I was just searching online to find a solution to file copy issue that seems to be plagueing people using Windows 7 and Time Capsules. Much to my surprise I stumble upon mountains of people complaining that TCs are failing 18 months after purchase. There is even a site dedicated to people who have TCs that have went kaput. Does anyone else use a TC, is it still working? http://timecapsuledead.org/I am trying to get support from Apple to see if there is anything that can be done before mine becomes another fallen soldier. I have had my TC for 5 months.

the funny thing about making a website dedicated to particular devices dying is that people who have said devices which don't die don't really have a reason to go to the site to report that news. So, yeah.... reading a site dedicated to talking about dead time capsules just might give you the idea that time capsules fail at high rate, which you can't really know without knowing how many are still working fine.

I've had mine for sometime now and it still works. At least a year.

it is a problem though and not a small one.when this originally hit the fan, the Apple support forums were overflowed with people having their TC's fail, not just a third-party website.it has nothing to do with Windows 7, it's a power supply issue. and while slim and sexy are Apple designs, their lack of accessibility (and poor thermal design in this instance) is terrifying... the power supply is built in to the TC, so unless Apple replaces the entire TC, chances are it's screwed.[Edited on January 22, 2010 at 10:26 AM. Yeah, its definitely a design flaw. Its a small sealed box with little air circulation, mine runs so hot that you could cook an egg on it. I talked to Apple tech support, he said there's not much they can do now since my unit has not failed. But he did say that Apple would replace my TC after the normal 1 year warranty. It sounded like an unofficial acknowledgement that there is a problem with the devices and that Apple was allowing support of the device after the normal warranty expired. Regardless, if nothing else this is a PSA announcement for all people with TC's to make sure they back up their backup regular.Time Capsule that last for 18 months, how ironic.
