ThinkPad and MacBook had a baby?As long as build quality stays the same I really like the design updates. I'd take this over an IdeaPad.http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/na/LenovoPortal/en_US/special-offers.workflow:ShowPromo?LandingPage=/All/US/Landing_pages/ThinkPad_notebooks/2010/Edge&ipromoID=hpi00585&Engadget review.http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/03/lenovo-thinkpad-edge-13-review/[Edited on January 4, 2010 at 3:36 PM. As I said, as long as its built like a Think, its a definite improvement and updates the look. With the price point coming down also it will attract a lot of people who want the reliability and toughness that the Think is known for, but also care about how their computer looks. I'm not saying it will convert the diehard Think lovers, but it will attract more buyers who would get a Think because of reputation and performance, but instead opt for an Idea because of price and/or aesthetics. I say drop a bunch if not all of the Idea line and just expand the Edge into its own sub-brand of Think to replace it.[Edited on January 4, 2010 at 5:55 PM. Reason : .]

I'm pretty sure that most ThinkPad users aren't concerned with running games on them. These are still marketed for business users, they're just trying to appeal more to small business. What sucks is when you opt for the Intel chip, the price goes up considerably compared to the AMD chip.

^Good point. Thinkpad is known for their build quality and being business friendly. $550 isn't bad for a Thinkpad.
1/4/2010 6:21:42 PM
their build quality hasn't been going up lately, though. and this looks to be more of the same to me.

Thinkpads have been shit ever since the mergerwouldn't fuck one with a borrowed or stolen dick

i, too, have a x61t.. and it hasn't given me any trouble... but the horror stories out there are ridiculous and kiljadn is very correct. they aren't what they used to be[Edited on January 4, 2010 at 7:04 PM. Reason : asdf]

another x61t lover here. This thing has been through hell and still works like the day it was first turned on.All my personal experiences with Lenovo still point to them making pretty damn rugged business laptops.

i dropped mine and busted the clip out of it but i can hardly blame that on lenovo. (the return box is in the closet, i havent been able to get rid of it for 4 days yet though)also the power brick broke and i needed my laptop for a presentation at work. i called them on a thursday at 4:00 pm to let them know about my presentation on sat and on friday a new power adapter was waiting for me when i got home.

I should really just make a Lenovo thread, but this will do for now.http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/01/06/hands-on-and-video-lenovos-lephone/Video is long but is still pretty good at showing the phone. Not sure if I like the name...Lephone. Sounds too frenchy. Being that Lenovo acquired Lenovo Mobile I could definitely see this making it to the US eventually.

thinkpad build quality has been garbage ever since they went lenovo. The last round of thinkpads we bought all died in a year and we said fuck it and switched to hp.
1/7/2010 4:09:14 PM
^ this. Minus the switching to HP part.
1/7/2010 4:10:46 PM
i have an 8510p and its been pretty good to me. The newer hp stuff looks gay as hell though. I dont know why they changed it.
1/7/2010 4:13:58 PM
actually the new dells look fucking awesome, but they did some retarded shit like a tiny ass garbage trackpad and speakers next to keyboard.

http://video.forbes.com/fvn/tech/lenovos-hybrid-pcNote: these are early demo units only. Performance is rough in that vid. Will be fixed by June.[Edited on January 12, 2010 at 10:54 AM. Reason : ]

If my thinkpad didnt run windows with a shitty (huge blown up) IT build, I think I would like it alot more.Yes, its a beast, but since its constantly having performance issues, I will opt for a macbook pro with my next refresh, in a few years ^ that looks pretty slick ... If I was to buy a slate-like product, that lenovo unit might do it for me.[Edited on January 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Reason : .]

^ Custom Factory Reformat, de-select all the items on the list it gives you. Wait one hour. Clean Windows image. Screaming performance. Profit.

I never understood the hype behind IBM laptops. All the thinkpads i've ever come in contact with were always the biggest pieces of shit. This opinion dates back to high school.I did love my IBM Aptiva desktop though from the early 90's
