Has anyone ever been in the position where their landlord is trying to dump his/her property and requests that you be available for showing it?Is there any etiquette regarding cleanliness/appearance? I mean it's not like a multi million dollar home, it's fucking rental property, but I feel almost embarrassed when these fools call up directly after a party/gathering and none of my roommates feel like cleaning. Could the landlord at some point get pissed off and threaten eviction? (I doubt that would ever happen we're pretty much perfect tenants.)Drunken roommate got in a fight with a wall last week, so now there's random posters and such in the hallway. I'm sure the real estate agent is probably an active FML member before/during/after this particular showing.

It seems kind of stupid to be trying to sell your rental property when you have tenants currently living in it, just based on what I've seen rentals looking like with tenants in it

I toured a rental once where the tenant had left an unflushed log in the toilet.

Unless this is addressed in your lease it is up to debate between you and the landlord. If the showing agent is smart they will warn clients before showing a rental prop that it is tenant occupied and that tenants generally do not accommodate showings the way owners do. I once toured a listed rental on the other side of Hunters Creek that had about 3 dozen adult magazines strewn all over the floor of one of the rooms.

How this goes:You- Do nothing. You live there. Not your problem other than expect to maybe not get the lease renewed.Landlord-Has to give you notice of visits same as inspections, maintenance, etc. He wants the place cleaned, he can do it. This is really all on the landlord. Ok feel bad about it being not clean but honestly, if they want the place clean, let them do it. I knew a guy that had this done, got free cleaning of the whole place by a maid service while they were trying to sell it. (Disclamer, this wasnt a college rental nor in Raleigh).

I had a landlord do this, and he had the nerve to tell me I "shouldn't go out unless my room is clean". I basically told him to fuck himself. I had issues with strangers in my room anyway, and would leave it locked with the door shut (as per lease, no one was allowed to go in) if I knew they were doing a tour.

Yeah, because of our schedules, they usually show the property without anyone home. Our lease was up in August and we've just been paying month to month. I pretty much banked on hiring a maid service at some point and splitting it with my roommates. Need to have a yard crew too. Real estate agents give me like 24 hours notice. They canceled this morning and asked if they could show it same time on Tuesday, I was like yeah I don't give a fuck but we're going on vacation wednesday.I also flipped out on them one saturday morning when I was hungover and they called at 8:30 am. I left a note that said "Excuse the mess, we're all either coming off of or preparing to go on vacation"
