Anybody into it, tried it, or seen it done?Is this real?http://www.academyofsorcery.com/jan15.htm(please spend a little time reading the descriptions of the works before you laugh at it)They send you 50,000 pages (700+ books) for $77, their whole collection. List of some of the books: http://www.academyofsorcery.com/listofbooks.htmIt just makes you wonder if that stuff really works or not.Well, real magic exists, so perhaps it does. I would like to get into it, but I don't want to make pacts with the devil, as that's what's apparently you need to do in order to do real magic.Post all direct and indirect experiences with [real] magic ITT, as I am curious to know just how widespread it is, as >95% of the 'magicians' out there are just tricksters/illusionists.

^^^ you also belong in chit chat, what are you doing here? ^ how do you know? anybody can say anything... do you have any evidence or experience to back that up? humans can do amazing things, that science can't explain.some nepalese buddhist monks can increase/decrease their core body temperature by SEVERAL degrees in just minutes by meditating (in the guinness book). if i told you some humans could do that, you would say that's not possible. that's just one example (of humans being able to do supernatural things).[Edited on January 11, 2010 at 9:04 PM. If you can believe in water into wine or saints doing miracles or turning a rod into snakes or an invisible metaphysical version of yourself that records all the data in your brain, I don't see what is so far fetched about believing in the rest of magic. I went to a lot of weddings last year, and for a couple of them I saw the clergy get pretty seriously into divine magic by casting enchantments on the rings while holding them in the air, shaking them in a fist, while saying ritualistic words.
1/11/2010 10:29:23 PM
True or not, I know a lot of people who believe that people can have roots put on them and that haints exist. Most won't publicly admit it, though.
1/11/2010 11:09:32 PM
In my book, the definition of magic being the changing of one's body temperature by several degrees is a pretty fucking low standard.

I don't deny the existence of magicit strikes me as somewhat closed-minded to assume that there are no supernatural phenomena, and that all events have explanations which are in accordance with the laws of physicsthat's just faith in science, reallyI'm sort of an agnostic about magic, ghosts, etc.

I doubt you're going to get many worthwhile responses here. I am very on the edge about stuff like this. I definitely think if you're going to acknowledge the existance if any omnipotent being, than it's not a far stretch at all to believe in supernatural phenomena. Of course the cool thing now for many college students is, is to vehemently deny even the possibility that God exists, so it naturally follows that you're going to get made fun of for this. I think the big thing is that things that may appear to be magical to us now may be explained by scientific reasoning. I am sure the fact that we can communicate at the speed of light with someone 5000 miles away on a different continent would seem like magic to someone 200 years ago, as would the ability to use a ray of light to reshape an eyeball and restore someone's sight. Of course we know this is just science. Maybe 1,000 years from now, ghosts will be able to be explained as some kind of not yet quantified energy source, and even reproduced in a lab.... who knows.Or perhaps maybe the mind has the power to alter physical reality..... maybe other forms of energy that we can't yet quantify exist. There are SO many stories out there about some kind of "supernatural" or "magical" phenomena, that I can just not imagine every single one of them being fabricated. I was reading about that one experiment with the water crystals being analyzed based on external emotional stimuli..... is this fake? Maybe, but if it's not, then wow. (If you are unfamiliar here is a quick synopsis: http://www.life-enthusiast.com/twilight/research_emoto.htm.I hope you get some decent replies, but like I said most people are just too arrogant and feel too self-important to believe there could be anything out there beyond the laws that they think the universe plays by.

I can magically change my pulse through the power of thought (by remembering stressful or peaceful things, magically).

^^ Thanks. Appreciated. Spot on about the arrogance small-mindedness.Will check out the link later. I am familiar with the research, but haven't read about it in detail.

There are plenty of weird things a human body / mind can do that can't be easily explained. If you want to call it magic, so be it. Personally, I'd find several other interests to pick up before pursuing this. But, I'm not you, and if you do pursue it, share findings / results.

I don't think there's anything that requires a supernatural explanation. We might not be able to understand something, but that doesn't mean it's actually magic.

Magic is the pretended performance of those things which cannot be done. Any "real magic" is just a further illusion of this fact.

So are we defining magic as that which cannot be explained or that which actually violates the laws of physics?
1/12/2010 12:49:49 PM
Not saying it is impossible but unexplained =/= supernatural.[Edited on January 12, 2010 at 12:57 PM. Reason : double post.]

maybe not "magic" but I've seen some very spiritual stuff (as in.. spirits-related). My grandma was a l337 shaman and some of the rituals blow your mind.
