ok ahmet, I rolled my eyes a bit when you gave me a ride in your black m3 4 door on koseis, and when i later drove one I really liked it and felt bad for not being more impressed at the time, but that's a genuinely impressive ride you've put in your parking spot now. I'd love to walk out of my apartment and see that angle. That's probably the best angle on a 911, IMO. It shows what lines they really were able to bring in nearly unmolested from the 94 boxster concept. I wasn't a 996 fan when it initially launched, I thought it was a mockery of the classic 911 shape, but I can better appreciate it now, probably b/c I want a boxster so badly. :-D. Btw, I finally got all those car mags that I took off your hands out of a pile in the corner of my storage closet and somewhat integrated them into my filing system. I've only flipped through about half of 'em, but I'm sure I'll eventually get around to giving them their due.
12/14/2009 9:40:47 AM
btw, don't let the coupe roofline keep you in porsches that have the engine in the wrong spot. Caymans are still too expensive now, but I just found this cayman-look top for the boxster a little while ago... looks especially good on dark colored boxsters.http://www.zeintec.com/looks pretty frickin sweet, right? and I've found a few boxster S's in the mid to low teens lately...
12/14/2009 9:46:11 AM
I thought an e36 M3 with a few modifications was an impressive ride, but time moves on and though I still appreciate them, and think they're special, they're no longer "it" for me.Anyway, the coupe line, the engine in the wrong spot? Hardly, I love how the 911 drives and wants to wag it's tail around, I would never have it any other way... The performance envelope is ///M pressiv. :p

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzS7VVvDZEIAll messed up cause Stephen can't hold the phone on it's side...
12/14/2009 10:34:56 PM
i think the new model auto corrects phone orientation.
12/14/2009 10:53:56 PM
It was "correct", it was correct to the orientation that you had the phone in. For widescreen, turn to it's side, you know the way you would see it...
12/14/2009 11:02:08 PM
blackberries only take video in landscape, regardless of how you hold your phone. i dont know why the iphone would even allow video to be taken in portrait mode. silly apple.

variety is the spice of life!
12/15/2009 8:07:28 AM
interrupt Ahmet hate:Well the iPhone's aspect ratio is far wider, and the viewfinder would be nowhere near accurate b/w when you hold the phone up right or on it's side. /interrupt Ahmet hate.

there is no ahmet hate here, only love. <3

I can't wait till a 325hp Cayman S can be had for ~ $30k. You better believe you'll see me in one shortly thereafter
12/15/2009 3:07:45 PM
Is someone actually defending the boxster? lol
12/15/2009 3:13:27 PM
I'm a little over 6ft and the Cayman is too small
12/15/2009 3:16:00 PM
I don't know man, mid/front engined cars just don't move the way 911s do, I'm tellin' ya.In other news, I'm having two keys programmed, and laser cut for das 911 for less than $60 at the dealer. Pretty dang reasonable. Also getting remote key fobs for very reasonable prices, I'm rather impressed...
12/15/2009 3:33:09 PM
i too am ///mpressed
12/15/2009 4:12:28 PM
^^^I've test drove 3 different Caymans thus far (two of them S's) and while I wish for another inch of seat travel, in my opinion it's good enough. And FTR I am 6'2". Honestly if you're looking for a sub 3,000lb sports car you're not gonna find something with any more leg room.^^well done!

you will probably be able to find a cayman s in that price range in a year. i'll either be in that or a 996 turbo. i like the evora quite a bit actually, but that curve has a couple of years to go.
12/15/2009 5:14:21 PM
^An earlier model Cayman S no doubt, however notice I said the 325hp model (which I meant to say 320hp, my mistake). The 2006-2008 model has 295hp and the 2009+ models 320hp from the direct injection engine. Plus IMO the front bumper looks way better on the 2009 and up models. The Evora is nice, but $15-20k more than a Cayman S...that outperforms it. Sure it has a backseat, but let's be real that seat serves very little purpose.
12/15/2009 10:29:28 PM
But what if that seat is LEATHER....
12/16/2009 1:08:23 AM
12/16/2009 1:32:36 AM
^ Or a pair of size 0 models... But no. The 2009 Cayman S will have to wait until about 2014 before they'll be <$30k.
12/16/2009 8:20:45 AM
Nah, once the next gen comes out in a few years they will drop. I say 2012 is more likely.
12/16/2009 9:59:27 AM
The newest non appliance car I've owned was I think 3 or 4 years old. I can't really imagine going newer. Demonstrated w/the 996 quite nicely, most of them had a sticker of over $80k (my last one was around $88k, I believe this car was around $86) and you can grab an early 996 in the low to mid $20s for a very good example now. People argue that b/c of their reputation for possible engine failure, they've taken a huge hit in resale, but if you compare historic data, even w/the economic climate now, they actually compare favorably to other Porsche models in depreciation as % value retained vs. age. Caymans/Boxsters, and other non 911 Porsches depreciate faster (and I say this is due to the rear engine dynamics, which again I am heavily biased towards, I LOVE it!), but they're still favorable compared to a Benz or Jag or the like within similar price brackets. As for the angle, I think this is another good one:
