E39..just sold mine for $4K. i looked for a long time and could not find a nicer car for the money. mine had 130K when i bought it..put 30K on it in 8 months and did absolutely nothing to it besides change the oil. would def recommend i'm going to assume that an accord or civic would go under the "suck" category [Edited on December 18, 2009 at 2:03 PM. 1990-1993 IntegraThey don't build them like that anymore I tell ya.
12/18/2009 2:11:31 PM
^That's a great car. Leaps and bounds better in build quality and ride over the first gen (though I love the 1st gens most of all)...and it can be had for cheap.

Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Town CarRoadmaster/Caprice/Custom Cruiser/FleetwoodYour gas mileage will suck, sure. And keep an eye out for issues with the air suspension (on the TC, some Vics/GMs have it out back, the Fleetwood might). But the engines are bulletproof, the technology is beyond proven, and it's as comfortable as a living room on wheels. Plus some of the GM offerings can be found with the LT1. 260 HP and some obnoxious amount of torque like 350 lb-ft.

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/1478038919.htmlBut I would ask him if he still has the lx sport wheels...wider, deeper, look better. The lx sport has leather buckets, center console (no column shift), more hp, and handling/performance upgrades that currently slip my mind.
12/19/2009 7:58:49 PM
Basically has the police-spec P71 suspension up front, possibly rear air springs though I'm not sure. The bucket seats are nice and comfy. I agree that the stock LX sport wheels look rather nice and should be put back on if he still has them. Sounds like a good price, though I'd have to think his reference NADA value is kind of inflated (I don't even know if my Marauder is worth that much and it's the same year, similar mileage, and a clear step above the CV sport).[Edited on December 20, 2009 at 2:32 AM. I'm looking for something under 7k, myself, don't want to make a new thread. I was looking at a ~2003 Passat but don't know anything about cars.
12/25/2009 10:11:36 PM
Do not buy a Volkswagen.
12/25/2009 10:14:03 PM
Any specific reason? My brother has had a 97 golf for 4 years and hasn't had to do any repairs. Also, what other brands should I avoid.[Edited on December 25, 2009 at 10:33 PM. Reason : :o]

Are they some what reliable? Ill be driving this car for the next 3-4 years.
12/26/2009 5:59:42 PM
i dunno..i bought mine with over 130K miles on it..sold it close to 170K and didn't have any troubles out of it. it was very well maintained by the previous owner though. cooling systems need to be replaced around 150K and wheel bearings tend to go out on them..other than that they're usually reliable
12/26/2009 6:38:57 PM
Awesome, well i'm going to keep looking.Anyone have anything to say about volvos? I hear they have a million mile club
12/27/2009 1:34:48 AM
I had 2, a '90 740 (totalled) and a '92 240 (sold in favor of something much worse, whoops)... they're wonderful if pricey to repair as needed. Cars of such vintage are at least cheap to come by now.
12/27/2009 1:40:45 AM
i, too, would like a cheap car that doesn't suck. i keep finding nice deals, but the next time i turn around they're gone had a couple nice 3 and 5 series disappear on me
12/27/2009 1:56:15 AM
So a 3/5 series is the way to go for a 4 door, $7k, and reliable car?The more I read about VW's, the more I feel.
12/27/2009 2:38:33 AM
Anything that's FWD makes me feel I think GSR's and MX3's are the only exceptions
12/27/2009 2:47:19 AM
i think i'm going wrx or outback xt here are my requirements and thus what makes it difficult 1- must be a manual transmission2- 200ish hp is the target3- 4 doors are a must (back seat doesn't need to be roomy but neither myself nor my girlfriend want to have to get out of the car to drop someone off somewhere.4- 4 wheel disk brakes... i'm not effing with drums again ever... 5- the better the gas mileage the better the possibility6- i don't want to be fixing something on the car all the time... 7- timing chain is preferred i know the subies have timing belts but they usually can be changed in-car and i'm not yanking the engine out every XX,000 miles.8- i'd prefer something 2000 or newer with less than 100,000 miles i really don't want to have something older than my jeep or with more miles than it. 4000-10000 is the price range
12/28/2009 11:45:14 PM
I'd say go for a '99 or '00 2.5RS, but I'm looking for too.
12/29/2009 12:03:40 AM
^As is everyone else on here
12/29/2009 12:11:58 AM
Nissan Maxima fits your requirements
12/29/2009 7:32:27 AM
based on those requirements I'd look for a first gen (in the US of course) WRX.
12/29/2009 8:26:30 AM
yeah either a bugeye or a legacy gt are my main choices... i've found a couple cheap saabarus but they're a million miles away.... i like legacy's but i hate that the turbo bolts directly to the intercooler... it really limits one's choices for either. and i think the early model wrxs had poo for transmissions so i'd love to find someone who did an sti tranny swap.
12/29/2009 9:31:46 PM
How common is it to find an older 2.5RS 2 door Impreza with the newer(relatively speaking) 2.0 WRX engine swapped in?
12/30/2009 9:17:31 AM
I've found more with boosted engines than n/a. A nice unmolested (cleanly modded or stock) 2.5RS is hard to find. And even then, the owners ask a bit too much for them, imo.Well, there is a pretty clean stock '01 2.5RS (red) FS in NY right now. He's asking $5500 cash. Not bad of a price I guess, especially considering what's new on it. I'd definitely check out the suspension components though and make sure they are still in good shape.http://www.rs25.com/forums/f171/t124129-ny-2001-impreza-rs25.htmlThis one here is generally what I keep finding though.http://www.rs25.com/forums/f171/t118926-wtt-ri-mint-2001-impreza-rs-coupe.htmlOut of the price range, but badass indeed.
