I think it would be worthwhile to allow a user to move his or her own thread to chit chat within the 30 minute edit time limit.Perhaps this could be extended to allow users to switch their thread to any board, but a one-way trip to chit-chat would probably be the least risky and probably easier to implement.I think it would be very important to enforce the 30 minute time limit also... It would not be nice to allow a user to start a serious thread in Soapbox and once its gone 4 pages and the creator gets mad, he shouldn't be able to just trash it once others are invested in it.What say you.

I think there should be people designated for this purpose -- "moderators", if you will -- that will be able to assess these move requests for reasonableness and carry them out as necessary.

eh, a move to cc by the thread creator doesn't really have a whole hell of a lot of abuse potential imo.. i mean, obviously you still have to keep the 1 thread/hr limit working somehow

sometimes the mods aren't online atm... usually any request to move a thread to chit-chat would be reasonable.its the other directions which would need to be evaluated for "reasonableness" and that is why I suggested one-way one-destination only.

in order to do this, there would have to be some changes to the 1 thread per hour stuff. I've tested this with a mod in the past, and it was possible to move a thread out of a section and then be able to immediately create another thread in that section. Even still, the end result would be people creating threads in other sections, only to move them to chit chat, thus defeating the 1 thread per hour in CC, unless you made it so that you could only move one thread to CC per hour, too.[Edited on January 31, 2010 at 7:24 PM. ok that would workor just make it a global one thread per hour deal.

^^yeah, i remember gunzz talking about that little loophole for mods once. which is exactly why i said what i did already.

I'm still in favor of suspending the 1 thread per hour. The rule was created for a tww that no longer exists. We no longer have near the same traffic to warrant it.

in the age of BubbleBobble, you don't want to do away with that rule.

The simple solution is just to skip straight to banning with extreme prejudice anyone that is caught abusing the system.A mod wakes up one morning and has PMs from users or sees the system has been abused and he can decide on his own to make a user go poof.

I don't think that the benefit of allowing users to clean up after themselves (by moving their own threads to CC) is enough to merit the downside of eliminating the one thread per hour rule. That said, if we could do both things at once, I think it would be awesome!
