i am still wondering if my ncsu webmail will forward to my gmail when i graduate..
1/20/2010 5:09:28 PM
for a few months. but, register for this and youll have the account forever (soon).
1/20/2010 5:14:05 PM
all your email are belong to google
1/20/2010 5:18:55 PM
I like the fact I can keep my ncsu.edu account for life.
1/20/2010 5:37:13 PM
what about alums?

Any mention of a way to merge your current gmail account and your current ncsu account? I've used the forwarding option in the past, and sometimes it forwards to my spam folder, so I gave up and started checking both accounts regularly. If I can merge them great, but if I'm still checking 2 gmail accounts on a regular basis, then I see no improvement here.

you can forward the ncsu gmail account to the gmail account you use regularly. I only see this helping people who do not currently use google.

Well you can pop one of the Google accounts from the other and apply whatever label you want to it. I have my hotmail account as a separate folder and it's popped every 30 minutes or something.

LOL of course and my ncsu account just bit the dust on Jan. 5th.

Big step in the right direction. The Google Apps suite is rolled in with this, and a slew of universities have already gone down this road.
1/20/2010 6:32:15 PM
how can i request to be on the beta test or whatever it's called
1/20/2010 6:38:04 PM

Now we need to take care of all the annoying accessory systems we already have to deal with, but that's a different matter.Google's hands feel good on my bare skin, I know he'll take care of me, and keep me warm.

Where does it say you get to keep your ncsu email forever?[Edited on January 20, 2010 at 7:51 PM. Reason : NVM found it]

1) Faculty and staff are on/moving to GroupWise/WolfWise. 2) Google has IMAP access so it is possible to [slowly] move your stuff over. Don't know if that'l be different for the GoogleApps@NCSU implementation but I can't imagine it will be.3) NCSU gmail for life will make it easier for NCSU to keep track of you (so you can get your transcript and unfettered access to donation opportunities). Lifelong identity management is tied in with the Shibboleth project when/if it replaces WRAP: http://oit.ncsu.edu/iam/shibboleth-federation-working-groupSupplanter, in addition to [2] you might want to look into using Gmail's multiple inboxes to manage your mail identity.

You can always keep your NCSU forever, if you graduate, IIRC>

Unity accounts expire after a ~3 month grace period after you graduate or separate from the university. You can have an alumni forwarding address but not your unityID@ncsu.edu mail.

So I already have my NCSU email forwarded to my Gmail, what would signing up for the beta do to me?

registered.....i've always wondered why ncsu email is called squirrelmail.....is it simple due to all the little furry fucks around campus?
1/20/2010 11:40:07 PM
squirrel mail is merely the webapp front end to an IMAP system. You can download a squirrel male webapp, install it on your on server, and configure it to connect to your own IMAP server.

Well I graduated dec 2008 and without setting anything special up the emails to my ncsu address still get forwarded
1/21/2010 12:11:44 AM
it's about fucking time.
1/21/2010 9:15:19 AM
I wasn't aware you could keep your ncsu account. Mine was shut down 6 months after graduating earlier this month. How are you able to keep it ?

Just registered for beta. Hope it takes effect before my account gets shut down, I graduated in December.
1/21/2010 1:13:37 PM
^^ Actually, the Alumni Association just offers e-mail forwarding--not an e-mail account.
1/21/2010 3:05:22 PM
great, now we can all get haxored by the chinks
1/21/2010 3:12:39 PM
Its live finally. Just got my application now. Will report back after I activate.
4/2/2010 4:44:23 PM
so i signed up for the beta a while back... when will i know if they "selected" me?
4/2/2010 4:45:03 PM
^ You'll get an email. I just got mine.
4/2/2010 4:50:42 PM
is it different than the
4/2/2010 4:55:01 PM
4/2/2010 5:00:15 PM
well i got that email too... i don't see anywhere that says it is now active or whatever.
4/2/2010 5:02:01 PM
nm i found the little button at the bottom.
4/2/2010 5:03:59 PM
at the bottom it shows progess as reports of it copying over. Mine's stuck on provisioning right now but ive about 30 mb to move (which evidently takes some time...)
4/2/2010 5:48:38 PM
Wo0t! Now to commence the waiting game.
4/2/2010 6:36:26 PM
As a staff member, this thread just makes me so sad.
4/2/2010 6:40:38 PM
yeah, but now, as staff, you can worry about more interesting things than managing people's emails
4/2/2010 6:44:50 PM
Good going Student E-mail Team! Awesome job. Finally IT on campus gets a sorely-needed PR win.
4/2/2010 7:09:33 PM
469 emails and almost 4 hrs later its done. Lets see how it is...
4/2/2010 8:26:58 PM
gmail works fine but i cant get it to sync with outlook. Im pretty sure it works fine. also started messing with gmail calendar sync and both are saying credentials are wrong. Any one else able to get outlook working?
4/2/2010 9:21:18 PM
Master_Yoda, change your unity password after you setup the beta and then POP and IMAP will work with your new password.
4/2/2010 10:00:20 PM
^ ya reading up on remedy cases that seems to be the trick. I did, Imma give it a few as it doesnt seem to propagate immediately like I normally get.
4/2/2010 10:07:33 PM
i went from almost maxing out my email to using a sparse 1% of my available space on gmail!
4/2/2010 10:09:27 PM
Awesome on so many levels:

Why is the default theme UNC blue and not something red??![Edited on April 3, 2010 at 7:24 AM. Reason : Ok, I know why now. If you custom theme it to all shades of red it looks like an inbox full of rage]
