There are just a few days left. How was it for you?

2008 thread:
/message_topic.aspx?topic=552174

I am going to give this year a 6/10. There have been some ups and downs but nothing very significant I think it ended up more positive than negative. The trend seems to be upward, so here's to '10.

my 2008

Quote :
" my wife gave birth to our first child

lost 2 jobs and about $10k in backpay

all in all, it was a pretty excellent year"

my 2009

spent the first 3 months of the year trying to breathe life into a company, mostly without pay. ended up leaving and it went bankrupt the next week. all in all, lost about 6 months of pay and almost lost my house

spent the next 2 months looking for a job. finally got one and have been pretty happy here

family is all healthy and there's a lot to look forward to in 2010

Not too bad. My wife had surgery in January and I had surgery in August, no raises (again) so financially it was a bad year. Looking back I concede that it could have been much worse.

A. Nothing to complain about here. Still in college, got to travel during the summer, fairly healthy family, friends, and a great gf. It would be an A+ if I didn't have that 86 in a 65 speeding ticket or the wreck a few weeks ago (sideswiped a truck that made a left turn from the right lane; his failure-to-yield).

I had some ups and downs like everyone else, and some stuff I've been unhappy about for awhile still bother me. Oh well, maybe I'll get motivated in 2010

LOL. Both of those things fizzled out in January of 2009.

2009 has been a pretty decent year for me though. No love interest but that really wasn't what i was looking for. Had a good summer, spent a lot of time at the beach and lake. Didn't really take a big vacation, but I hope to in 2010.

Overall 2009 was a 7/10

A+ for love: Got out of a bad relationship. Enjoyed my freedom.
A+ for friends: Went on 3 vacations (San Diego/LA, Vegas and Austin) with my closest friends
A+ for job: Didn't lose it. Got a raise. Got awards. Still look forward to going to work every day.
C for family: Awesome bro and sis-in-law. Parents are a basket case. Lots of ill family members.

I have no complaints. Obviously, there's always room to grow. I'm looking forward to 2010. Trips to Cancun and the Bahamas in the near future.

heh...let's just do this over.

looking at my 2008 post, I apparently am a half full kinda gal cause I said it wasn't that bad. Yet all year, I've been talking about how much '08 sucked

'09 has been 9/10 still. Got married, babies born...yet lost job, learned a lot about relationships, and my husband lost both his grandfathers in a short amount of time.

2009 was really fucking awesome! (9/10)

I accomplished a lot of my longer-term goals this year:

1)trained/competed in triathlons and 5Ks
2)got the dog I always wanted (Weimaraner mix)
3) decided to go back to nursing school and have got As in all my pre-reqs for it thus far
4) bought the touring bike I always wanted/finally happy with my bike mechanic skillz
5) published my first scientific paper
6) started horseback riding again and re-habbed an old show horse into a trail horse
7) did some serious house projects- built gardens and now a chicken coop
8) I finally got a marching bass drum and have been playing it in various music projects
9) continued paying off student loans from degree #1

things that sucked:
1) my car got totaled in 2 hit and runs last week in front of my house. But I'm getting insurance money for it because they caught the driver responsible for the first.

2) My close friends were in Africa, and I miss them. Also, another good friend had to give up biking for most of the year to take care of his father, and had hip surgery.

9/10

This year I got married, got into grad school in Public Administration, organized a very successful community pet food drive during a recession, finished a three year run at my first full time job, did some traveling, worked on a winning mayoral campaign as the volunteer coordinator which was a step up for me from just doing campaign internships to having a real position/responsibilities, and I have just finished my first semester in grad school with straight A's (so far... still waiting on a few grades to post, but I suspect I did well).

Pretty shitty year on its own but it's got me looking forward to the future for once... such things as:

--Getting an actual apartment in Raleigh
--Possibly figuring out what I actually want to do with the rest of my life
--Finally fixing my sleeping disorder (well, not so much "fixing" as "getting pills which I can keep taking every night")
--Establishing long-term life goals (as opposed to my previous plan, which was to drift semi-aimlessly until I found a niche)

2009 was a rebuilding year. Started off horrendous and steadily improved near autumn. My October was atrocious but rebounded in November and is looking to be pretty kick ass going into next year.

Money: Getting tight, but A-
Career: Compared to previous years, B-
Sex: When it happened it was an A but it was way too infrequent so, D
Love: Taking the whole year into account and not just these last few weeks, F

Highlights: Saw Nashville a few times, started growing plants/composting, quit WoW

Money: B - im' not hurting, but took a 5% paycut at the first of the year. also bought a house and have been paying rent/mortgage/making repairs simultaneously until the lease runs out. been barely breaking even each month for a while. luckily the mortgage is my only debt.
Career: B - feel like a round peg in a square hole, but survived two layoffs.
Sex: F - non existant
Love: D - chased this girl for a while, but ended up going no where. whatever.

-Moved twice. I miss Raleigh. I'm grateful to be out of Jersey. NOVA is OK.
-Got married. (nothing much changes after being together for 7 years).
-Honeymoon in Aruba, first vacation in a long time
-Spent the last 10 months in software testing, after thinking I was getting into development in the first place. I wonder if I'll be saying the same thing after 2010....
-I am really out of shape now.

in 2008 I bought a house, was in two weddings, and got married myself.
in 2009 my house was foreclosed on, one of my buddies has gotten separated, and my wife cheated on me.

nah not really but it would have made a great country song. I've had a fairly uneventful, but happy year

It was pretty shitty for the most part. Only good thing has been making a lot of awesome new friends.

My last 3 NYEs have been terrible, which I think foreshadowed the rest of the year.

That is NOT happening again this year.

Career: A -- I found a solid full-time job within two months of graduating and it's something that'll get me a lot of experience in medical administration, if I don't stay with the practice for very long.

Money: A -- I'm making more than I ever had (not saying much, but still...), and I'm saving a lot by living with my parents for a little while. I'm paying down my college loans in big amounts, so that's good.

Love: F -- My gf of almost 1.5yrs broke up with me on New Year's Day, a complete surprise. That sucked for most of the semester. I also fucked up with a different friend.

Sex: B -- Opportunities presented themselves, nothing to complain about.

Overall, the whole graduating thing and getting a great 8-5 job with benefits and weekends off makes 2009 an A.

I overall had a good year.

-My business has flourished this year and my clientele has increased by 300% since I took it over in 2008.

-Other than a few minor colds/bumps/bruises, my kids, husband and I have enjoyed good health all year.

-Maintained my 4.0 GPA, despite taking some pretty difficult classes.

-My husband and I have managed to keep touch with family more this year than ever, especially within the second half of this year.

Only a few negative things that I remember being important, with most of those being voided out by equal positive things:

-A very close family friend of mine died. I took that pretty hard, but am keeping in touch with her husband, which helps a lot.

-My sweet, beautiful kitty died in a tragic accident. Though no pet could possibly take her place, we adopted another kitten (mostly because our other cat was depressed with no one to play with) and he has turned out to be a wonderful companion and is so patient with my 3 year old.

-I lost the best friend I had ever had up to that point in my life over a stupid argument that made no sense. However, since this has happened, I realized she really wasn't a true friend and have found that I have made many more friends since getting rid of her. I have also found a new friend who is far better to me than my old friend and who has taken the place of my old friend.

2009 has been a pretty good year:

Money: B+ got a promotion in February which resulted in a good pay increase. got a raise in November that was ok but i'll take it in a recession any day.
Career: A+ got my promotion; company started travelling me a lot; been there over 2 years now and couldn't be happier
Sex: A+ (only because my bf would kill me if i said anything less )
Love: A+ dated a psycho earlier this year but i got rid of him and ended up stumbling on someone who is pretty awesome.

Money: A- (first full year as a Captain, was combat deployed for the first few months of the year...put away a good bit of money. Made some good stock trades. Only spent a couple thousand with my lawyer. Still paying >$1000/month in child support, but at least my ex hasn't sued me again for even more in light of my promotion. Bought my first house--got it as a new construction foreclosure, purchased for thousands below tax value. Have a sports car, big pickup truck, classic pickup truck that I'm restoring, motorcycle, and jet ski...but none of them are super expensive--plenty of people have more money tied up in a new Accord or whatever. Have no debt other than my mortgage...but still a long way to go before I'm rolling in the millions of bucks.

Career: B (progressing well, getting pretty decent fitness reports, though not stellar. I like certain things about my job, and don't like others. I like some people I work with...others, not so much. Looks like I'm gonna be taking over being in charge of the engine shop at the squadron, which I'm looking forward to.)

Sex: C- (first few months of '09 were spent in Iraq, which has less sex than the champagne room. The rest of the year hasn't been celibate or anything, but it's certainly been nothing to write home about. Part of that was due to being out in Yuma, AZ working 6 days/week for 2 months...part of that is because I've finally been able to start enforcing my visitation with my daughter, and I don't bring any women around (or have time/opportunity to pursue any dating or anything else) when she's around. I guess I've done OK, all things considered, but as a bottom line business...ehhh.

Friends: C- (Everyone is married, boring, or lives hours away...or a combination of the above. All my rowdy friends have settled down.)

Love: F. F-, if I can award that grade. I've yet to ever get above about a "D" in this subject to begin with, and this year was back to solid "F" territory. I don't know what the reason is for my inability thus far to ever have a girlfriend I'm even remotely happy with. Shit, I have a hard enough time having a girlfriend I'm not happy with. Fuck it, though...I'll either have what I want or just sleep with randoms until I die.

however, this year has been an exceptionally good year due to the fact that I've finally gotten visitation with my daughter...she's spent a pretty good deal of time with me up here in NC, finally...probably a total of 3 months out of the 7 months this year that I haven't been in Iraq or Yuma.

-Got married
-Lost a job
-Traveled to new places
-Got a new job, but it sucks worst than my previous one
-Stayed healthy
-Worst year in recent memory for being both a wolfpack football fan and a carolina hurricanes fan

I'm gonna say 85% for 2009. But for some reason, I feel really optimistic about 2010.
