Reading through the Redskins thread and listening to sports radio, it seems that Jason Campbell won't be resigned. Seems like he would be a great fit here.

1) the panthers don't like drafting QB's
2) we could get him cheap
3) he has plenty of starting experience

A Moore/Campbell battle in camp would almost guarantee that a capable QB would be starting week 1 next year.

100% agree. Campbell is a capable QB. I'll be sad to see him leave the Skins but if he ends up anywhere I would rather it be Carolina.

Whatever dude. He finished in the middle of the pack in QB rating, which is a big accomplishment considering how shitty the o-line was (and the team in general).

because he completes short passes. WHenever campbell is asked to look downfield or complete a longer pass....hes complete shit. Carolina can have him.

Upgrade over delhomme? yes

^^^He hasn't shown a lot with the Redskins, but trying to judge anyone with that team is a crap shoot. They have no O-line or receivers to speak of. He's better than Delhomme's sorry ass is all I know.

He's worth a shot IMO

i wouldnt mind it as long as delhomme was gone, but it would scare me that they probably would play campbell over moore since he has 'more experience'

that's a legitimate concern

I would hope/think they should treat Moore as the incumbent and unless Campbell is clearly better, he would hold on to the job.

1. Franchise Peppers and see what picks we could get in a trade (potentially w NE)

2. Sign Campbell on the cheap and let him compete with Moore in camp

3. Draft Pike and groom for the starting spot in 2 seasons

I don't dislike the Moore/Campbell competition, but I think that would require us letting go or trading Delhomme (I would think), and I don't see them letting Delhomme go IMO, which sucks. I think Moore should get the damn start and run with the team. Healthy OL, both RB and receiving core should lead to consistent and explosive play.

Also not opposed to McCoy or Pike being drafted but not with our first pick. Def needs to be addressed. DT and LB are a must in this draft, and couple solid FA would be very nice.

Na'il Diggs is in his 30's and was really never meant as a long term ROLB. He has though excelled in his role though and met our expectations. Thomas Davis seems to be injury prone.

Davis and Beason are arguably the top 2 linebacker tandem on the same team in the NFL. Dan Connor looks pretty solid as a backup but I really don't think LB is a pressing need regardless of Diggs' age. People might be concerned with Davis' contract being about to run out in another year, but unless people are FAs in this offseason most teams don't give a fuck cause they don't know anything until after the CBA

I am up in the air about Campbell, but look at the FACTS

/sarcastic David Cross voice

When Campbell was at Auburn, with a very solid defense and two great running backs, he was a great game manager. He didn't throw many picks, he didn't mind handing the ball off half the time or more, and he was a good leader. I said the same shit in the Redskins thread. The Panthers have a solid defense. The Panthers have two great running backs. I think, while he's not Peyton Manning, he could be a good fit here.

^^^ James Anderson look like he could play at times too.

Funny, I was thinking about glaring needs, and outside of QB obviously, we've got a pretty well rounded team. You could always use another good corner and DT needs some depth, but this a good year to take a shot on drafting some high risk/high reward type guys.

[Edited on January 6, 2010 at 11:32 PM. Reason : Campbell also had 4 OC in 4 years at Auburn and who knows how many in DC]

why do people want "game managers" as their qbs? what happens when the team gets down by a pair of touchdowns and you have to rely on the passing game?

it's boring to watch a 1-dimensional team.

fuck campbell, while it's up for debate whether he's david carr 2.0 or just mediocre the fact is we know he'll never be great

Moore is good enough. He's looked at least as good as any of the terrible options this offseason the two years he's played. And if he tanks, then the Panthers are in prime position to take a good QB in the 2011 draft.

probability says that team loses the game

moral of the story: have a defense good enough to not get down by 14

Are people seriously wanting the Panthers to sign Jason Campbell????

Wow. I thought it was a troll attempt but you guys really want that?

I wouldn't want Campbell to be the backup of my team....he can't throw a pass over 10 yards for shit.

I'm not sure if Campbell would be a good choice or not...But to be fair to the man, he has played in a new offensive system every year of his professional career. Maybe he's just not that good, but maybe he needs some stability. I don't think he'd be a terrible backup, for the right price.

I for one am not saying I want J. Cam to come in and START, but I will take him as a solid back up over Delhomme right now. I do not want to go into the season with stud offensive weapons and one injury away from the return of Delhomme. There are so many variable that Campbell has had to deal with which have been stated.

the problem is you can get down by 14 even with a good defense. a fluke play/turnover can easily get you there. even the best defense is going to get beaten sometimes

whatever he made this year + 20 percent

so with the pro bowl bonus, its like 18 + 4

No one's paying a DE 22 million, unless he's going to get you 22 sacks

we wore halloween costumes, and Deangelo & Jstew flew a choreographer in from LA to teach us the Thriller dance...

we then proceeded to shoot a Double Trouble music video...complete with the DT "Matrix" TD celebration at the end.

Apparently pepp is "awaiting" an offer from the panthers...says he doesn't have the same "concerns" with the defense as at the end of last year.

looks like he might sign a long term contract afterall...although I have no idea how the uncertainty of the 2011 season will affect this.

Don't sign Campbell. That makes the situation worse. He is not an NFL caliber QB. Matt Moore has talent and ability why not let him run shit. Draft Pike, Tebow, or Snead later in the draft and let them learn and battle with Moore.

If the Panthers roll out with Delhomme next year I will not be a fan anymore....even if they aren't my favorite team now they still ranked high.

For someone who thinks Campbell is garbage, it's interesting that you think we should draft Tebow.

^^ 1) Free agency is before the draft so you would forfeit any shot of a getting a QB already in the league with any talent to take a shot on QB that might not even be there when we get to pick. Not very realistic.

2) The panthers don't take QB's early. Even if they did, we would still have to bring in a FA because Fox would not be keen on letting the rook play right out of the gate and someone has to compete with Moore.

^ good point
