Well, it's not what you think, however, I thought I'd share.

It wasn't that bad to make really. Time consuming, yes. It took just less than 1 hour to cut the templates out and about 3.5 hours to glue and fold. I used some of the basic techniques I've learned from making other paper model cars and tried applying it here. The only difference is much more time is needed, especially since the bonding surfaces are MUCH smaller. I took my time to make sure I did this properly. For my first attempt, not too bad imo. Next time, I'll be sure to use better tools/techniques to get the paper folded, especially on the curvy portions of the model.

Well, I guess you could call it "origami" if you used the term as a slang/modern term. However, this isn't true origami as it is usually an object made from uncut square paper. Also, origami doesn't require any adhesives. With traditional origami, you have square paper at your disposal, and that's it

Here is a directory. Some of the links are bad, and most go to Japanese and Chinese webpages. There are some really awesome/challenging models out there. Some sites require you to have Pepakura Viewer2, a modeling program, from which you print off the templates. Some include instructions. Most do not.

To make the models, I recommend a pin/needle/toothpick to spread the glue and poke when necessary, tweezers (depending on the model, I didn't need tweezers on simpler models but it was helpful on the Porsche RS 2.7 ), exacto knife for straight precision cuts, ruler, and scissors (for round cuts). I use regular elmers glue, not a glue stick. Elmers glue is stronger and dries faster. Plus you can manipulate the paper before the glue dries, which is helpful until you get a technique down that is comfortable for you. Use the pin to put on a very light coat, you don't need a lot or the paper will start to warp and looks "wet" when it dries. That's just some advice to get you started that I've learned.

Also, I use the knife to gently go over the creases where I know I'm going to make folds. This helps with making folds in the paper. Just make sure you don't cut all the way through the paper. On larger models, or those requiring strength, use 70# or 100# cardstock. I plan on making a MechWarrior one day, and people will often use a 70# cardstock for strength and to make movable/rotational joints. I've used regular 20# printer paper though and it'll work just fine for these car models.

I did a papercraft motorcycle a few years ago. I'll have to see if I can find any pictures.

It was something like 30 sheets of paper and took me 3 days to put together. But it was suhweeet
