Might be moving to the area next year at about this time. Anyone come from/ live there? Other than COLD and SNOW, how else would you describe the area?

Besides 9 cities, american metros are all cookie cutter with a few small variations of flavor.its just like dallas except instead of the cowboy feel its a northern/midwestish feel
12/10/2009 7:41:57 PM
^ that's stupid. If you have any legitimate questions, let me know... My sister's husband grew up there and I know a fair deal about the area.
12/10/2009 8:53:42 PM
if you think there differences between more than about 9 american cities are major then you seriously need to get out (the country) more.miaminycchicagolasfphillynodcvegasthe rest have some minor differences and obvious geographical differences but as far as life... almost exactly the same and 75% of the businesses are the same. Sure theres some local flavor and a few unique things about each city especially downtown but the majority of everything is the same. From highways to bars.[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 9:04 PM. I know rightBoston is pretty much the Seattle of the northeast

^^ You're incredibly wrong...And I've lived in three distinctly different areas of the United State, traveled extensively domestically and abroad (S. America and Europe though I've also been to Singapore). And of course cities in Europe will be different throughout different countries. They have distinctly different cultures! However, the difference between cities like Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham for instance are not very much different than different cities throughout United States regions.[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 9:10 PM. That's exactly how it is in most countries, aside from 5-10 major cities.Sure the major historical cities will be distinctly different but outside of the major cities in the respective countries they have similar cultures and habits of living. And seriously? You brought out the "you need to travel more" card simply because I disagree with you?[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 9:25 PM. Reason : x]

What part of "don't feed the troll" do you dimwits have trouble understanding?
12/10/2009 9:40:14 PM
^ I was just about to post that And somehow I knew Miami would be the first thing on that list.
12/10/2009 9:44:48 PM
I said if you think there are major differences betwen the rest of the cities, then you need to get out more because its obviously relative. If all you know are those cities then they will all be unique to you while if you, like me only started visiting the cities not on that list in the last 6 or 7 years then you will see the similarity, just like a foreign tourist would.^somehow I knew you would be right in here behind me[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 9:47 PM. Only 9 cities in the country are worth living inRaleighCharlotteWinstonWilmingtonCaryHickoryGreensboroFayettevilleDurhamEvery other city is generic.Especially Miami, it's the most generic of all. It's like one big Old Navy.

For the most part, I like Minnea/St Paul. I was up there for work training for 3 months total last year. It's pretty bleak in the winter and snows every other day, which I like for the most part. The summer weather is perfect to hang around outside - highs in the mid 80s. Downtown has a pretty sweet layout. Check out the warehouse district for drinking, especially an Irish pub called The Local; they pour the most Jameson in the world. Get a Big Ginger - two shots Jameson and Ginger Ale for $6.
