I'm having a new years eve party and enclosing part of my carport kind of like they do with restaurant patios. I'm having a couple fires outside but wanted to somehow heat the carport too. Has anyone had experience with outdoor electric heaters. I know they're quite expensive. Can these be rented anywhere? Thanks!

you can rent the big outdoor heaters like they have at bars from most rental places

I thought they were propane, not electric

^ The free standing ones outside are propane, but if you have an enclosed space like they do at restaurants you have to have electric or you would have some very unhappy customers.

get one of in this style. they burn kerosene and have a blower. they work great.

again i don't really think you're supposed to use a propane heater in an enclosed space.

they will produce some CO, but i doubt he's gonna have his carport sealed up airtight and he should be fine.my dad used one in our shop for years. we'd just crack a window or two and never had any problems.[Edited on December 25, 2009 at 12:05 AM. Reason : how are you gonna enclose the carport?]

I have some thick industrial drop cloth i used for a slip-n-slide a while back. It's almost as thick as what they use at restaurants. Don't know how well it will keep the heat in but i already have it. Open to suggestions.[Edited on December 25, 2009 at 12:11 AM. Reason : ,]

i'd go with that and a kerosene heater like i suggested above.[Edited on December 25, 2009 at 12:13 AM. Reason : i used my grandaddy's yesterday in my mom's shop while i worked on my truck]
