FYI for all you tards that download Hentai Anime rips on the interwebs. If you install the Divx codec from divx.com, it includes MKV support now. So no more codec packs and malware hunting necessary.
1/13/2010 4:35:37 AM
yes, because Hentai Anime is currently the only thing distributed in an MKV container. Also If you install the Divx codec from divx.com, VLC it includes has always included MKV support now. So no more codec packs and malware hunting necessary.Go ahead and tell the truth noen. It had been at least a week since you had been able to bitch about how much you hate MKVs and you only started this thread to satisfy your desire to do so.]

VLC is ugly as sin, and about as usable as a brick.I prefer using Windows Media Center, or plain 'ol WMP. Why did you bother doing some strikeout repetition, when your sentence isn't even close to the same structure?Where did I hate on MKV? I'm just pointing out that there is an easy way to get it on your system now to use in ANY media player of choice. Which has been a common and repeated topic on these forums for years.

In this thread you tard. And "oh, I use the media players that came with my OS", What do you want me to say, I watch videos on my HTPC with iTunes? I sure as hell don't use VLC. I use PowerDVD for blu-ray. Just because I don't NEED another program doesn't mean anything.

IN THIS THREAD.He said: "It had been at least a week since you had been able to bitch about how much you hate MKVs and you only started this thread to satisfy your desire to do so."I have said nothing disparaging about MKV IN THIS THREAD.REEEEED people.

oh i had no idea the rules were that threads were segregated and anything said posted in a different thread was not allowed to be brought up

1/13/2010 8:21:32 AM
hasn't this been true for some time? Did you mean "Divx officially includes MKV support now" ?
1/13/2010 8:36:58 AM
neon only watches creative commons content encoded with theora
1/13/2010 8:56:06 AM
Seriously?elitism over a fucking file format?
1/13/2010 9:00:42 AM
I tried watching an MKV file with divx that I just downloaded a couple days ago and got no sound. I had to download the CCCP to get audio working.
1/13/2010 9:22:27 AM
all open source codecs and containers are garbage.
1/13/2010 10:27:58 AM
all codecs and containers are garbage.
1/13/2010 10:31:22 AM
I downloaded a .mkv blu ray rip once and had to go get the codec from a russian website. To this day I fear my computer has been usurped for nefarious deeds. Thank you brother noen, for bringing this great news to the community.
1/13/2010 10:46:20 AM
you are all garbage^damnit, you ruined it ^also CCCP worked just fine for me in the past...although MKV was a huge pain in the ass when I actually tried it years ago.[Edited on January 13, 2010 at 10:49 AM. Reason : .]
1/13/2010 10:48:09 AM
yea, the free tech preview has had mkv support since it came out last April of '09. it's just "official" now.
1/13/2010 12:42:20 PM
you people shut the fuck up geez
1/13/2010 12:47:22 PM
Vlc+mkv has served me well in the past few months.
1/13/2010 1:11:06 PM
I use GOM Player and haali
1/13/2010 5:07:51 PM
anyone who complains about what a media player looks like when you ought to be watching your shit full-screen anyway is gay
1/13/2010 5:58:42 PM
I'm more concerned with how compatible it is with my mouse and/or remote.
1/13/2010 6:01:45 PM
haali will demux anythingffdshow will decode anythingVLC does not decode VC1 The choice of directshow media player has nothing to do with codec support. Windows Media Player won't play shit without codecs, nor will Media Center. Windows XP and Vista support only a handful of codecs (most of which are rarely used). And buying Windows 7 for the built-in codec is a dumb idea.Arguing over codecs, containers, and media players is stupid as shit.

I think (and I may be wrong here!) he may have been attempting something called a "joke".Unable to comprehend the "joke", it appears you became "butthurt".
1/13/2010 7:19:31 PM
Thanks for your concern over the condition of my butt. However, I can assure you it hasn't been hurt in any way.
1/13/2010 7:29:51 PM
^^ No I don't think it was a joke. Noen becomes indignant at the mere mention of MKV most of the time.
1/13/2010 7:33:36 PM
I ruv roo guys

so i'm pretty ignorant towards .mkv files. Are they safe? Does anyone know if they are compatible on the PS3? The only copy of The Searchers i can find with decent seeders is a .mkv file.
1/13/2010 10:28:36 PM
Fail ITT
1/13/2010 11:37:04 PM
^^Many Blu-Ray players won't play divx or .mkv files. Give them a little while to update their firmware and the price point to drop more and more and you'll see if become standard. Check your specific model number on whether it will. If you need to convert mkv, use Nero Vision or ConvertXToDVD for commercial products, or Google up on any number of free ways to do it.
1/14/2010 6:08:13 AM
cool. I know the PS3 plays most all divx types and usually i just stick with .avi for my movie rips. If i want a HD version or blu-ray i'll buy it. The new divx update for my PC played the .mkv flawlessly, but apparently that hasn't been added to the divx codecs on the PS3 yet. I put it on a thumbdrive and tried to access it with a few other movies that were on there and the .mkv file didn't even appear. Hopefully it will be updated soon.[Edited on January 14, 2010 at 8:05 AM. Reason : add]

I wouldn't count on that happening anytime soon. See, the real reason noen hates MKVs so much is because approximately 99.8% everything that uses MKVs is illegal or at the very least in a legally gray area. I can't think of any monetary benefit of mega corporations like Sony or Microsoft adding support for a piracy friendly format such as this.
1/14/2010 8:12:14 AM
I ripped all of my DVD's to MKV, mostly because it preserves chapter markings.i do wish my PS3 would decode it, but whatev, that's why I bought a popcorn hour to begin with.
1/14/2010 9:46:55 AM
mkv2vob if you want the ps3 to play themno native support
