My wife bought a car in 2007 from a big name local new car dealer (The car is a 2004 Toyota Solara). We payed off the lien last month, and received a lien release notice (notarized and all that), but the finance company says they never got the title from NC, and that the dealer likely did not complete the title application process.I've called the dealer, and they are researching what happened. I know in a few instances dealers have been caught selling cars that they didn't have legal ownership of (title in hand). Seeing as this isn't a shady, fly by night organization I doubt their intent was fraudulent.Anyone had any experience with this situation? In the event the dealer finds they never had title, will I have to bring suit to get results, or will they offer to make the situation right?

I don't know if you keep up with the news much and don't know if your dealership was included but thought this is good to know if you didn't already.http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/6568727/

It just stinks that you're going to have to pay for the duplicate. They should have resolved this themselves a long time ago.

Problem somewhat resolvedTurns out, the DMV sent the title to the bank, but the title came back to the DMV, and they just held it all these years. The title person at the dealership (which I will now name: Leith Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Cary) was extremely helpful, and got the DMV to send the title to her, because they won't send it to me since it shows a lien. The title person at the dealer will then mail it to me.

^ How so? They supposedly sent it to the bank and it was returned to them. Not a whole lot else they can do.

Neil Ward Boulevard Auto Sales...I think that guy is back in prison, now. They had all the cars on the lot taken one evening. The issue with that was all the salesman operated independently, each having access to their own titles. I think just the namesake was the issue. On another note, all used car dealers are shady as hell.
