guys there is a significant dropoff. (I do realize Maryland accounted for one of their titles, but that was kind of a fluke, and look at where they are now). However in the Big East, there are probably 10 teams that had a legitimate shot at winning the Big East Championship. I imagine if there was a ACC/Big East Challenge, then after the Duke/UNC games, it would get really ugly for the ACC.

I don't like the idea, in general, of having to play teams you already had to face in conference and face year in and year out so early in the tournament. It could have been avoided with some legwork by the committee.I've read it had something to do with payouts and the NCAA not wanting to give too high an amount to one conference. Of course you have to take that with a grain of salt.
3/19/2011 10:15:01 AM
The Big East teams are perennial Top 25 studs in the regular season. But most of them shit the bed in the tournament.

^^^ not sure what you're getting at, but all but one Big East team was in the Top 155 (yes, I know that's random but it's for a point). The only other conference that can say that is the Big XII.They were easily the best top to bottom this year. I mean for fuck's sake 11 teams were RPI Top 75.

2003-4 ACC had 6 of 9 teams in the NCAA tourney, which is about the same percentage as 11 of 16.

Yeah exactly what I meant. Good programs can have bad years. UConn missed the tournament two years recently in 2007 and 2010. I was using them as an example of that.
